Topics I've Started

Back, Chest, Butt, Groin Acne

07 February 2013 - 03:23 PM

Hey guys, a couple quick questions:

Chest:

I had surge of terrible, disgustingly pus-filled acne in the center of my chest for about a month over the summer, and it scarred a lot. I very infrequently get new zits there, and the redness/scarring has faded from when it was active, but it's still pretty bad. Is this ever going to heal without dermabrasion/lasers/something very expensive? http://imgur.com/TvE2g4C I take vitamin e and serrapeptase orally and apply this vitamin C+E+ferulic acid. Anything else I should be doing?

Back:

Also, I've had active acne on both shoulders for years (and scars at this point), but it's been clearing up somewhat lately. However, I'm just starting to get slightly different acne (I don't think there's any pus in them) in the middle of my back where I've never gotten it before. That central back area also started getting weirdly numb/itchy sometimes. Any idea on the cause of this vs the acne I've always had? http://imgur.com/uRMLv4T

Butt:

Every once in a while I'll get these inflamed little painful butt bmps (never more than 1-2 at a time, they last a while though) that don't seem to have pus in them, but they hurt if I sit on them wrong. They're quite small and not a big deal at all but I figure I should mention it

Groin:

On both the far left and far right side of my scrotum/inner thigh (right on the cusp) there are 2-3 very painful (when touched/squeezed), large inflamed cysts. There was a little pus in at least one of them that I squeezed out like over a month ago, but now the outer skin seems to have healed but I can still feel them (to a lesser extent) underneath. I know for a fact that these are not STD-related.

It may have something to do with the medications I'm taking, listed here: http://www.acne.org/...oresblackheads/

Specifically, I had symptoms of yeast/candida overgrowth after a round on antibiotics so I suppose it's possible that some of these are related to that.

Any help is appreciated! I'll be glad to give you more info if you need it. Thank you!

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

My Cystic/nodular Acne Has Subsided To Loads Of Clogged Pores/blackheads

07 February 2013 - 02:23 PM

TL;DR: For years I got giant inflamed cysts/nodules/pustules/papules that took forever to heal, in the past week or two that has turned into clogged pores/blackheads everywhere (body too). Definitely an improvement but weird nonetheless. I've been taking a lot of supplements and prescriptions that probably affected this. What should I be doing to fix this?

Hey guys, I'm 18 and have been dealing with large, highly inflamed acne on my face, chest and shoulders for years now with varying success in clearing it (I was very clear for a couple months last spring but it's come back).

I haven't had any major new breakouts lately, but my pores have become huge and clogged on both my face and my body in places where I've never had acne.

I prefer these blackhead things to the giant inflamed monstrosities, so I'm not too worried but want to clear them up.

I don't have any before pictures, but trust me, the largest red mark you see in the pictures above is smaller than the average active zit I was getting just recently.

(update: I found some old before pictures in this thread I started in 2010 - http://www.acne.org/...ing-to-improve/)
_____

Things I'm taking:

First of all, I was late diagnosed with ADHD and have been on Adderall for about 5 weeks, which I've heard can have skin effects. The acne is from way before then though.

I've been on retin-A for about 2.5 months (and Aczone in the morning, but I don't use it much), and I was on doxycycline for about 2 months but stopped using it about 1-2 weeks ago because it was causing me other health issues and antibiotics seem like a terrible solution for acne anyway.

I'm also on a bunch of different supplements:

For over a year: source naturals multivitamin, Zinc, b5 megadose (been weening myself off of it from 10g/day, it was one thing that helped clear me back last year so I'm hesitant to stop it completely)

For a few months: chlorophyll, green tea extract, serrapeptase (for inflammation)

For the past few weeks: The antibiotics also gave me candida overgrowth symptoms, so I've been taking garlic extract (allicin), boron, probiotics, and an anti-candida enzyme. The candida symptoms have been declining. I also started taking saw palmetto, turmeric, and ginger, and vitamin k/k2. My skin has looked much healthier recently (besides these pores) and things have been healing faster. Even my fingernails, which are usually all ripped and disgusting, have been perfect lately, which I attribute to the vitamin K. I also have been taking 500mg of maca daily for the past week or so for energy. Maca has a hormonal balancing effect, but 500mg is probably too low of a dose for that to effect me. I've taken maca before and it didn't help my acne.

Can any of these supplements be interacting in a weird way, and should I stop any of them? I plan on weening myself from pretty much all of them soon enough.

Also's:

-I also just recently starting regularly using a moisturizer.
-I have some things that I think may be helpful to my current situation: tea tree oil, emu oil + jojoba oil, a 20% salicylic acid peel, and a bottle of vitamin C+E+Ferulic acid and I have no problem buying anything else anyone may think is helpful
-I don't exfoliate or use any bp/sa because my skin was/is very sensitive. It's improving on that front though so I should probably start exfoliating, yes?

Any tips/info are highly appreciated, thank you!

So.. is my skin ever going to improve?

05 August 2010 - 03:59 PM

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I'm a 16 year old guy and I've had acne for about 2 years. I had been using over the counter stuff but a few months ago my acne decided to get pretty bad so I went to a dermatologist. She prescribed Differin 0.3 and Solodyn 90mg. I don't think there was much of an initial breakout and my skin started getting better.

I went in for a checkup a month or so later and the doc decided that it was 50% clear (I think it was more like 70%) and that I should switch to Tazorac 0.1%. Assuming the doctor knew best, I went onto Taz and my skin's been getting progressively worse for the past month or 5 weeks or so. I assumed it was an IB but it's not showing signs of getting better. It just peels a lot and what used to be clumpings of small red dots formed into a giant nasty thing on my left cheek, and something similar on the right cheek. There are red marks everywhere, and everything seems to be "healing" extremely slowly. I admit it, I pick at my face more than I should but I'm trying to stop.

It's just depressing. I don't want to do anything other than just sit inside and wait for my stupid acne to go away. Can I get some opinions from everyone? Should I stay on taz, use taz and differin, stop solodyn, change cleansers, what? is this considered an "initial breakout" or am I SOL?

Thanks for your help.

My regimen:

morning: clean & clear 5% BP exfoliating scrub, aveeno 2% salicylic acid exfoliating scrub, solodyn pill, cetaphil cleanser, moisturizer (sometimes). Every once in a while I dab on some left over Differin.

night: clean & clear 5% BP exfoliating scrub, aveeno 2% salicylic acid exfoliating scrub, cetaphil cleanser, moisturizer (sometimes), tazorac
