Canadians Don't Have As Much Acne Because Of Vitamin D Levels?

67 posts in this topic

We have had plenty of Canadian members here with acne. Almost every mention you see of someone taking Diane/dianette Birth Control are Canadians as it isn't approved for use in the U.S., or if it is now, it's a recent change.

Most of the claims about the paradise that is Canada are untrue. If the food is better at all, it is marginally so. Do a quick google on the Canadian diet and you will find plenty of results from Canadian news stations and publications about the sad state of the canadian diet, diabetes, obesity, etc.

And yes, they get free medical care, but it's the same bad medical care we get here with doctor's only having the vaguest idea that diet, exercise, and sleep is important while being positive that what everyone really needs are drugs.

And hey, Canada. How 'bout you learn to refine your dirty oil yourself and keep it in Canada. I'm sure you can hire people if you can't figure it out.

I live in Canada and actually it is better here , we have less crime , our food is better too less processed , yes our health care system is pretty

much free another huge bonus , even though orthodox medicine is mostly barbaric and corrupt still surgery etc can be usefull . The US is the

drug capital of the world pretty much the inventor of the pill popping culture , in a recent world ranking the US ranked a dismal 40 th in the world

for developed countries in regards to health care and longevity ie quality of life yet they spend the most per person on it , hmmm , could it be all

the prescription drugs they hand out like candy .

Canada on the other hand is ranked at 27 , a big difference indeed here we are learning to use alternative medicine , herbal medicine ,

acupuncture ,Chinese medicine or what is know as the ancient art of healing , vs the cold and corrupt Orthodox system. You guys invented this

sorry state of affairs we are in sadly , in regards to the oil sands we have , we use the highest standards to minimize environmental impact from

extracting the crude oil from the sands. If you don't like our oil don't buy it , we have plenty of other customers around the world who are in

desperate need of it , remember oil runs the world and it will take a long time for it to be replaced with alternative methods , solar power , electric

wind generators , electric cars etc....

So in conclusion I am proud to live in Canada , no it's not perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than the U.S system.

Thanks, but I don't need the lecture on the state of the U.S. health care. Or crime or anything else. In fact, I'm the last person who needs. it. I didn't even say that Canada was not better. All I said was that it wasn't the paradise darkheart tells us and we have plenty of Canadians here with acne.

And a very easy google search pulls up tons of Canadian publications you have the same issues with diet and health that we do. Articles with headings like 'Canadian diet looks like a Dog's Breakfast' which is a stupid title because no one should be feeding their dog that way.

And we aren't buying your dirty oil, you just want to pipe it across our rivers and streams so we can refine it for you to sell to China. And that type of oil should not be piped anywhere. It takes a lot of pressure to move it, it's extremely corrosive and when it bursts the pipes and leaks, it sinks to the bottom of the water where it cannot be cleaned up. Check out the state of the recent spill in Arkansas. And the massive spill into the Kalamazoo river in Michigan three years ago that was hardly reported on because it happened at the same time as the BP oil spill that still has not been cleaned. Because it really can't be.

Hey alternativista, could you please help me find olive oil in southern california that is: 1) not rancid 2) legit olive oil 3) has all the benefits and antioxidants that olive oil should have?

thanks!

I'm a Canadian and I have moderate/severe acne which is thankfully being treated now by Accutane (sorry, holistic peeps, I bit the bullet and am trying it). I don't know if the rates of acne are higher in other countries but I certainly have friends and family who suffer from acne as well here in Canada. At my university lots of the students had it. Well, not "lots", but you wouldn't ever say that "No one but me has it". You could walk to class and see a few other people.

If people think that if its really more common in the US it may be because you just see it more. We have our medicare system where it is so much easier and cheaper to get treatment for people of all incomes. So that would be helpful. There may just be more people runnin' around with topicals in Canada, who knows.

And lets not get into a Canada vs US debate. Not all Canadians are looking to "pipe our dirty oil across your rivers and streams" and not all Americans eat like shit. Generalizations will just piss people off. I am interested if anyone has found any studies about the acne prevalence though between different countries.

I find it odd that my post here got deleted because I said that the "U.S" seemed like a pretty bad place to live and that Canada was near paradise compared to that. I even got an email or "warning message" from one of the mods on this website to keep "racist comments to myself" - excuse me? what in the love of god! I never said anything remotely racist. I said something about not thinking America was all the great but America is not a "race" so that isn't even racism and my message was hardly disparaging against americans regardless.

I never called them "fat yankee pigs" or anything to that effect, I think I said something about Canada not having as crappy of a diet and a different standard of food as America and that's it, which is completely true.

What a shame that you can't even voice an opinion on a free forum without it getting deleted. Americans sh*t talk and make fun of Canadians on forums all the time yet get no reprimand because I guess they run the internet... sigh.

I find it odd that my post here got deleted because I said that there "U.S" seemed like a pretty bad place to live and that Canada was near paradise compared to that. Despite how hard it is not to burst out laughing at this statement, I figured I'd give you my two cents since I noticed this morning that I somehow replied to an empty comment several days ago. First page of this post a few comments down I think, is that the one? It's ok, I've had a few messages disappear too for reasons unknown. I'm just interested because it was part of one of my previous posts.

When you come onto a community website and some of the first things you do is boldly state one sided views on America, you put yourself in retrospect of the joined community and guest viewing community where hundreds of people skim through. A lot of people I know don't create profiles on websites, they just look at them. No one I know in my community enjoys stereotypes (not racism, lol, that was a typo on my part) about themselves, yet we shrug it off for we understand that that particular individual is under common misconceptions and ill-advised behavior, often encouraged by their peers, media, and close relatives and friends (a.k.a., americans rule the internet, nothing they say ever effects them or anyone else, american talk s*it about canadians and get away with it, etc.. what you're pretty much doing). You may have been more on trying to prove yourself 100 percent right than giving one standard American ANY ounce of credit during their daily activity, and that's probably what others are seeing. What made me laugh was the fact that you posted this comment because there are so many hidden sentences in it that I wouldn't dare go into.

Listen, I love Canada a lot, but I also love my home country, the US. Just because I was dumped on US soil didn't mean that I stayed here longer than anywhere else. Wherever you go, whatever you are, and whoever your trying to be growing up, you will never get far my generalizing a whole people by their countries leaders. It's somewhat of a great start in learning about traits, diets, religions, backgrounds, etc... but for places as diverse as US, Canada, France, some part of China, etc., you'll only get more backlash in return with most arguments heading nowhere. It's ok to state ranks and statistics about each country, but just 'leaving it at that' and boosting your ego may upset a lot of people. Make sure you read the forum rules and harassment policies so as not to confuse yourself.

I recently read a study of how on average canadians are less deficient than americans in vitamin d levels. Maybe this is why they have way less acne?

Is there any way you can find the study for us to read? Was it from an educational website or a news cast website?

It was just a little weird to say the least to have an almost non offensive message deleted immediately from the site. I'm not hysterical about it, I actually don't really care. It was just one of those things that made me think "Huhh? they deleted my post over that? what the f---". It seems like if anyone dare criticize "the Red, White and Blue" there will be Hell to pay (I guess because this is a U.S run website) but you can say whatever you want about anything else.

"There are so many hidden sentences in it that I wouldn't dare go into"? - I think what you're talking about is passive aggression?

That makes it funny as well, it sounds so weird! And why after my post I have no idea... I almost felt like since I said "racism" by accident -since I'm half asleep and on way too much green tea staying up and planning my trip for the past week- that my post should have been the one reported by an automatic system word finder or something. IDK, don't worry about it.

Uh, I guess you could say that? I'm guess what I'm trying to ask is... why the blunt behavior about average American lifestyles? Did something happen to you that an American did? My neighborhood has only two canadians staying for a while but they are still part of the huge diversity that I see outside my window. Could you imagine "averaging up" all these people in statistics to generalize an entire country? It isn't an easy thing to do, so why be so persistent with insisting that America is slightly worse in every aspect when compared to canada? A few of my canadian friends, as well as myself, get tired of this behavior, if not embarrassed. Plus, I have yet to see any popular Anti-Canadian behavior on Acne.org unless they were summarizing 'western living' and the north american continent's resources as a whole. I'm just given you a brief warning that if that report happened then it may likely happen again since you've been fairly brazen about us. Most Canadians(?) who take part in the posts here that I've seen on the Nutrition forums, and who usually only attempt assure everyone that America is bad-bad-bad, end up either banned or their comments permanently removed or frozen in place.

You have acne of course, right? Is it severe? In multiple breakouts? Everywhere? Only cysts? What have you done so far? Has anything worked? Are you on the Nutrition boards for a critique on a few diets? If so, which one would you like to try? Will you be going Paleo?

Meh.. whatever. Let's just say that America has a slightly different lifestyle that the average Canadian wouldn't relate to which is slightly off putting - not necessarily in a bad way either, it's just a different culture. I feel like the U.S is just "really out there" if you know what I mean, and Canada is just sort of under the radar.

UNDER the radar??? Sweet tap dancing Jesus, my family's gone missing!!! How will I ever get them back??? Hold onto your pineapples, were going north and beyond!! We've already lost Africa and Australia, we are NOT going to loose this one!!!

I think I get what you mean but I've come to assume that when people usually mention "Americans" on the internet (in mostly negative ways) that they're actually just summarizing the entire north continent overall. It's not like they're shoving you under a rug... the very idea of hiding a Canadian or ignoring them because they're Canadian makes me want to burst out laughing and I honestly have no idea why... probably because it makes no sense whatsoever. Everyone knows who and what Canadians are, lol... people go where the warmth and heat is, with is further south of our continent. Canadian's aren't being ignored and if anything some should enjoy the solitude if they haven't already.

On an acne site with no acne... 0_0... ohhhhhkaaayyy.

She's here to be a troll. I really thought she was banned after last time. Strangely, when she first appeared here it was to tell us all that acne was not caused by diet but by hormones. And I'm pretty sure she told me to take spiro. Now, she tells us it has nothing to do with hormones. Of course, either way she's wrong.

And she had acne and claimed she tried diet changes for so long trying everything she ended up with an eating disorder. But was perfectly calm and stress free about it. So no, stress wasn't a factor. She calmly and rationally developed an eating disorder. And she's seen 5 endocrinologists determined she had a hormone imbalance. Also still calm about it, I assume.

Status: Clear after 30 years. Wow, I guess it's been 6 years, now.

[ Story: Severe Acne since I was 10. 10+ years of Dermatologists, Antibiotics, topicals and ACCUTANE did nothing. Discovered oranges triggered the worst of my cystic acne = about 70% improvement. Tried some nutrient supplements like B-complex with zinc and C, saw palmetto and a BHA like the aspirin mask = more improvement, a lot less oily. Then, Diet changes = Clear.

Regimen: Anti-inflammatory, nutrient dense, blood sugar stabilizing diet and supplements (for hormones, inflammation, aging, health). No soap or other cleanser except for hand washing! Water only or Oil cleanse. Aloe Vera mixed with niacinimide and a high linoleic acid oil for moisturizer and reduce pigmentation.

Diet effects acne in so many ways: hormone balance, inflammation, Insulin levels, digestion, allergies and intolerances, liver function, adrenal function, SHBG levels, sebum quality, cell function and turnover, nutrient deficiencies, body fat, etc. Basic advice: Eat, sleep, supplement and exercise like you are a diabetic. And eat real food!

I meant I don't have acne *anymore*. Grew out of now at nearly 25. Had it for thirteen years straight; very aggressive genetic strain.

You have acne of course, right? Is it severe? In multiple breakouts? Everywhere? Only cysts? What have you done so far? Has anything worked? Are you on the Nutrition boards for a critique on a few diets? If so, which one would you like to try? Will you be going Paleo?

I am not here to troll. I don't have acne anymore because I grew out of it like a normal person. You're truly a nasty woman, I see your posts chastising other members for their supposedly unhealthy diet as the cause of their acne and quite frankly I'm sick of it. You have no degree of any kind so please stop giving out medical advice and telling everyone that doctors are evil and that a paleo diet and such "cures" all because it simply does not. You do not know anything - you read books and articles on the internet published by quacks and then you parrot the information out here on this forum acting as though you somehow know everything.

And you can not get acne from an allergy to "oranges" that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life and medically impossible.

Do you work? you seem to be on here an awful lot, working people don't have time for that. I assume you're probably on benefits of some kind (disability?) for some type of mental health disorder I presume and probably never leave your house which leaves you with this inordinate amount of free time on your hands to pump out stupid here on the forums.

I am not here to troll.

This is the Nutrition and Holistic forum of Acne.org. If you are not here to talk and learn about nutrition and holistic health and acne, then you are trolling.

And sorry, I get way too many people thanking me for my help and PMing me for help to be concerned about your opinion of me. You are as mistaken about that as you are about everything else.

Sorry, no disability. Wrong as always. And insulting. Talk about nasty.

I work sitting at a computer. Somedays I check this page a lot, some days I don't. Usually when there's someone constantly posting nonstop ignorance and falsehoods, I check back a lot. I can't help it. I keep saying to myself, 'don't feed the troll,' but it's like picking at a scab. You know you shouldn't.. It's just making it worse...

On the other hand, some people are here all evening and weekend, as opposed to having a life. I notice you usually post at night...

For more information, see my Good Things for Acne thread *Moderator edit - Please refer to the board rules (see “Advertising/soliciting”, “Linking” and “Signatures”)*

When you eat stuff, Stuff Happens!

Growing out of it like a "normal person"?? Really? Have you ever even looked at the adult acne forum? Are you calling all of us adult acne sufferers abnormal? If so, thanks a lot. That's really nice of you to try and bring us all down even further. I'm sure we needed that.

She is not "parroting" information at all, she is simply sharing the information that is out there and letting us read it. We can decide for ourselves if we want to use this information or not, but at least she is putting it out there. We're all scientists and we're all trying to find ways to help our bodies heal. Scientists aren't just people who wear a white coat and work in a lab, by the way. :) Science is a process, not necessarily a profession. You don't need a doctorate to be able to try and treat yourself.

Stop insulting us all here and just remove yourself from this forum if you think that holistic treatments are "stupid". (Grade school insults are kind of silly, don't you think?) A lot of people here have been able to treat themselves successfully through diet or other similar means. By the way, it is absolutely possible to be allergic to oranges, you can be allergic to nearly anything out there, for example I'm extremely allergic to aloe vera of all things!

Then you move on to insinuating that she doesn't have a job and is therefore somehow not worthy of being listened to. (I guess that's the point you were trying to make, it's kind of hard to figure out why you went in this direction. Just an attempt at character assassination I guess?) Wow, just .. wow. It is totally possible to post after work or during a break or whatever, that's what I do. And maybe she doesn't work, who cares? Leave your nose out of other peoples' lives and stop being so judgmental. And then, to top it all off, you insult this person for possibly having a health issue that keeps them home. Even if that were true, why do you think that's something that you should use against them? That's really low.

Acne that fails to clear past 25 is RARE. Everyone grows out of it at some point. The owner of this website even states so in the info section. It is predominately a teenage disease. If you have severe acne past a certain age then yes, you are in the minority.

Too many people in the holistic section like to play doctor and it needs to stop as it f*cks with a good portion of peoples minds and encourages eating disorders.

Acne never gets better with diet. Half these people claiming to have gotten rid of their acne from fixing their leaky gut or cutting out dairy have never had acne... They probably have dermatitis or something lol.

... Eczema is worsened by food allergies, like gluten, dairy ect. Not acne. There are types of eczema and dermatitis that do look a lot like acne with raised bumps and pus so this may be why people get confused. They are not the same condition. And if you truly have acne vulgaris your acne will not improve regardless of diet. And I'm only being truthful.

Dan has said time and time again that gut is not an area of research because it does not pertain to acne.

I do know this, when I am on an incredibly strict diet (That makes me starve), my acne decreases substantially. For me, food clearly plays a role

Adult acne is much more common than you think. Not everyone "grows out of it", or at least it takes them a very long time. My mom still has acne at times and she's nearly 60. I don't really get why you keep bringing the whole "you'll grow out of it" thing up. Like I said before, check out the adult acne forum. There are LOTS of people there. It's not that rare. I actually work with several other girls my age or older who have acne. Some of us could take years to "grow out of it" and who wants to wait that long? Or in my moms case, who wants to literally wait until they're 60 or more until it subsides? I'd rather do something about it now if possible.

Actually, I've had an eating disorder in the past. It was unrelated to my acne, because back then I didn't know about the diet/acne connection. I just wanted to be super thin. So far as I have been looking through this forum, there are have been maybe one or two posters that mentioned getting an eating disorder. It can happen, but not if you use COMMON SENSE. You are completely over blowing this whole issue of people getting an eating disorder over this. I'm telling you, as a person who has had severe anorexia before .. just stop. Really. You don't know what you're talking about. There are many doctors right now who are reevaluating the food/acne connection and seeing there is something there. They're just slow on the uptake, it's something many people here have known for years. Not everyone will experience a connection, but there does appear to be *something* to it.

You say eczema is worsened by food allergies, but that acne is not. How do you know this? You insult others saying they're "playing doctor" but then you make bold medical claims like this, saying they "really" have eczema. (Really? I mean did you look at their face with a magnifying lense yourself, Mr. Dermatologist, and make that diagnoses? Or are you just making huge assumptions .. AGAIN?) Many folks here have experienced a difference in what their skin is like depending on what the eat. And if you're going to diminish and belittle their experience, whatever. You're just being a troll.

Meh.. whatever. Let's just say that America has a slightly different lifestyle that the average Canadian wouldn't relate to which is slightly off putting - not necessarily in a bad way either, it's just a different culture. I feel like the U.S is just "really out there" if you know what I mean, and Canada is just sort of under the radar.

What the Hell?I never said a few days ago I had it all over my body you silly canuck, I said *I used to* YEARS ago. Learn to read more carefully. I almost NEVER post on this site. And stupid comments? I believe I read a post on this website in the hollistic section a few months ago from a girl that claimed she had one bite of a sugar cookie and broke out into a thousand pimples the next day... ummm yeah. That's the type of grand intelligence you see around this website apparently.

Acne is not diet related really I beg to differ.

I don't appreciate your lies and I don't appreciate your insults... To me you are a pathetic human being... If I get a warning for calling you "pathetic" and "rude" and "insensitive B****" then so be it!

and to return to the original topic, I don't think it is true. I am Canadian and I have acne and I am 28. I see people in my community who are my age or younger/older and who also have acne.

Good nite smile.png!

Wow, you sure are hateful. Pathetic human being? for this? come on now. Lies? I never lied about sh*t. What insults? I told you to improve your reading comprehension (which sucks by the way) and that's pretty much it.

28 and you still have acne? Just get some Proactiv, goodness me. Justin Bieber uses it, it will clear your skin.
