Alright, can anyone tell me what B5 does exactly? And does it work well? Are there any dangerous side effects or possible breakouts that may come from taking this stuff? Please share all knowledge, facts, rumors, etc. Thanks.

it can cause permenant hairloss. dont believe anyone who says its 'water soluble' and safe. if it was so safe it wouldnt be causing 20 year old kids to get genetic hairloss they were supposed to get 30 years down the road. be very careful.

Thanks for your help, Word and Sadcaroline. Ryan, you didn't do a very good job at condescending me, if that's what you were trying to do.

ppl might have experienced hair loss due to b-5 but there is a difference between hair loss and baldness ppl who experience hair loss on b-5 there hair fell out more then it did before but it still keeps growing back baldness is where your hair falls out at a normal rate but does not grow back or it grows back thinner then it was before and eventually becomes more and more thin I had some if any hair loss while on b5 but my hair is still really thick and most ppl who take b5 there hair loss problems go away within a year and I have never heard of some one going bald from b5!

i got my information from my derm, after i began using another anti androgen (spiro). For everyone that doesnt know, b5 is a potent anti androgen. My doctor (derm, hair specialist) told me that any time you take an anti androgen, it is blocking the hormone (or receptor site) that causes androgen problems (ie: acne). Which is good, BUT the problem here arises because when you block one hormone (say the type os testosterone that causes acne) another hormone rises (there are a few what i call 'man hormones' (types of testosterone etc) Now i cant explain this as well as my doctor did, but what I got from it all was anti androgens (b5, spiro) block some of the male hormones/receptor sites, causing another hormone (dht) to have its serum levels raised. so because its blocking the hormone thats causing your acne, it causes DHT (thats known for hairloss) to raise really high. And alot of times if there is someone who has a genetic link to hairloss, whether the hairloss started at a young age or not for your parents, can now happen VERY early on anti androgens. My doctor said he sees this all of the time, especially with young girls trying spiro or b5, they dont understand what can happen, and most doctors wont go into detail about spiro actually causing hairloss, because actually in some people it is USED for hairloss, confusing i know. The reason i say its not water soluble is this: i am aware that if u take b5 in too high doses you will pee it out, but honestly i think thats giving unsuspecting people a safety blanket. The reality is, if it was so 'safe' why the heck is my doctor seeing kids get hairloss that turns into premature baldness? (yes thats right people, hes seeing permenant loss from b5) i have already lost my hair (70% and counting) due to anti androgens. Now whether you guys believe it or not is up to you. But i adored my hair, and the hell if i will sit around letting people say its 'safe' without me chiming in. If i can advise one kid or save someone from the pain of losing their hair, i will do my damndest. because it has been a fucking nightmare that i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy.

sorry for the emotional post, its a touchy subject for me. but i didnt really answer your questions: (my quote thingy is messed up hehe )

How many of these kids have experienced genetic hairloss as a result of taking B5?---

My derm didnt comment on how many kids were getting this from it, he just said the increase in genetic hairloss from anti androgens has been unbeleiveable in the last 5 years or so.

how do you know the two are linked?

----I go to one of the top dermatologists in the WORLD. If you are interested, his name is Joseph Jorrizzo and hes at Wake Forest University Baptist medical center. Hes absolutely phenomenol, and he gets patients from all over because he is a genius with non traditional problems. (genetic hairloss from anti androgens) He is where I got my information, after i began losing my hair, I researched on the net to figure out WHY? Because the only thing i was taking was a medicine to 'help' hairloss (spiro). So naturally i rushed to him, and he gave me the grim news of what he has been seeing. He is the one who says the two are directly linked.

ppl might have experienced hair loss due to b-5 but there is a difference between hair loss and baldness ppl who experience hair loss on b-5 there hair fell out more then it did before but it still keeps growing back baldness is where your hair falls out at a normal rate but does not grow back or it grows back thinner then it was before and eventually becomes more and more thin I had some if any hair loss while on b5 but my hair is still really thick and most ppl who take b5 there hair loss problems go away within a year and I have never heard of some one going bald from b5!

------------- this is wrong and right. SOME people (the ones that DONT have the genetic link) may just get hair shedding from b5. But if you have the genetic link, it will turn into permenant genetic hairloss that doesnt get better. The follicles will start miniturizing, and it will be exactly like your 50 year old dad, except you get it when your very young, because the anti androgen linked on to the genetic aspect of it. And its really dificult to know who has the link, some say you go by your mothers side, the hairloss patterns, But my doc says sometimes it doesnt matter. Also, he commented that recently (within the last year) he has seen people that shouldnt have a genetic link to hairloss (no real hair loss on either sides of the family) get genetic hairloss from b5 and spiro. Thats some pretty potent stuff if its inducing permenant hairloss in someone that has no hairloss on either side of the family. My doctor is seeing a few people who just gopt shedding from it, but a HIG influx of those with genetic loss from it. But the sad reality is, once it happens, theres no turing back, because once the hair follicles become sensitized by DHT, they never return to normal. sad.gifsad.gif

hope this answered your questions.

thanks nofx smile.gif.. i can understand why everyone is baffled everytime i mention hairloss with b5 and spiro though, because in so many people it can actually treat hairloss. the hair loss reaction i would consider not really rare, but not too common either, its certainly not something that happens to everyone who takes anti androgens.
