Help: Burn from 20% salicylic acid peel

14 posts in this topic

I used my 20% salicylic acide peel for the third time last night. I left it on for only 1 minute (maybe 1:15) but my skin is now red. (The first two times, I left it on for 20 seconds.) I had forgotten that I had used a weak retinoid the night before.

How long do these burns take to heal? Has anyone scarred from one of these?

Please answer soon!

i'm sure you'll be fine.. i've done that a few times in areas i've put to much acid on. all that happens is that the red part of your face will turn into a patch of dead skin for a few days but it'll peel off by the 4th. it only looks bad for a few days but after it peels you'll end up with really smooth skin.

Don't worry. The red skin will eventually peel off and you will be fine.

Don't pick at the peeling skin!

20% SA won't scar you. I use it regularly.

Thanks for the quick replies. I was concerned because I recall someone posting that they were scarred by TCA.

Will the red areas turn brown? I'm doing a presentation on Thursday afternoon so I am hoping it will be ok by then.

Yes, it will likely turn a little brown, but not as brown as TCA.

TCA is a different animal and carries greater risks than SA.

It's not that serious. I did the peel last night. I can see that small parts are beginning to peel, but most of it is still just red. (What surprises me the most is that I only had the stuff on for 1 min 20 secs at most!)

How badly burned were you? For me, it looks like a medium to bad sunburn. (I saw sunburned people outside who looked worse.)
