Wow you are looking great man! Congratulations on the progress so far! I am on Day 25 and I only have a few active pimples left. They don't bother me that much. I don't have dry face or lips probably because I use lip balm all the time. Are you still on 30mg/day dosage? I am on 20mg now but will increase to 40mg on the 11th. I am hoping that increasing dosage won't break me out again...

@ whatanate  Thanks! I am really happy with the results so far. Just amazing how much it has improved in such a short period of time. Lucky you! My lips and face are pretty dry all the time. Got to use lip balm like every 2 hours to keep it in control, however I think it's all worth it.

Day 30 (1 month)

Not too much has changed since last update. Haven't gotten any big new pimples on my right side, which is awesome. My left side broke out a little, but still nothing compared to the breakouts I got 1.5/2 months ago. The pores on my nose and forehead got a little bigger and the blackheads are becoming more visible. I guess they are gonna get pushed out pretty soon. Besides of the dry lips and face I got some myalgia in my back and neck and there is some eczema on my hands. Both of this side-effects however are pretty much managable and totally worth it in the end. :) New update in about a week!

Day 44

Wanted to give you guys an update a week ago already, but I was kinda busy unfortunately. My skin has gotten worse since last update:( I've been getting new pimples like on a daily basis again, which is incredibly frustrating. They also look way redder than a few weeks ago and are often inflamed, which causes pain. The only thing that has improved for me is that my black heads on my nose are now gone for about 95%. The side-effects are still the same: dry skin, eczema & dry lips.

Hopefully it's gonna get better soon because I'm getting really sad because of this.

Hang in there, you're around the 2 month mark now where people say they start noticing an improvement. But even if you don't, other people say it doesn't stay clear until near the end of the treatment. It will happen, don't worry! :)

Roaccutane 40mg daily taken with evening meal

Skincare routine (from a UK gal)

Morning:

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter

Clarins Multi-Active Day cream

I usually don't wear makeup as it clings to the dry patches and makes them look worse (I do put Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat on my eye bags though!),

but if I do wear makeup I use Clinique moisture surge tinted moisturiser or bareMinerals

Top up during the day if needed with Clarins moisture-rich body lotion with shea butter (I know it's a body lotion but it's great on the face too!)

Evening:

Clarins Water Comfort One-step cleanser

Clinique moisture surge intense skin fortifying hydrator

Blistex intensive moisturiser underneath Vaseline lip therapy with cocoa butter

Neutrogena Norwegian formula concentrated hand cream

About twice a week I use Clarins Santal Face treatment oil after gently exfoliating with Clarins Gentle Refiner exfoliating cream

After showering/bathing, I use Neutrogena sesame seed body oil

And don't forget the most important thing - liberal application of Aquaphor lip repair and Blistex intensive moisturiser throughout the day! :)

@Astarte Thankyou! Yea, I am pretty sure the results are gonna be amazing haha, it's just so hard to be patient sometimes.

Day 60 (2 months)

The 2 month mark has been reached! smile.png I have to say I already made a lot of progress since I started Accutane 2 months ago. I may still not be clear, but overall my skin is just waaayyy better now. I noticed my right cheek, which has always been the worst, feels now pretty flat and soft. The biggest problem on that cheek is now the red marks I guess. My forehead has been improving almost everyday. In 2 months I had maybe like 2 big breakouts total. Also, I just recently noticed that the blackheads on my forehead are coming to the surface as well, just like they did on my nose.

The side effects:

In these 2 months I didn't experience very bad side-effects. Just like almost everybody else on Accutane I experienced dry, cracked, and sometimes bleeding lips, dry mouth, dry eyes, dry skin, eczema (on hands), a few headaches and a few times myalgia in my back and neck. Other than that nothing I can think of, so not too bad smile.png

Day 69

It has been a while since my last progress pictures, so here is one: The white stuff right beside my nose is some aspirin to calm down an upcoming pimple. Not sure if it works though, but I just couldn't resist to put some on it.

20140317_194946.jpg

As you can see it's definitely way flatter than before. My skin feels so much smoother and softer which is amazing! Still getting pimples, but it's getting less and less every day, so I think I will be (totally) clear from active acne pretty soon. The main problem for now is the red marks all over my cheeks and forehead. It's pretty devastating because from a distance it still looks like I have pretty bad acne sad.png I am pretty sure it's gonna take at least a few months for them to fade away naturally. pfff....I am so impatient. Anybody has any tips? I already tried sudocrem but I am not sure if it works...

Day 77

Went to the derm today for the second time to check my blood and talk about how it's all been going for the last 2.5 months. I asked her what I should do to prevent the cracked corners of my mouth, but she said I couldn't do much besides using vaseline like every hour. Oh well...haha I guess I'll have to get through this period of dryness. I am still on 30mg/day by the way :)

I have the cracked corners of the mouth at the moment too! I've been recommended 1% hydracortisone cream - I started using it yesterday afternoon, applying 3 times a day. If I see no improvement by tomorrow I'm going to my local pharmacy to ask for advice. I'll let you know what happens!

@Astarte  Thank god I'm not the only one with that problem. The right corner of my mouth has finally healed up, so just one side to go haha.

Day 91

And the 3 months mark has been reached! Yeeeyyy! The last 2 weeks my skin has definitely improved greatly. I can really see that the red marks are slowly fading away and even though I still do get some new pimples I am pretty sure it's not gonna take very long anymore till I'm totally clear from active acne smile.png The side effects haven't been that bad either for the last 2 weeks. I had a nose bleed, dry skin and some lower back pain, but other than that I should be very satisfied.

I am gonna post a picture very soon!

Day 117

It's been a while since my last update because I have been very busy with school, but here it is! I think I can finally say that I am clear for almost 100%, which is totally amazing smile.png My life has gotten so much better in such a short period, it's incredible. I feel way more comfortable in public, I am slowly getting back my self-selfesteem, I am eating whatever I want, I am enjoying life way more, I have less things to worry about, I finally started things I have been wanting to for a very long time etc. For now, I am pretty sure Accutane was one of the best decisions ever! Ofcourse, I am not totally ready yet, because I need to take Accutane for at least another 3 months, but so far the results have been amazing!

Hey buddy. I'm on 20mg, around day 60 and your log is helping me keep my chin up! most people seem to be on a 40mg+ dosage so i wasn't sure if it'd take longer to start seeing results for me. i'm going to look forward to my day 100 haha, your skin is looking great!

Day 171

It's been a loongg time since my last update, I know haha, but there wasn't really anything to report. Today I went to the derm and she said I should stop using it because the results are very good and I am already about 6 months on accutane. (30mg/day) Although I am very happy I can finally stop taking accutane and let my skin heal, I am also a little bit afraid that my acne is gonna come back after a few months. 6 months of 30mg/day seems a little too less to me. I weigh 56kg and the cumulative dose of Accutane is 120mg/kg. (that's what I've read anyway) If I complete my last few pills I have taken about 180x30mg = 5400mg in total. The cumulative dosage = 56x120 = 6720mg. Should I be worried? I told my derm I was kinda sceptical, but she said 120mg/kg is really not necessary.

Haha thank you very much! :) I see you are on Accutane as well? I am sure your skin will look great in no time as well! Just keep on being positive and don't try to think to much about it. In the end it will be all worth it!

Week 14/15 post Accutane

My skin has been great since I got off Accutane. However, since a few weeks I'm getting more and more closed comedones / milia on my cheeks and I haven't changed anything in my routine...If I pinch a little, a tiny wisp? of hardened sebum comes out. I have also been getting some kind of acne under my eyes and arround my nose . It looks very different from the closed comedones though. It looks more like some kind of eczema.

Is it because of the dehydration the Accutane caused? Or is it some kind of side-effect?

I am really afraid my acne is all going to come back already. Anybody with the same experiences?Should I be worried? Should I go back to my derm?

You should definitely go back to your derm for a post-accutane check up now that it has been about 3 months since you stopped. I also got what looked like very small acne-like bumps around my eye sockets and nose, and I still had some closed comedones pop in and out of existence a few months after stopping. My dermatologist recommended I use a topical (ziana) to prevent future breakouts and help with the closed comedones, and I can definitely see improvement (which is surprising since topicals did jack for me before accutane). In terms of the milia, I have that too. My dermatologist said they are very common post-accutane and a mild retinoid will help. They are basically what's left over from the inflammatory havoc cysts wreak in your pores. I think of them as little cyst gravestones, ha-ha.

You'll feel much better if you go to your dermatologist and talk to him / her about a post-accutane maintenance plan now that it's been a while since your last dose and your skin has had time to heal.
