Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here so be gentle. I just really wanted to let everyone know that I seem to have found my cure. I'm 37 and started suffering with acne as I hit 30, often cystic on my back and jaw line, but not hundreds of them. Maybe five - ten at a time on my face or back. My acne usually flares up badly when I'm stressed or run down. I've used an oral contraceptive that worked but made me fat, oral antibiotics that worked at first but eventually stopped working too, I've used BP and Adapalene which work but make my skin dry and I'm not persistent enough in their application especially on my back.
So thought I'd give Nicotinamide a go after reading a bit of research and within two maybe three weeks my acne lesions had significantly improved, now it's three months down the line and I don't get any cystic acne anymore. I still get the odd normal spot but they are a breeze and clear within a couple of days. It obviously doesn't clear up blackheads so I think I'm going to try Adapalene again for that. I've looked into taking it long term and there doesn't seem to be any problems. Even if this post only helps one person it'll be worth it. I am amazed myself. Oh I take 1100mg before bed everyday. I know I missed about a week a while ago and the acne started to reappear. Good luck...

hello!

welcome here mate.

(for those who dont know, adapalene is differin.)

u mentioned u took nicotinamide is orally.have u ever tried it on topically?

i'd say (since u're to restart adapalene again) give clindamycin + nicotinamide gel a try.

also,i take a multivitamin which has 100mg of nicotinamide in it.

are u aware of the amount of nicotinamide one should ideally take or needs daily?

will there be any issues of overdose or side effect on long term use?(i know u have mentioned once but i'm stressing on overdose in regular inrake)

thanks.

and hope u enjoy ur stay here.

Yea I've tried nicotinamide topically. Doesn't really have much effect to be honest and I have an allergy to clindamycin. It's safe to take the dosage I'm taking and considered toxic in doses over 3g/daily. I'm taking 1.1g/daily so it's finE. I'm in intensive care nurse so have researched it pretty well. Here's an abstract if you want a read, though it's not related to acne..

I'm pretty sure alcohol and smoking do much more harm to people than nicotinamide. Just up your dosage until you find it effective and if you get to 1g and it doesn't work then it's probably just not the right thing for you. I don't think 100mg would be enough though if that's all your having.rolleyes.gif

Rather irrelevant, but I thought this post said 'nicotine', and was about to crawl in and go 'your luunnngggsssss!'. Glad you found something that works for you!
