I m having severe breakout on my upper back and mild breakout on my chest after 5 day using ACV topically and orally. The fading spots on my chest got irritated and a bit more red. Old spots are healing though. Im a bit despaired now. But i like to think ' thing gets worse before they get better so i ll stick with ACV for at least a month.

More breakout on my back. New zits are circled in red. Old zits are circled in green

Hi all,
Haven't been back here for a while since my acne cleared up and just wanted to recommend what I've been using. The tea tree oil/rice wine vinegar combo worked moderately well for me the first 3 weeks I used it, but after that my back acne stagnated in this annoying not awful but far from clear state. I was again ready to throw in the towel.

Enter Milk of Magnesia. My pharmacist heard about this at an "Alternatives to Accutane" discussion and suggested it to me. I highly recommend it!!!! I know this is a forum for vinegar, but if you're trying that I think you should at least give MoM a try first.

Here's why:

- cheap
- available at drug store or grocery (get the Original formula)
- doesn't bleach clothing
- absorbs excess oil all day (if you have face acne)
- smells nice, while vinegar smells kind of unpleasant
- soothes skin and reduces redness, whereas for me vinegar stung a bit and increased redness
- it worked a miracle for me and I've tried a lot of things - vinegar, BP, tea tree oil, oral medications, topical prescription meds... you name it. In fact, my doctor said we'd just about run out of things to try when I heard about MoM.

Hop over to the Milk of Magnesia thread if you want to give it a try.

i'm confused from your wording: are you drinking the Milk of magnesia or applying it to your acne areas like vinegar?

Wow.

My mother always used vinegar, and I always laughed at her convinced that it was bad for the skin.
Seems like I was wrong XD

I'll be going to the shop to buy rice vinegar and start as soon as possible with the treatment.
I'll post a pic of my shoulders and back at least once a week, so you guys can see the progress.

Wish me luck,

C.

Would Distilled White Vinegar work?
Morning (and Night):
Not much.

Supplements (kind of, i guess):
Nothing.

A healthy diet (vegetarian), lots of water, and exercise!

(Currently pregnant).

Thank you so much for your post. I have had bacne for many years and nothing worked. However, I started using the vinegar treatment and in 5 days it was gone! Thank you so much!

I used a different variation from what is posted here combining what I read on some other sites.

1.) I took baking soda mixing with water to make a paste and rubbed it onto the effected area.

2.) Applied apple cider vinegar undiluted to the baking soda region, this will foam slightly.

3.) Wait 5-10 minutes and take a shower.

I did this for 5 days once a day, and no new outbreaks, even with exercising, which previously caused a big problem.

I have reduce the treatment to once a week and remain outbreak free, it has been several months so I know it has worked.

Again, thank you so much for the vinegar solution, it worked so fast!!

will this work at night?

Hello,

I created this account just to share my results from using Apple Cider Vinegar + Tea Tree Oil over the last week and hopefully into the future.

History - I found this forum years ago but didn't find anything that helped me and was within my budget at the time. I've suffered from acne on my face, neck, shoulders, and back (upper and lower) since I was 14 (I'm now 25). At first I assumed I would grow out of it as my doctor suggested. I also stopped drinking pop, and was more consistent with showering and face washing. After a couple years of frustration, I finally asked my doctor if there was something he could prescribe. He tried a few different things, but none seemed to be helping and some made it worse. I've been experimenting with different things recently (diet, multivitamins, sleep cycle, working out, shower routine, stress management, etc.). However, I haven't been swimming in 11 years. When friends get together to play a pick-up game, I'm just praying I don't end up on the "skins" team and if I do, I make up some excuse about not feeling well. Obviously there's more I'm missing out on (aren't we all?), but perhaps most striking is what it does to a relationship. My face is relatively clear these days, though blackheads are still an issue around the nose area, but I simply can't imagine a woman being attracted to me considering what I'm dealing with on the back of my neck and back area. Forget intimacy, going to the beach, etc. Overall, I would say I'm in the moderate to severe category, depending on the day.

Regimen - I wanted to find something that was natural, safe, and effective. So after finding this thread on Apple Cider Vinegar, here's what I do.

Day
- Shower using organic bar soap($3.50) for general body cleaning.
- Wash face and other affected areas with Clearasil Free and Clear Oil Free Cleanser($3.00) (it's very gentle).
- Air dry as much as possible, towel dry the rest.

Night
- Shower using organic bar soap for general body cleaning.
- Wash face and other affected areas with Clearasil Free and Clear Oil Free Cleanser (it's very gentle).
- Air dry as much as possible, towel dry the rest.
- Pour 1 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar($2.50 per gallon) (it's reddish in color and may even say it's for food) into a glass.
- Using 100% Tea Tree Oil($8.00 for 4oz) (bought from Whole Foods) pour 5 drops into the cup of Apple Cider Vinegar.
- Add 3 Cups of very warm water to the Apple Cider Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil.
- Using regular cotton balls ($1.50 for 100), dip one in the ACV, TTO, and Water mix.
- Gently but thoroughly, rub the soaking cotton ball over an affected areas.
- Repeat with additional soaking cotton balls over each affected area. (be generous in your application, I use about 7 cotton balls each time)
- Air dry.

After the first day, I made the mixture with less water each following day so now I'm consistently using 1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar to 1 cup of very warm water and still 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Also, after the third day of use, I stopped showering in the morning as I felt it was drying my skin out too much and the smell of the Apple Cider Vinegar had faded anyway.

Results
- After my first application, everything does get pretty red, but there was no burning because I started off with a well diluted mixture.

- The first morning after using the mixture, I noticed that anything active was brought to a head, hard to tell if anything new had shown up though.

- After my second application, some of the more persistent spots came to a head again, but nothing new showed up for sure.

- After my third application, I'm pretty certain that all active spots had come to a head and were now on the retreat.

- After my fourth application, the larger, more cystic spots are shrinking, one or two new spots came to a head (much fewer than the usual 5 - 10 I would wake up with prior to this regimen).

- After my fifth application, I started to use this on the back of my neck (I waited in case my body reacted poorly to the mixture, didn't want to make the visible spots worse). My back has no new spots and some of the reddest ones have faded just a bit.

- After my sixth application, everything came to a head on my neck, 10 - 12 spots in all. My back and shoulders continue to be free of new spots, though existing red marks do remain.

- After my seventh application, spots on my neck are retreating, and only a couple more new spots have come to a head. My back and shoulders remain free of new spots.

And that's where I'm at. Overall, I would say this is working out quite well for me. I'm thrilled to not have any new spots forming or popping up. My bigger concern now is whether or not this will help reduce and fade the bigger red spots that were already here. Also, I have a bit of scarring from acne, chicken pox, and a car accident, so I'll be looking into ways to help reduce those next.

Two small notes, I use a very mild, fragrance free, all-natural moisturizer on my face after washing. It's made by J-A-S-O-N ($5.00) and sold at Whole Foods as well. I also take a men's Nature Brand multivitamin. Also, 100% Tea Tree Oil should never be applied undiluted to your face and probably not your body if you have sensitive skin in the first place!

If anyone has any questions on this, I'll do my best to check in and answer them as I hope you'll be able to experience some level of success as I have. It's not necessarily an all-in-one solution (yet), but it's definitely helped stop the advance of the acne. Sorry for the length of the post!

does anyone think the vinegar is really more effective than just a straight aha cream/gel?

I was using Apple Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil and was forced to stop because of the smell(I work in a office). Mainly because of the Tee Tree Oil. Not to mention Tea Tree Oil isn't cheap.

I didn't notice an improvement with the vinegar. I put it on in the shower, although I see how the combination of Vinegar and Tee Tree Oil left on overnight could be helpful in fighting bacteria.

I switched to B5 pills and Medicated Body Powder with Zinc. This has been my savior. I HAD severe bacne, and it is nearly gone.

FYI, I am also on Dans regime.

I have to co-sign this thread and bump it because it's pure truth.

Apple Cider Vinegar has redeemed my back. It used to be covered with leopad-like black spots and since I started spraying 50/50 vinegar/water solution on my back three weeks ago, improvement has been marked.

I have been spraying it on my face and the effect there has been unbelievable. The discoloration is fading everyday.

I've worked my way up to full strength application at this point, but not sure if I believe full strength works any better than the 50/50 solution.

This stuff is awesome.

I felt compelled to join the forum and tell everyone of my experience since finding this thread the other day.

I am 39 and have had very mild Bacne for 5 or more years now. I cant remember when it started but it was not a problem when I was younger in my teens and 20's. It is very mild compared to what I have read about some people but it was bad enough that I was embarrassed to take my shirt off in public. It mainly appeared on my shoulders and biceps but a few angry red bumps would appear further down my back.

After finding this thread only 4 days ago I immediately decided to try this method and have been totally amazed at the result. I used ordinary neat malt vinegar bought in the supermarket and dripped it on a cotton ball and then rubbed it as best I could on my back.

As I applied it I felt a mild burning sensation which was fine and not painful at all. I left the vinegar on for around 45 mins before I noticed like a red rash caused by the vinegar. Slightly alarmed I went straight in the shower and washed then went to bed. On awaking the rash had gone and I noticed that over just 8 hours my condition had improved 50%! I'm on day 4 now and I'm carrying on the treatment in the same way and I have to say I think my condition will be totally eliminated in the next couple of days. My skin feels really smooth, the blackheads are gone and the red bumps have been reduced to almost nothing.

Like I say my condition is very mild but I am totally amazed by the results as other treatments have resulted in nothing. Give it a go its so cheap and effective. What have you got to lose!

Hi everyone,

I'm so happy that I found this forum last week and see this vinegar treatment I had never tried before. I too suffer from body acne, mild on my chest and very severe on my back (from neck all the way down to waist almost). I'm 25 years old with a pretty face and body but I don't remember the last time I wore a bikini or went swimming. It's been many many years that I've been dealing with this secretly. I never told any one about my secret, not even my closest girlfriends who I hang out with everyday. I made up stories such as I'm scared of water to death, and I'm very conservative and self conscious about wearing revealing clothing. For the longest time I couldn't date and didn't want to date anyone. I always hoped that one day my acne will clear up and I would be normal like everyone else. I could never pass the kissing with guys. I finally found the love of my life end of last year. We had a very difficult time when we were at the point of crossing the kissing line. I wanted to leave him because I don't think anyone deserves to deal with this and I'm very ugly and ashamed. He's an amazing person. He accepted my condition and we're talking about getting married smile.gif As much as he told me he doesn't care about my bacne, I wish everyday I could change it. If you're reading this, I'm sure you know how I feel, either yourself or your loved ones suffer the same thing.

I had used all kinds of Rx and went to so many specialists, and the results were extremely disappointing. They all told me it's the hormone...stress...there's nothing they could do. I spent alot of money on this too. I'm glad that I found this site and I started trying the method since last Thursday. So far I haven't seen any improvement yet but didn't get worse either. I've been under alot of stress from school and moving to a new city alone, and I'm sure that has an effect on it. Unfortunately we can't just not be stressed, can we? That's part of life.

I feel great about the vinegar method. It's definitely worth a shot. I'll update my results in a couple weeks.

Good luck everyone and thanks for all the support!

Does it matter if its organic or non-organic apple cider vinegar?

Also is there a particular brand thats better then others. I live in Canada so we might not have all the same brands as the US.

Is it also okay to apply this to the chest and back with a spray bottle. Just thought this way would be faster than slowly dabbing it everywhere with a pad or something.

Well I sure hope this isn't a big practical joke, cos I'm walking around smelling like an over-seasoned salad. My brother has locked himself in his room cos he can't stand the smell.

I just bought a bottle of ACV today and will be applying it day and night half hour before showering. I think Id be too embarrassed to smell like this in public, but Ill see how it pans out.

I joined this site cos of this thread. Im a massage student, which involves me taking my shirt off every week in front of a whole class of people, which is embarrassing enough. But to be 26 and to have severe bacne and che.. chacne.. or whatever.. is horribly humiliating.

I really empathize with a lot of you and wish you all good health and spotless skin!

Well i went ahead and just bought a bottle of generic cider vinager. And have been using it since friday night. I've just been using a spray bottle to put it on my chest and back and then lightly spread it with my hands. I'll post again in a week or so with results.

Should i have bought organic cider vinegar?

Is leaving it on a over night good enough or should I be using it twice a day?

How long should I mix it with water before I can start just using it undiluted. 1 week-2 week?

Tried it, result is very good after just a week, using apple cider vinegar, apply very liberally( splash it on) before bedtime, smell soon goes. Greasy skin feels dry but not dry as when using BP. Please try it.

Hi guys

Just thought I'd answer some of the questions, I put it on with my fingers and just rub it on with a few drops of the Tea-Tree oil (which should be available at any good health food shop) and use it as an exfoliant (i.e. rub it in to take off the top layer of dead skin, especially good for getting rid of the hyperpigmentation associated with old spots). I used Japanese rice wine vinegar but I dont think it matters, any type of vinegar will do.

Not to disrepect anyone's opinions but the poster who thought that my bacne stopping and the use of vinegar was coincidental was not correct - I had bacne for about 15 years and whilst it was sometimes worse than other times it was always there in some form and when I first tried the vinegar it was especially nasty, until I started using the vinegar - as I said I only used it to try to get rid of the red marks and I was astounded when I stopped getting new spots.

It cost like $3 for a years treatment, you have nothing to lose and its changed my outlook on life (the beach is a different place when you dont have to worry about people looking at the dark red spotches on your back).

All the best folks.

M.

How often did you apply the vinegar? And, is it OK to put it on and then take a shower right after?
