Acne that fails to clear past 25 is RARE. Everyone grows out of it at some point. The owner of this website even states so in the info section. It is predominately a teenage disease. If you have severe acne past a certain age then yes, you are in the minority.

Too many people in the holistic section like to play doctor and it needs to stop as it f*cks with a good portion of peoples minds and encourages eating disorders.

Acne never gets better with diet. Half these people claiming to have gotten rid of their acne from fixing their leaky gut or cutting out dairy have never had acne... They probably have dermatitis or something lol.

... Eczema is worsened by food allergies, like gluten, dairy ect. Not acne. There are types of eczema and dermatitis that do look a lot like acne with raised bumps and pus so this may be why people get confused. They are not the same condition. And if you truly have acne vulgaris your acne will not improve regardless of diet. And I'm only being truthful.

Dan has said time and time again that gut is not an area of research because it does not pertain to acne.

I do know this, when I am on an incredibly strict diet (That makes me starve), my acne decreases substantially. For me, food clearly plays a role

Adult acne is much more common than you think. Not everyone "grows out of it", or at least it takes them a very long time. My mom still has acne at times and she's nearly 60. I don't really get why you keep bringing the whole "you'll grow out of it" thing up. Like I said before, check out the adult acne forum. There are LOTS of people there. It's not that rare. I actually work with several other girls my age or older who have acne. Some of us could take years to "grow out of it" and who wants to wait that long? Or in my moms case, who wants to literally wait until they're 60 or more until it subsides? I'd rather do something about it now if possible.

Actually, I've had an eating disorder in the past. It was unrelated to my acne, because back then I didn't know about the diet/acne connection. I just wanted to be super thin. So far as I have been looking through this forum, there are have been maybe one or two posters that mentioned getting an eating disorder. It can happen, but not if you use COMMON SENSE. You are completely over blowing this whole issue of people getting an eating disorder over this. I'm telling you, as a person who has had severe anorexia before .. just stop. Really. You don't know what you're talking about. There are many doctors right now who are reevaluating the food/acne connection and seeing there is something there. They're just slow on the uptake, it's something many people here have known for years. Not everyone will experience a connection, but there does appear to be *something* to it.

You say eczema is worsened by food allergies, but that acne is not. How do you know this? You insult others saying they're "playing doctor" but then you make bold medical claims like this, saying they "really" have eczema. (Really? I mean did you look at their face with a magnifying lense yourself, Mr. Dermatologist, and make that diagnoses? Or are you just making huge assumptions .. AGAIN?)  Many folks here have experienced a difference in what their skin is like depending on what the eat. And if you're going to diminish and belittle their experience, whatever. You're just being a troll.

Meh.. whatever.  Let's just say that America has a slightly different lifestyle that the average Canadian wouldn't relate to which is slightly off putting - not necessarily in a bad way either, it's just a different culture. I feel like the U.S is just "really out there" if you know what I mean, and Canada is just sort of under the radar.

I don't have acne.

What's wrong with being different? sad.png

UNDER the radar??? Sweet tap dancing Jesus, my family's gone missing!!! How will I ever get them back??? Hold onto your pineapples, were going north and beyond!! We've already lost Africa and Australia, we are NOT going to loose this one!!!

I think I get what you mean but I've come to assume that when people usually mention "Americans" on the internet (in mostly negative ways) that they're actually just summarizing the entire north continent overall. It's not like they're shoving you under a rug... the very idea of hiding a Canadian or ignoring them because they're Canadian makes me want to burst out laughing and I honestly have no idea why... probably because it makes no sense whatsoever. Everyone knows who and what Canadians are, lol... people go where the warmth and heat is, with is further south of our continent. Canadian's aren't being ignored and if anything some should enjoy the solitude if they haven't already.

On an acne site with no acne... 0_0... ohhhhhkaaayyy.

I meant I don't have acne *anymore*. Grew out of now at nearly 25. Had it for thirteen years straight; very aggressive genetic strain.

Oh shut up please... I am sick and tired of your stupid comments here. How did you grow out of it, if you a few days ago you had cystic acne all over your body?? Stop spreading garbage on this forum ok? I am Canadian and I am ashamed that you are embarrassing us

You have acne of course, right? Is it severe? In multiple breakouts? Everywhere? Only cysts? What have you done so far? Has anything worked? Are you on the Nutrition boards for a critique on a few diets? If so, which one would you like to try? Will you be going Paleo?

She's here to be a troll.  I really thought she was banned after last time.  Strangely, when she first appeared here it was to tell us all that acne was not caused by diet but by hormones. And I'm pretty sure she told me to take spiro.  Now, she tells us it has nothing to do with hormones.  Of course, either way she's wrong.

And she had acne and claimed she tried diet changes for so long trying everything she ended up with an eating disorder. But was perfectly calm and stress free about it.  So no, stress wasn't a factor. She calmly and rationally developed an eating disorder.  And she's seen 5 endocrinologists determined she had a hormone imbalance. Also still calm about it, I assume.

Sweet oranges, I'm staying out of this one. Acne or no acne, I simply don't tolerate stereotypes, and I haven't heard of her on other posts before. Thanks for the heads up!

"And you can not get acne from an allergy to "oranges" that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life and medically impossible."

-how can u say that?

of course u can get zits and other skin issues from allergic reactions.

and most importantly, how can u state that its "medically impossible"?

u could check anecdotal evidences if u want but actually u dnt need to.

its something thats taught in bio-science in high school.remember the chapter "immunology"?

there's a sub-topic which explains the allergic reactions?

but i'd like to add that 'growing out of  acne at a certain age' is perfectly normal.

there is nothing crazy about it.

also, there is no doubt that PREDOMINANTLY(!) acne is a teenage or young adult issue.

(before anyone jumps on me - i never said adult acne is not a problem.its widespread but still not on the majority side)

also,i'd request people to not be overly 'abusive' no matter what the other person says.

if u dnt agree and are angry protest and point out the bad.

u dnt have to be 'nice' but please do not call names.

We all know that adult acne is not rare. So you can see how much validity there is to darheart's posts.

And just a few months ago, she was absolutely positive that acne was caused by hormones, period. And of course, that diet had nothing to do with your hormones. Now she is just as positive that acne has nothing to do with hormones. So you see what a stable, rational person she is.

Also, in her very first post in this thread, she said that the superior Canadian diet was probably the reason all Canadians have clear skin.

I'm Canadian and I agree with this only a bit. I have acne myself, but I don't really see many people out there who do have it. Even in my high school people generally have clear skin (not kidding). Maybe it's because we have less stress up here in Canada? I'm sure diet goes into it too just a little, we don't have a diet much different than Americans but it's certainly not as high fat and junky (no offense).

I went to Georgia last year with my family and the portion sizes you guys have in restaurants is ridiculous and the amount of fast food establishments are overwhelming. I'm sure that plays havoc with people hormones.

This is one of the silliest threads I've ever read! Canadians get acne. (And we are not 'better' than Americans. Any Canadian who says that is a racist, IMO). I know this because I am Canadian, and I know lots of people who struggle with acne like I do. The idea that we all have clear skin up here is ridiculous. We're not that much different than Americans. The only factor that may play a role is indeed our healthcare. I see people on the Accutane logs complaining about how their meds cost $400 or more. Mine cost $70 a month, so it is much more attainable for your average person.

Canada is not a wonderland - it is just a place and all places have their issues. Like acne. We have that issue too. And the coldness does not help. Trust me.

Please don't start this thread again. You'll bring Darkheart back. She appears whenever Canada is mentioned. And her crazy posts are too tempting, like a scab you can't stop picking. It lures me back many times a day to see what she's posted next. Don't mention Canada. Or health care.

We have issues but the states is harder place to live overall it seems. Most people down there seem to be under a lot of stress compared to the average Canadian, I can't help but think that perhaps affects their hormones possibly. Stress is a BIG factor in acne severity.

Life in the states from what I've read and seen seems really, REALLY hard. They have stresses in their lives (mostly over healthcare) we can't even begin to imagine as Canadians - what these people go through is just brutal. We don't have a fabulous diet up in Canada but in America their food is LOADED with artificial chemicals, preservatives, hormones and other garbage that the government wouldn't even allow in Canada.

Acne exists here in Canada for sure, but I think in the states it's definitely more of an epidemic.

Oh, never mind. I see she's banned. What a relief. But I see there's other nonsense being posted. Sorry, but people eat roughly the same food in Canada.

Not really. The diet is similar in a certain respect but we don't eat as poorly as you Americans.
