OK, after doing loads of research, I've decided to try Spiro. I've found some limited reports from males regarding use of the drug on this site and a couple of others, but I think it might be useful for me to document my experiences for the benefit of "man"kind. I'm going to keep graphic details to a minimum, but because Spiro and men can produce some disturbing side effects, I'm going to describe any effects I experience.
About me:
- 37-year old male
- moderate acne, many clogged pores, frequent white heads and inflamed pimples
- might suffer from mild rosacea as well
- relatively oily skin
- had acne since about 19
- have tried BP, AHA/BHA, Differin XP, Azelaic Acid, B5 in the past
My logic in choosing Spiro is simple despite the potential scary side-effects for men. If I can get my hormones in balance, clear skin will hopefully follow. My goal is to find the lowest effective dose so that I can avoid the unpleasant side effects. I just ended a long-term relationship, so I'm cool with a reduced libido. I'm actually curious to experience life without sex on the brain all the time. Don't get me wrong, I like sex, but I don't think I'll mind reducing my desire somewhat. Maybe I'll be able to focus my energy on other things like George did in that classic Seinfeld episode.
I started treatment on 2/7. I've been at 50mg/day this entire week and plan to go up to 75mb starting on 2/14.
As of today, I haven't experienced any side effects. I have about 12-15 active pimples on my face right now. Sebum production is unchanged.
