Oh and on a positive note. We all have acne and know how it feels so I feel if one day my skin is perfectly clear I will be a better person for it. I will never ever make fun of a person with acne even behind their backs. Or any other imperfection for that matter. And meeting a person with acne like yourself and being like I feel your pain haha

So true... Acne may have made me a total insecure mess but one thing for sure is that I've become more tactful and more understanding in dealing with people especially those who are insecure about themselves as I am.

Sigh - not another zit!

Haha...thank you guys. I thought i was the only one. I see people around me with no acne at all. My mother is acne free so shes like

* if i had tried stuffs like u try on your skin. I would have been more prettier. -_-
* how many things are you gonna try. Its just gonna make it worse
* u trying new new stuffs is making it worse stop it and it will go. -_-

I feel so discouraged all the time. Usually having sucidal thoughts. I cant even talk my headsup even with my family.

Hi wavey.gif

I'm new here, so I'm quite late on this. But I thought I'd add a few things that are currently sucking for me:

  • Cuddling with a guy and feeling that panic when you realize your makeup rubbed off on his shirt and pillows
  • Only using lamps as lighting because the downward cast of overhead lights is NOT acne friendly
  • Bathing suits and bacne. *cringe*
  • When a guy tries to cup your face romantically and gets a film of sticky makeup on his hand, meanwhile you're panicking because someone touched your face and now you're going to break out and you need to go wash it immediately
  • Buying clothes based off of whether or not it covers your whole broken-out back
  • Spending HOURS reading product reviews
  • Reading every ingredient in a product for triggers before you'll buy it
  • Your friend gets a plate of fettuccine alfredo and you cry quitely into your spinach salad with no cheese

As you will it, so it shall be.

I almost cried reading this. Every single thing you wrote was EXACTLY what my life has been like for the past few years. What hurt the most was that people never understood why I took so long to get ready and they'd get so angry at me for always being late, but I had this terrible fear of leaving my house, plus it took me hours to feel like I could face the world and I just never could be ready on time. I never wanted to admit why though, it was too embarrassing. And because my skin before Accutane was sooooooooo oily I had to wash my face and reapply everything half-way through the day. Everyone thought I was vain, when really I was just suffering in silence. This website is a Godsend.

I used to do that tooo and then when I moved back home I'd still put it on just for my family. It took a long time, and a lot of skin clearing before I was comfortable without makeup just in front of my family!

- going on toilets where the lightning is the best.
- when looking in the mirror you are standing A bit away. Standing just at the wash is making you feel sad, therefore you are avoiding it.
- when you shop and try clothes and go to the barber the only thing you see is your acne.
- bright Day light is the worst.

Yes I totally get this.  I have had many times where I am having a conversation with others and feel like they are zoning in on my pimples and then I get really embarrassed.

Wow, i can relate to so many of those.

And the dentist... I thought i was the only one with that problem.

And to continue the list:...

For the first time being grateful for your freckles (for which you where teased for during childhood) because they hide your acne and all the red spots at least a little.

Watching your freckles fade away after years of using Benzoyl peroxide .

Using Benzoyl peroxide at nights for years and now owning a stack of t-shirts, bed sheets etc. with bleach stains.

Being terrified everytime someone hugs you, because you are afraid of leaving makeup, coverup stuff somewhere on their clothes. (Someone already said that. But it's so true!)

Never having to use eye makeup remover, because your skin is so oily that at the end of the day even waterproof makeup is gone.

Having acne and being an makeup-idiot.

Your glasses being always smudged from your oily skin.

That moment you look in the mirror first thing in the morning, thinking your skin is actually not looking that bad. Then realising that you're not wearing your glasses. And then the shock when you put them on.

Having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics that was supposed to improve your acne and looking the worst ever!

Hating teenagers with perfect skin.

But as far as food goes, I don't care anymore. No diet has ever helped, so i will eat all the shit that i want because i am not willing to give up on more life quality than i already have to.

Thanks again for these awesome posts! Made my day!

YES, YES, YES! This couldnt be more accurate for me. I am dairy-free, a benzoyl user and I've had freckles before acne.

Much of my teenage and now adult life, I have struggled with acne. This year marks the 13th year of acne suffering. Dealing with acne has made me become obsessed with skin as I am desperate to find a cure! It seems now when I go out that I always scan the room and closely look for other people with acne,  just so we can both suffer in silence. It is also easier being friends with people who have acne also. I am constantly avoiding social events because I dont want to be surrounded by "beautiful people with flawless skin". And constantly analysing the food I am eating incase it causes more acne. I hate not being able to eat foods that I love such as cheese, icecream and  creamy pasta and every now and then when I treat myself to some yummy foods, I feel the guilt for days! My only hope is that one day someone will invent a cure, a cure that actually lasts so we can feel ourselves again. Thanks for these comments! Every now and then when I am feeling miserable I look at this discussion and it instantly makes me feel better :) Keep them coming x

-avoiding standing too close to people so they don't stare at your spots.

-dreading that people are going to start talking about how to clear acne even though they don't have it

-avoiding sitting down at the table for lunch as you are paranoid that everyone is looking at you

Okay, so this is something that I actually talked about on my personal blog, but when I came across this site I knew I had to share it with all of you.  I struggled with acne for eight years and during that time I got advice from EVERYONE....even people who had never had a pimple in their life! I mean, what would they know about acne?  NOTHING! That's what. Out of my frustration I came up with a list of things that only people with acne can understand and relate to...feel free to add to this list, we're all in this together after all! Oh, and if you're interested in checking out my blog feel free to do so, it's www.thenaturalacnecure.blogspot.com

  • Waking up every morning scared to look in the mirror because you know that new pimples have appeared overnight
  • Spending an hour (or more) in front of the mirror popping pimples just so you can face the world
  • Being paranoid about everything that touches your face
  • Avoiding having your picture taken like it's the plague...I swear the camera adds 20 zits!
  • Avoiding social interaction when you're having a bad breakout
  • Wanting to punch people in the face when they give you advice on how to get rid of your pimples...especially people who have never had a pimple in their life!
  • Spending your entire paycheck on acne products (that NEVER actually work!)
  • Going to the dermatologist and STILL having acne after months of treatment
  • Being on antibiotics for an unnatural amount of time (that can't be good for your body...seriously!)
  • Being told that you'll grow out of it someday (because in the meantime you are just going to have to be completely miserable!)
  • Trying to change your diet to get clear skin (vegetarian, fruitarian, gluten free, dairy free...I've tried them all!)
  • Getting angry when your family members act like your acne is YOUR fault and that you're doing something wrong to cause it
  • Trying what worked for other people only to find that it doesn't work for you
  • Acne commercials.  LIARS!
  • Scrubbing your face in the hopes that you'll scrub off all the pimples
  • ALWAYS being paranoid that people are looking at your zits when you're talking to them
  • Avoiding eye contact
  • Spending hours researching acne, treatments, remedies, and products
  • Feeling like you're the only person in the world with acne...I swear I was constantly surrounded by people with clear skin and I always found myself wondering....WHY ME?
  • Extremely low self-esteem
  • Constant embarrassment
  • Spending hours applying cover up and makeup...which doesn't do much help at all!

So there you have it.  My list of things that only someone with acne can relate to.  I know that all of you have more to add, so by all means share your thoughts! It's nice to feel like you're not in it alone, despite feeling that way all the time.

This made me tear up. Just know that my heart reaches out to your heart in understanding. I wasn't born with acne. I didn't even have in my teen years. However I got EXTREME acne at 20 years old (2 years ago) when I began using corticosteroids to lighten my skin for social reasons. My skin lightened and then overnight it inflamed in the worst way imaginable, I went from no acne ever to painful red bumps in every spot on my face that could possibly produce a bump and THEY ALL scarred leaving large black dots that never healed because they just kept breaking out. Not only that, when I tried to use peroxide and salicylic acid products they just made it worsen AND FLAKE. So I had huge red blistery bumps, dark hyper-pigmentation scars and huge flakes that showed underneath the mountains of foundation I used to desperately cover it up. It just compounded my anxiety and self esteem issues.  And of course, makeup doesn't really cover it up. And what's worse, after having experienced being lighter I had the added paranoia of returning to dark skin so I wouldn't stop using the corticosteroid topical. I knew I would be treated differently, but that's for an entirely different discussion....

Just know that I love you, I love all of you, and I know what its like to suffer through it. I'm not new to this site, I've lurked for a while but I want to create a thread to share my story and how I figured out how to get rid of the bumps and redness and keep them away with very little money. There are some MAJOR misconceptions about the 'cause' of ace and these misconceptions are why the treatments are so ineffective . There's a CHEAPER way, there's a more EFFECTIVE way, there's a BETTER way. Just know that. We will all be okay.

If you all want I will explain the science behind why acne happens and continues to happen and why peroxide derivatives and salicylic acid only really work if you are a typical teen with normal skin experiencing a sporadic typical teen/hormonal breakout but are largely ineffective for someone experiencing chronic inflammation.
