My doctor wants me off them. I think im already beginning to become resistant to it.
My question is, how can i tell? Does the acne come back very slowly, or rapidly? also, is it possible that some areas may remain clear? I never use my topical(that i got with the mino) on my forehead, and it's fine. I use tons on my cheeks, and yet acne always was popping up, even when the mino was in full swing.
Would it be smart to use a retinoid now in place of mino, as BP was never strong enough alone...
please help

I've got a question--I was first prescribed tetracycline by my dermatologist about 8-9 months ago. I did a first course of 2 250mg tablets a day for 30 days. This helped my acne hugely, but at the end of the course, it was still there. I talked to the dermatologist, and he said to just take another course for 60 days, 1 tablet a day. Once again, skin was much clearer, but not completely cleared up! Whenever I got off tetracycline for any period of time, the acne would return. I ended up taking yet another 60 day course, which I just completed. My skin is pretty good, but I'm already seeing the acne returning a bit. Would you guys recommend using tetracycline more? Or should I move on? And what are some possibilities for more permanent results?
BTW, my dermatologist-prescribed regimen also includes Brevoxyl-4 in the morning and Duac gel, plus tetracycline, at night.
I have been using Minocycline, a form of tetracycline for almost 12 years now. I take 100mg a day and this seems to keep the acne somewhat under control. As far as I know there is no "permanet result" or cure.
I still have breakouts at times but they are much less severe and shorter in duration when I am using minocycline. When I go off or run out of the drug it is only a matter of time before my skin begins to breakout. I would love to find a permanet cure for this but so far nothing has worked for me as well as mimocycline. Its a pain in the ass to go back to the dermatoligist every 3 month to get refills, not to mention the doctor bill. This probably does not really answer your question and I don't thing there really is an answer out there. I have been searching the net for years trying to find an alternative and so far there isn't one. There seem to be plenty of claims about how to cure acne but most are scams. There is no "cure" only drug treatments that work only as long as you take them. That is my opinion anyway.....

My acne has become resistant to minocycline. It worked really well for about 2 yars.. but now doesnt work anymore.
Do u think I should give doxycycline a try? My question is - that if acne is resistant to mino , does that make it resistant to doxy as well?
Or do u think I sould try accutane?

I have a question -

The problem with me is that I knew mino will do good but not clear my face. And also knew about building resistant to mino and other antibiotics. I said let me take this accutane stuff for 5 months and get cleared.

I don't remember, but one of them kept me clear for a year. I think it was the Tetra.

I got absolutely no side effects but it almost ruined my life my acne became much worst..
Please if you are considering on getting any of those 3 think about it twice it's almost a complete waste of time and pain.
Odds are those crappy pills like Minocycline , Doxy or whatever won't ever cure your acne. It might only get worse than before like me when I took them months ago.
Best thing to do with those pills throw them at the garbache you will thank me later.

I went on Lymecycline, having made my skin go from mild to moderate through changing regimens way too often and obsessing. Lymecycline did nothing in the first few weeks, then i had a supposed 'initial breakout'. But it sure as hell didn't look like just an initial breakout. It made my skin feel grainy as hell, and I had tiny spots EVERYWHERE. before i only suffered in the T zone [nose, chin, forehead] but it gave me spots all over the cheeks and jawline. Heck, even earlobe!
Luckily most of those spots stayed tiny and went away. However, reaching the third month I am now battling with the horrid redmarks it gave me on my cheeks, and the fact that I still get yellow spots, one every few days. The red marks make my acne seem much worse.
Overall, i'd say Lymecycline was not worth it. It made it much worse, then returned me to my pre-drug state. Considering tetracyclines are very similar, i'm gonna say bollocks to the antibiotics from now on.
