HARD PUS

13 posts in this topic

You know when you squeeze a spot, or it explodes by itself, a whiteish pus comes out doesn't it?

Well when I sqeeze mine, or when they come to a head naturally, hard whiteish yellowish stuff comes out in one big piece. Not a liquid pus like I would normally associate with a spot. Its like sometimes I will be scratching a part of my face, and I'l feel summat peel off my face, like a scab. When I take a look in the mirror, there is a big empty pore where the hard stuff was festering away. And most of my spots are like that. And when the stuff comes out I'm left with a mini crater in my face.

What is this? Why is it happening? How do I stop it? :|

lol....

I think that happens when the pimple is very advanced, the puss starts to harden and turns into a scablike part ready to fall off.

This topic is really gross, but I have to admit that I've experienced what you're talking about, as well. I think it means that the pus inside has been around for so long that it has hardened. In my experience, this is a good thing, as when you pop it, you can be sure you're getting ALL of the pus at once instead of waiting around for more to come to the surface. A zit like this usually goes away really quickly after popping, in my experience.

am:

Proactiv gentle cleanser

Doxycycline 100 mg (week 19)

Spironolactone 50 mg (week 3)

pm:

Proactiv gentle cleanser

Tazorac .05% (week 16)

Yasmin BCP (week 19 of straight active pills)

I'm pleased to announce that I reached my previous goal:

my skin was clear and beautiful on my wedding day,

July 1, 2006.

Now: no more steroids or chemical peels.

I have to find a long-term solution for clear skin.

If Spiro doesn't work, I'll be starting Accutane in August.

Yeah, i find that if it is hard pus, once it is out, thats it, the spot heals up. And it feels like I've really deep cleansed the pore. It takes so long for them to go hard though, mine never come to a head when the pus is runny.

Ewwww, I'm amking myself feel sick now with all this talk of pus!!

I have mild acne, but I have had this happen to me four times in my life, twice on my back (where I never break out) and twice on my cheek-always in the same spot. It's almost like a little stone, it comes out solid and leave a huge whole in my face. I asked my derm and the guy had no clue what it was, I posted it on this site and no one had had a similar experience. glad to hear I'm not alone.

It's not pus coming out, the hard yellow stuff.

It's the core comedo, made up of dried sebum

(skin oil). That's why it has a greasy feel if you

were to rub it between your fingers. When your

pores get clogged, it is what clogs them, if it can

build up for a while, it will get bigger and bigger.

Yup. There can also be dead skin cells in there as well. The bigger they are, the older.

Best way to dislodge these: topical retinoids and AHAs.

This is what i have lots of them,i am too scared to use retinol tho as ive read that you will have a massive breakout while using it.

Anyone know how to stop getting the clogged pores?

I am on the csr, which has stopped any nasty spots from forming, but have loads of clogged pores.

This happens to be a lot, and especially recently since I started my new treatment. The craters are annoying looking, but within an hour mine have like...closed up. Do yours close up fast?

When I was doing lasers I had a MONSTROUS pustule the size of Montana and I guess the lady just accidently scraped it off because when I looked in the mirror right after I had a huge huge crater. I was embarrassed to walk home, but by the time I got home, the crater closed up.

That is not necessarily true. I think it depends largely on how prone you are to inflammatory acne.

My acne was primarily comedonal -- almost all clogged pores, with only a few inflamed breakouts caused by hormonal changes. It took 3-4 months for all the bumps to purge, so it didn't all happen at once ... and hardly any of them resulted in real pimples. Mostly it was microzits and hard comedoes pushing up to the surface. Aside from my PMS breakouts, I stopped having inflamed zits entirely ... and now I'm not even getting them during the PMS week.

I exfoliate regularly, and that may have helped. Also I am very careful about bacteria ... I am always changing my towels and pillowcases, and I rarely if ever use a washcloth on my face ... if I do, it's always a clean one.

Anyway ... another excellent product for preventing clogged pores is mandelic acid. I have posted about it recently and at length in the Blackheads, Mild/Moderate and OTC forums.

If I could make a suggestion. If finances allow you to spend some money on treatments, do go to a "professional pimple popper," aka facialist. But go to one who is located in your derm. office, not a salon. Yo want them to use products that are beneficial for the face. You will be suprised.

I have been going to one for 3 months ($75/visit), and my skin is 90% clear, no new pimples, old blemishes only. But also I have to say, yes its gross what her job is. BUT, when I used to pop my pimples, I used to have scaring after, and I used to have bad, borderline cysts. With her, she popped my last "stress" pimples I had, and ...no scaring whatsoever.

Think about it. She will know how to stop you from making scars out of your face, because i had that exact thing happen to me, and I dont have many, but there are a FEW LARGER pores...which is from me touching the pimples, myself.

Just a suggestion.
