Has Acne Stopped You From Your Goals?

60 posts in this topic

I actually grew up wanting to become a model (not like a pornstar or anything lol) since I was a little girl. I actually got asked by a few people who are in the modelling business to sign with them..but when I had severe acne, it tore me apart and stopped me from that. Now my acne has gotten much better but there's still a part of me that's scared, you know? Has acne stopped you from any long term goals you had?

Long term goals? No not really it just prevents me from being as social as I want to be. But I'm certain everyone here has felt that on some level.

To some degree it has. It's kinda kept me in a mediocre job for several years and I haven't had the motivation to pursue something more for myself. The biggest thing for me though is what Tim already mentioned, it holds me back in social settings and with girls when I'm interested in establishing a relationship. That's what sucks the most...feeling like I'm getting left behind while all my friends already have steady girlfriends or are married and things like that.

I totally feel you all on that level. Trust me. But holy crap you two are very attractive guys! I wouldn't even care about your acne if you two approached me in person. Heck, you could have severe acne and it wouldn't bother me honestly. I might be bias and all but you two are definitely handsome :)

Nothing to worry about! :)

From some things but I try to not let it hold me back. For example growing up I always wanted to be in the military so despite having dealt with pretty bad acne I joined the Army anyway. What sucks is in high school I had it under control but ever since its been hell.. lol oh well

Acne is a huge pain in the ass. The time you spent treating it can be used to achieve other objectives in life. In some ways it held me back to be more ambitious.

I've always wanna go back to my home country in Philippines and see my grandparents and relatives but I feel like MOST people in there are so shallow and superficial and I might get alot of shit from people because of my acne.

Thanks Dreamer, it's really nice to hear that. You are a knockout no matter how your skin is. I, like many have a weakness for dark hair and light eyes and you have very dark hair and very light eyes :)

And I definitely plan on getting back out there no matter what but there are other aspects of my life I'd like to square away besides my skin before I can do that. I've found forcing it to be counterproductive so I'm taking it slow and steady.

no,never with my career.

i wanted to study medical and carry on with my hobbies which are performing arts like classical dance or painting.

my skin has never screwed with that plan.

although modelling is a different thing.

but there's always chance and there's always hope.

plus modelling now a days is less about face considering there's so many products and make up stuff.

plus if its in print media - photoshopping is a natural option whether or not one has acne/perfect skin.

i am aware of some actresses with acne ,which is visible only when the camera comes really close but otherwise all done up.

also, harsh lights and heavy make up regularly is likely to cause new trouble even if they dont have issues.(not for all, everyone has different skin)

p.s by models,we never really mean pornstars.so u needn't mention!grinwink.gif

Itchy red raised skin - dermatitis??

huge pores

indented scar

oils used for cooking

inflamed whiteheads & clogged pores

my balanced diet chart and skincare routine(medications taken & products used now)

Acne definitely hasn't stopped me from achieving my 'career' goals, which mostly involve writing, research and teaching. Like many others, it has prevented me from approaching women and forming a relationship. I think acne has also stopped me from travelling as much as I would have liked - though I did visit Rome recently, which was one of my goals.

Acne has 'held me back' in terms of how it's effected my self-image, self-esteem and self-confidence - which has impacted me socially because I'm not as confident as I want to be and it's hard for me to improve on that when my skin isn't exactly doing well... My family is always telling stories of me as a kid putting on impromptu shows and performances ... maybe if I hadn't had acne, I'd have tried acting or something. It's not a dream of mine or anything... this post just got me thinking... maybe things would have played out differently for me if I never had had to deal with acne...

As for 'long term goals' I don't think it impacts mine too much - travelling is one so I guess it could impact that for me but the main issue for me not having been able to travel is time and money. Another 'goal' I guess I've had since I was little is to have a book published. I'm not as serious about doing that now as I used to be - but you never know - I might end up doing it, and acne wouldn't effect that really.

The main way acne has impacted me is through my self-confidence / self-image / self-esteem, and all those little aspects have impacted me in a fairly big way - making it harder to achieve little 'goals.' E.g. - socially - I often find it hard to approach other people first, especially guys - so this makes it hard for me to form a relationship. Add to that how it's effected my self-image - if a guy does approach me or show interest in me, it's really hard for me to believe him or take him seriously - I can't understand why he'd be interested in me when I have acne like I do, so I assume he's just messing with me. Which is horrible for me to do and I really wish I didn't. I guess working on my confidence will help all this.

Aww you all are so sweet, first of all :3 I'm so sorry that you guys have been feeling held back. I totally agree though. I really don't know why it held me back from wanting to become a model. Just self conscious, I guess. Yes, I do know Cassandra Bankson and oh my geeez she is amazing and brave! She gives me a lot of hope :).

Yes it has. I more than likely would have gone to college and gotten a job I loved. I would say it more than likely would have been something with engineering.

i can understand acne plays games but its basically ur mind thats the player.

my brother has bad acne but is still in engineering college.and trust me darling no office or no workplace in the whole bloody world would care if u had acne.

the big names from the multinational companies wouldn't care a bit about how the workers skin is ,provided he/she knows their job.

one of cousin has bad acne,he's still so beautiful - both physically and as a person.he's at such a great post at one of the leading banks in our country.

she swaps work at his own whim ,he's that good at his work..all with acne.

there are so many people in my country - i myself know or have seen so many with acne but getting through engineering(or any other course) entrance exam, study or campus-ing(viva sessions) have never been effected by skin or even looks.all that matters is if u're confident and if u're able as well as more or less presentable.

good luck with whatever u do.

but the key is to never ever let ur skin get in the way.

see,i can understand personal and social life may get effected but career..nothing can effect that ur career,ur ambition provided u r good at what u do.be it studies or any skill oriented field.

even actresses have bad times or bad days - u'd want to check out cameron diaz.

i know a few tv actresses in my country but not many people would know them.

confidence and u gotta believe in urself mate.

u're more than ur skin.u;re good.

i understand about social stuff (which one side at school or work) but dnt let it hamper.

now that u're older and more mature,am sure u'll understand what matters and what doesn't!

Definitely interferes with my social life these days, and when I was a teenager it prevented any sort of social life at all, I couldn't form relationships. Acne robbed me of my youth, have tried to make up for it now but it's not the same. Plus I do still have a skin problem, it's never gone away completely and I also now have a few pock marks too which is depressing. Oh and yeah I also wanted to be a model, apart from my skin I am attractive and I hate that modelling was never an option for me. Although these days everything's airbrushed anyway so I can't see how acne would even matter now.

Simple answer, no. I went to school everyday and I was rarely absent (even during bad breakouts). I finished college with over 70 credits and I recently got accepted to UMass university which I am excited. I am 100% clear now, so I will be able to focus entirely on my career without any worries. I remember my skin went at its worst last year in the middle of the semester. Consequently, I didn't get the grade I want.

I will admit that acne prevented me from socializing. I am glad actually, that I have prevented people. Maybe I would be a different person.

Best way to make your skin smooth and clear eventually:

Plant-based diet is the best medicine for everything.. That's if you consume at least 80% raw, mainly from veggies and fruits.

Exercising: cardio is great for skin and lifting a bit.

Thinking positive and try not to stress or think about acne.

I am doing these and my skin is currently very smooth and clearing up!

I am a vegan raw 100%. I feel better, have more energy, saving animals a year, glow skin, I look younger, etc.
