What has worked for me: SEA SALT

I've been trying this for a couple days now, is it supposed to get worse before it gets better, or am I in trouble...

Charles-

I posted early on....it was a process for me, not an event....

When I started I was in the midst of a very bad breakout and during the first week I noticed some areas were improving, while others were just starting to come to the surface....it was during the second week I felt that I really had begun to see an overall improvement. I did not post until week eight as I have experienced similiar improvements, only to have them reverse after a week or two.

I think we all can tell when we have an allergic reaction to something.....it comes quickly and is very bad......if you feel like you are having an allergic reaction then STOP IMMEDIATELY.

If it is just more of the same.....meaning a bad breakout continuing....I would give it sometime....but watch it closely......stop exfoliating.....be gentle.

Once again, unless it is an allergic reaction, you can not come to a sound conclusion over a few days time....

My improvements came very fast, I saw a difference already after one day, while the second day I was sure it was better. Nevertheless, even if my skin keeps improving, I've had some breakouts as well. Acne has cycles and it is possible you started the sea salt solution during the beginning or peak of your acne cycle. Give it at least 2-3 weeks.

alright cool more updates :) wish i could start today but the salt store is closed on the weekends. i think i might head over to walgreens or walmart and pick up some sea salt from there for now and probably some nizoral.

edit: came back from the store with 60oz of sea salt for $3.50 and nizoral for $10. currently testing out my bathtub drain stopper plug thing...

on a funny note, the cute cashier girl asked what i was gonna do with that much sea salt and whats it for, i paused thinking "do i tell her its for a bath?" and just said "umm to cook?" then we both laughed.

did anyone ever find out if the sea salt corrodes bathtubs?

I know this sounds stupid but how do you soak your face? Do you just submerge you face under water for short periods of time?

Congrats on the clearing skin. I'm really looking foward to trying this and hoping that it works

I don't have acne on my face but I submerge myself and let just the nose out. I can even stay 30 minutes like that.

Observation:

Remaining occasional breakouts were focused on borders of hair......on face, back of neck, underarm, and inner thigh.....first thing came to mind is longtime assumption that I had some sort of folliculitis.

Next Step:

Researched the subject.....and found a medical paper on eMedicine.com (http://www.emedicine.com/DERM/topic338.htm) that said "Pityrosforum Folliculitis" is regularly misdiagnosed as acne......and is successfully treated with a chemical known as "Ketoconazole", the main ingredient in a dandruff shampoo called "Nizoral". Over-the-Counter is 1% strength and sold at Target, Walgreens, etc....it comes stronger with a prescription. Bought it and have been using as a shower gel.....letting it sit on my body for 5 minutes before washing off.

The Nizoral I have has 2% Ketoconazole

Do you really have to use 30 ounces?.. Nearly 4 cups? Would it work just as well with say one or two cups? Also, you take the bath everyday?

Salt is fine on tile, but not good for the piping, make sure to do a water rinse of your pipes afterwards!

As far as the 30 ounces go......I calculated it by how the water tasted.....I was trying to duplicate the salinity of ocean water.....I am sure you could go with less......

For the first couple weeks I took salt baths twice a day, then daily for a couple weeks, and now I am taking them once a day about every other day

Canada sells it over the counter in 2% strength......in the US it is 1%.

I'm pretty sure that Sea Salt won't corrode the bathtub. I was worred it might corrode the metal int he bath tub like in the sauna section.

I should ask either at Home Depo or on a forum. Think I will. I'll let yu know.

day 3, i dont want to jump into conclusions or give false hope to people, so i wont post results till im 100% sure there are any results at all, good or bad.

its not that expensive if you get it at the right place, so it depends on your area i guess

Well I found some today. Only three bucks in Canada. But it isn't that big of a container. Anyway, I think this was asked earlier in the thread, but I didn't see the answer. You put it in while the water is running right?

Yes, put it in while it is running.....as long as the water is hot it does not really matter, but I am sure it helps the dissolving process.

I'm a bit of afraid since I've read that due to osmosis your skin becomes more hydrated when bathing in salty water. Whenever I use a mosturizing cream (=hydrating) I get more acne. Although I have to admit that the ocean has got good influence on my body acne. Also the sun has very good effects in combination with sunscreen (so your body doesn't need to make your skin oilier as a reaction to the drying effect of the sun on your skin).

How does it work on chest acne? (because it is a bit different than back acne)

I wonder if the salt buildup will hurt the septic system? I have a fish aquarium that I sometimes put salt in and it has a lot of salt deposits on it. I was thinking that all that salt might buildup on the metal parts of the motor thing in the septic system. I know it would be expensive to replace. Does any one know if this might cause a problem later on down the road?

From what I gather, I think swimming in the beach is probably the best thing you could do. You are so lucky to live so close to a beach. I would go every chance I could if I were you. I just love swimming and the sun. I guess you can tell that I can't wait until summer.

Yea i would go every weekend (like i did last summer and surf...) but now with this curse (body acne) its kinda hard 2...

Only thing i could think 2 do is drive down there by my self and go swim/tan for like 2 hours... like go 2 a unpoppulated part of the beach lol. I know that sounds pathetic  but im sure some 1 can relate.

i feel kinda bad for u guys who say they love swimming at the beach because i could see it from my house  , only time i went was every other day last summer when we were body boarding and we all had those wet suit type shirts so it covered my body acne. plus we have some of the best beaches too in san diego, im like 5 min away on the freeway. but back to the topic...

as for messing up ur plumming, etc, look up "hard water" and "soft water." the sea salt im using happens to be for "water softening" for houses. unlike most of my friends, we have a water softener tank in our garage that u fill up with salt that softens the water, we dont use it anymore i believe cuz we used to fill it up with salt at least once a year, not anymore. so yeah, u could use the water softening salts like at a home depot or lowes(i never went there but they should have it) as long as it says 100% evaporated sea salt on it u should be okay. what i looked up since the salt was for the softening process is that it is better for ur pipes. but yeah, look this up.

Hi all. I have been doing this for about three weeks now and there is a definite improvement. I am not entirely sure if it is completely associated with using the bath salt, however it has certainly gotten better.

I bathe at night for about 30 minutes in not ungodly hot water, because frankly I like to do the bath because it is relaxing. That said, I use between 12 and 15 oz. of sea salt.

As reported earlier. The results are a process. My skin hasn't broken out as much since I started, and the existing breakouts got better.

Following my sea salt bath I take a brief shower using the neotrogena stuff mentioned earlier with SA. One thing I am mindful to do is exfoliate with a poof thing or whatever. I also let the SA sit on my skin for at lease a minute or so before rinsing off. Give it a try. Worst thing that can happen is you get to relax for 30 minutes. I watch TV while I soak.

Also, I make sure to wash my bed sheets weekly.
