This topic will be dedicated to my experiance with accutane. I am prescribed 80mg Absorbica taken twice daily (40mg per pill). I began taken the medication November 22nd. I will try to update at least once a week and post detailed progress pictures at least twice a month. I am on a 6 month course

Background: I always had very mild acne in high school however nothing man than 2 or 3 pimples at a time that cleared fairly quickly. Around age 19 or 20 my acne worsened and turned into what I would describe as moderate acne at times becoming more severe and becoming much less mild in the summer with exposure to sun. My brother had much worse acne than I and accutane pretty much cleared him up completely. I have tried a couple different things before which include epiduo, retin-a, antibiotics, dietary changes, as well as the acne.org regimine which I will say did help quite a bit but I was still prone to breakouts so I decided once and for all to give accutane a try. I have taken hardly any medication in my life and was hesitant reading all the side effects but figured I should at least try since I was able to get my prescription for just $10.

I am 6'1" 22 years old 230lbs muscular male. I workout regularly and have been in great shape most of my life. I do sweat a lot when I work out which makes keeper my face clean hard. I work 30-40 hours a week at a restaurant and am on my feet most of the day. I also attend school for business finance.

Also noted: I do not have hardly any neck/back/shoulder acne

Week 1 - the first day taking the medication I definitely noticed the dryness of my face and my lips are pretty chapped. I haven't tried anything other than regular chapstick and moisturizer from acne.org which I had left over. I have had some bad headaches which I rarely ever have which worries me a little bit. I also felt pretty weak working out and not quite myself however this could just be due to the expectations of the drug.

The pictures below are taken on Nov 29th 1 week into treatment my acne has had little change in the past few weeks and has remained the same since beginning the treatment. Also my lips are really chapped in this picture I couldn't find my chapstick and spent all day with family for Thanksgiving I am gonna make it a priority to find some good stuff this week

Developed cystic acne around age 20. I was on antibiotics with a lot of success for a little over a year, and then decided to take accutane. My back has been 100% clear ever since and my face has been 95-100% clear since. I am still passionate about skincare and try to learn new things everyday.

Hey man sounds like we had similar situations when starting accutane.  What's you skincare routine besides taking accutane??  How you take care of your skin will make a big difference in your accutane experience, and all the accutane users can give you awesome tips on products and ideas.

Started Clavaris 5/21/2012 for chin cysts and cystic acne on my back. I'm a 21yr old male with sensitive combination skin (extremely oily t-zone). Been on antibiotics for 18 months and remained fairly clear on my face but my back is still breaking out, and the antibiotic is losing affetiveness on face.

Month 1: 50 mg/day 5/21/2012
Month 2: 50 mg/day
Month 3: 60 mg/day
Month 4: 60 mg/day
Month 5: 60 mg/day
Month 6: 60 mg/day
FINISHED: 150 mg/kg

Routine: AM: - Acne.org cleanser

- DML Mousturizer
- Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar
- Aquaphor on lips
- Cerave AM Mousturizer SPF 30 (when outside)

PM: - Acne.org cleanswer
- DML Mousturizer
- Aquaphor for lips
- Gillette Sensor excel w/ Acne.org Cleanser

Other: - No dairy(for digestive reasons and acne)
- Good, balanced diet (limited fried food and sugar)
- Heavy weight training 5x per week
- Fish Oil, Calcium, and Multivitamin Supplements

I don't have a very specific routine at the moment I have just been washing my face once a day with the acne.org cleanser and moisturizing when dry with the same from acne.org also I picked up a bunch of different chapstick and aquaphor this morning so I will try some of that out

Day 8 - This morning I woke up with one of the worst headaches of my life I was a little scared but remember this could be due to dry eyes I tried some generic brand eye drops and feel a lot better if the headaches continue I will definitely contact my doctor. I haven't experienced any of the blurred vision or significant pressure in a specific area so I think I am okay for now

Also I worked out this morning and was really weak on most of my lifts I squat in the mid 400's and only got to around 365 today also felt weak on some of my accessory work as well

Hold on, did I just read your 6' 11"?! That's nuts, I wish I had I few more inches, I have been stuck at 5'9" for the past two years.

Anyway I started Claravis on Wednesday the 27th, with 40mg and they by the 3rd week I will be on 80mg as well.  Today, Nov 30th, is the first day I have experienced any dryness, but it is welcomed, just feel like I have normal skin without my usual oil, although I expect my skin to seriously dry up by week 3.

Good luck buddy.

I am actually 6'1" haha I mistyped and put in 6'11". Its cool that we are starting around the same time good luck to you as well. From my understanding 80mg a day is typically the highest dose prescribed and was so high due to my bodyweight. My derm said to expect most of the side effects because of the high onset dose but its the only way I can hit that 150mg/kg withing 6ish months.  Good luck to you as well

Day 9 - The headaches were much more mild today I worked all day and had to constantly apply chapstick. I think the eye drops helped with the headaches I am still gonna call my derm on monday and report the headaches just to be safe

You are lucky, my derm said I have to achieve 180-200 mg/kg because some study out of Switzerland said that there is a 95% chance of your ance never coming back when you achieve that benchmark, and I weigh nearly 70lbs less than you...anyway I only have mild acne so I thought that was a bit extreme, but if it works, it works.

My acne wasn't widespread, but my chin had horrible cysts and my back was a mess.  Accutane cleared me up perfectly.  My back was clear within abut 2 months if I remember correctly.  Also, all of my lifts were affected a little as well.  My overall strength wasn't affected that much, but my stamina was noticeably lower.

As far as the headaches, stay hydrated when you workout.  I was literally drinking twice as much water during a lift session and that helped a ton!  It will also get better as your course continues and your body gets used to it,  You may also need to sleep a little more as well.  I was in college and had all afternoon classes when I went through my course and I think the extra sleep was very beneficial.

Other than that, just keep on going, and monitor your progress as well as your side affects.

And also I did about 150mg/kg total (my weight fluctuates with my workout routines)

Day 11 - today I took a bunch of pictures to document my progress, keep in mind my first pictures were taken on November 29th so its only been a few days but I want to show as much as possible to help other

Today I felt the best so far no headaches at all. Almost no side effects besides the severely dried lips I apply aquaphor 10 times a day and chapstick every half hour. I worked out today and felt pretty weak but I wasn't to upset. My skin is quite a bit less oily and my existing acne seems to be diminishing. I do have a cold sore outbreak which I have always gotten during the winter season so nothing out of the ordinary

also I have not drank any alcohol since starting the medication

GO Seahawks!

Day 13 - Couple new small blackheads nothing more than I ussually get. Acne hasn't worsened/improved hardly at all since the beginning which is fine by me. Have some small patchs of eczema or just extremely dry skin on my upper arm. I bought some lotion and it healed up just fine. I woke with a pretty decent headache however it went away after drinking water and putting some eye drops in. Lips are chapped as ever and I have to apply chapstick essentially non-stop nothing I can't manage.

Day 21 - No new pics acne has remained relatively the same few pimples pop up a few fade away not much change since day one

have been getting extremly dry arms and hands and small patchs of excema applying as much lotion as possible. Lips are constantly chapped almost have to apply chapstick every 30 minutes. Lips don't really hurt just extremely dry. I have gotten a few minor headaches from time to time nothing that doesn't go away after drinking some water and using some eye drops (thinking its from dry eyes). Have still continued to workout but feel extremely weak especially on some of the more compound lifts.

There has been a little bit of pressure in my ears thats annoying but doesn't usually last long.

I have still been working out reguarly but workouts haven't been great feel pretty weak haven't been recovering very well.

Doctor's appointment tommorrow to get my one month checkup and blood work done new.

not much change in complextion minor breakouts/healing tends to come and go new pics coming soon

Day - 35 - So there was a little lapse in my medication because the pharmacy had to order the prescription and I ran out waiting so Sunday  I took no medicaiton and on Monday and Tuesday only 40mg back to regular today and yesterday 80mg each day.

Below are new pictures as you can see not much difference a few new pimples a few old ones fade, also my face is  a little red which could be from the medicine however its pretty hot in my house right now. Skin is still pretty dry lips require constant aquaphor and I try to moiturize my face once or twice a day. Daily cleansing with acne.org cleanser.

Drank for the first time and got wasted drinkers please take note I have partied quite a bit my whole life and have been able to put down 10-15 drinks on crazy nights no problem last Friday I had 5-6 drinks and was absolutely hammered, I may have even blacked out for a little bit so I have decided to abstain from drinking throughout the remaining 5 months of the course.

Workout have been awful for those atheletes out there prior to the medication my Bench was around 275 for 5 reps Squat 435 for 3-5 reps and deadlift 405 for 5-6 reps and lately my bench has fallen around 225-245 range squat 295-335 and dead lifts nothing over 315 its really tough my my lower back which seams really weak. Joint pain however is non existant which is good. I am pretty muscular and haven't seemed to lost any muscle just feel much weaker. Im still around 235 pounds with pretty low bodyfat 12-15%

Attatched are some pictures. Next update will probably be a week or two away unless things change

Day - 55 Its been a while since my last update however there hasn't been much to report. My acne improved quite a bit then I had a new breakout so its kinda back to where its been the whole time. Problem areas are definitly turning over quicker and skin is much less oily. As far as side effects some minor hip/joint pain. Still have not had any alcohol for a while now. Workouts have continued to be dismal and have felt pretty weak. I am sleeping just fine and haven't had any major mood changes or issues. Lips are still really chapped I use aquaphor every few hours and moiturize my skin once a day or so.
I have added some pictures as well.
