Ive been hunting ALL morning for naturopths in Scotland and have emailed about 5 good ones which sound promising, I am hoping that at least one of them gets back to me and hopefully can set up an appointment. I just want to have a full on evaluation of my hormones and things you know.

Ps. another effect of the Spiro that I notice is have less greasy hair, like I can go about 4 or 5 days without washing my hair before it gets oily.

Hello Hello Hello. I thought I would write since things are looking up a bit. That only started about an hour ago, lol, so until then it was the down slope of yesterdays continuing on. I washed my face tho and was pretty surprised when I looked in the mirror and my skin looked okay-kinda good. I am still avoiding certain mirrors/lighting because it does nothing but make me feel worse. So in my favorite downstairs bathroom lighting, I took to it with the black soap. Same purging continuing and my skin looked really good after I had washed. I have about 10 or more little clogged pores that are pushing a visible thing, interesting. All of this keeps reminding me over and over and over how big of a concept patience is with things like acne. And I guess health. Seriously, skin improvements seem to move at about a snails pace. Not to mentions more steps backward than forward. Our mind, the frustration and the fear, however, move at a million miles an hour. So I guess there’s really no point to worry. I need to stop playing the mental game of ‘my skin will never look better, I will never look better, it got this way and it is stuck this way forever’. Your skin will get better and so will you if you keep trying. I think its as simple as that. That doesn’t mean that trying isn’t a bitch and entails crying and dead ends and it’s definitely harder for some than others. I’m at the point where I’m like, if it helps you, and makes you feel better about your skin, f*** do it and be proud of it. I have zero judgement. Waxing poetic about this makes me feel better I guess.

I’m going to see my old family doctor tomorrow. I’m pretty nervous, and insecure and embarrassed about it actually. I guess she feels more like a family friend than a doctor cuz she saw my mom and I for years. But I need to tell myself that doctors have seen it all, and they really aren’t very judgemental. Hence their inability to understand emotions sometimes. It’s their job to look at things from a scientific, clinical perspective and they aren’t going to think less of you as a person for having a health problem. The last time I was in to see her I was probably 16 with perfect skin and zero health problems, so I just feel kind of like a train wreck walking in there now with my wonked out blood test and slew of issues. I guess I almost feel like she will be disappointed in me and my “bad” health. I guess I’m breaking up with the naturopath. Kind of awkward, but yeah really not feeling that treatment protocol. I have taken some aspects of what I’ve learned from the experience, but other than that I guess I don’t really feel confident in her care and trust her to fully help me. Just a gut feeling that I’m going with. I realized that the only reason that I was going to my most recent appt with her was she basically forced me to schedule it and I was going out of guilt to not make her feel bad. So I cancelled it. And said I would call back, haven’t called back and she called me and left a minute long voicemail. I feel like she is very eager for patients and for them to see her a lot, which hey, this shit aint cheap and I kind of feel like I am not getting my moneys worth at all. So sorry to her. But stacy I think that’s awesome you’re making a naturopath appt-if you find the right one it could be amazing and fix everything up. I just had a weird experience. & thank you for your words of encouragement. Just remember it gets worse before it gets better and that the only place to go from rock bottom is up, and you will never go back!

I FOUND A GOOD TIP AND THING FOR ZITS. K don’t know if you guys already know this or not but have you ever applied Neosporin or polysporin to active pimples? Sorry if you have. But holy shit it reduces a mark by A LOT. I read on an old post of a veteran member about how to deal with a cystic pimple, and she recommended doing this. She also said that before she started doing this, every cyst would leave an indented mark and obviously a red mark. After she started applying Neosporin/polysporin they have not left any indented mark and the red faded faster. I did the same thing, applied it to all my whiteheads and as sort of a ghetto experiment, I saw that it worked. This is because I get the same kind of whitehead in this section on my forehead repeatedly. They’re kind of bad. The first one left a small boxcar scar because an ESTHETICIAN popped it ---(THANKS) and she went after it way too aggressively. It really hurt, which zits don’t usually hurt that bad when they pop unless they’re a cyst, so she f’d it up. It barely needed pressure to pop and she like attacked it. Careful with those estheticians. The next white head left a legit red mark because I popped it, but no indentation. And the last one where I used nesporin left nothing but a small pinkness and it only appeared like a week ago. I also did not pop it, it kind of removed itself. But please try this if you’re getting marks, it might seem unnecessary or you might be worried about the Neosporin being greasy but it hasn’t caused any extra zits, I haven’t had any new ones since applying.

Also I am on a lower bc now –ortho tri cyclen lo. The mononessa was a generic version of OrthoCyclen. Orthocyclen has 35 ug Estrogen/day whereas ortho lo has 25 ug and slightly less progesterone as well. However I think it was the higher estrogen that didn’t agree w/me. I was also on ortho lo on and off for 8 years w/no probs.

Hello all,

I'm mostly commenting as a bookmark because there is a lot of good information here! I've been taking Spiro for 4 months and am pretty happy with my results. I wish the best for all of you!

Day 49 (week7) - FIRST DAY on 50mg

Hello guys!

I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone for their kind words and support throughout this log, seriously, without this log I would be so lost and just...I don't even wanna think about it. I don't what it is about writing or typing even about your thoughts and feeling, it just feels like a release, like a PURGE.

Righty, I decided to up my dosage, so that is me now at 50mg. My doctor actually wanted me to wait until I got the results of my kidneys back but I just want to try it and see if 50mg might be the answer and work for me more. What dosages is everyone else on atm anyway again??

Side-effects I have noticed currently is literally just the less greasy/oily hair. This is very noticeable though. Also my hair is a bit thinner, BUT it is long, so if it was shorter it might be thicker, I don't know.

I also have noticed a bit of a more womanly shape to my body. I am generally bottom heavy (Booooty!) but I have broad shoulders - I kinda have the body of a gymnast, that figure aside from the lean-ness of them, at the moment. I am aiming to lose some weight, or inches and have been exercising a little more, Im probably between 117-120lbs at 5'1- however this easter I did eat alot of chocolate, OOPS. I have actually ate a bit of chocolate everyday for the past week tbh, so maybe this is why it seems more inflammed?? Yea proabably.

My skin state right now is hell. Seriously. My. Skin. Is. Shit. I have acne almost everywhere, with a rough texture to it. I had been using ABS (african black soap) once per day for a week and a half but took a break from it yesterday, it is very drying and I think it has made me purge like crazy.

Also I have been taking 1000mg of EPO (evening primrose oil) for 5 days, and I wonder if these have something to do with the inflammed spots? They actually have nuts as an allergy. Its probably the amount of sugar Ive consumed though, so lets just wait and see howI am in a week of healthier eating.

Day 47 (week6)

Hey people. Im totally disgusted with my skin today. Its in a terrible mess, a really bad state.

Its that bad that Ive been toying with the idea of stopping Spiro? Thinking that it may not be working for me? Im trying to be patient though.

Another thing that I have recently done however has been taknig Vitex - a kind of progesterone boosting herb, I bought a tincture of it and have been consuming 5ml for 3 days with water. Also I have been taking Evening Primrose oil in a pill form for 4 days, BUT I noticed that it contains nuts. Now I always notice that when I consume peanut butter I kind of break out.

Aw man, maybe Im doing too many things at the one time? I dunno, Im just soo upset about my skin, it is truly shit. Like I have spots EVERYWHERE right now. Some are large cysts, on forehead and chin and sore and some are papules, mainly red and around my chin.. Also just tiny wee spots red or just skin coloured places. Im fed up.

Ps, period is STILL LATE.

Keep your head up!! You're only on week 6 and I remember for me it was right after the one month mark that I thought my skin was the worst it had been since starting spiro. Right now I'm almost at 12 weeks, and one side of my face and forehead are just healing with only one side with more active pimples, and I think that may even be just because I'm about to start my period. I keep trying to tell myself that around 4 months there should be a significant change, so I think it may just be too early to tell for you. I know that right now everything sucks, but I believe it will get better for you! Try not to stress too much, I know that's easier said than done, but take time to breathe throughout the day and not think about your face.

Are you working out and drinking enough water?? I know that I have to remind myself to drink water a lot through out the day and that seems to help my bloating, as does drinking green tea... I try to drink 2 cups a day and it may just be in my head, but I think it's working.

Stay strong!

Theresa

Hi Theresa smile.png thankyou for your support, Im really not in the best of places right now. My skin is truly terrible. I keep thinknig that maybe I should just stop everything altogether sad.png

How was your skin when you started Spiro?

Thankyou for the tip of drinking more, I will try my best but right now Im drinking about 2L water a day and a cup of tea and coffe once or twice a day too :/

Honestly, my breakouts were mostly around my mouth, and along my jaw and chin when I went on Spiro, and then a few weeks in I started getting a lot more in the center of my cheeks :(  My doctor however warned me that I could start seeing acne where I hadn't really before. Funny thing is, my chin and around my mouth are pretty clear and now it's just my cheeks. I imagine it really is the whole "it gets worse before it gets better." I'm on 12 weeks now and I still have a few cysts, but a lot of scars, which I sometimes think is just as frustrating to see. I do think maybe you are doing too much. My derm really stresses keeping it simple. I'm not even on any prescribed topicals because he didn't want to stress me out more. I stick to a basic cleanser and mosturizer. Maybe that would help you...

No matter what, I will say that I do believe my skin is getting better. Though it takes a long time, it has been much more bearable than when I was on accutane. Stick with it... I think if you get to four or five months and you're not seeing any improvement, it may make sense for you to try something new, but for now I think you should keep at it.

Shawna,

Would you say you started seeing the most siginificant results in the last month or so?? I'm at 3 months, so I'm curious if I can expect more improvement!! I'd love to hear about your journey... glad to know spiro is working well for you!

Theresa

Hey all,

Just a quick update: I'm at 3 months now and still taking 100mgs a day (2 50mgs doses). My skin is OK. Have some new active cysts on my left cheek and lots of fading scars. To be honest, I was hoping 12 weeks in I would have this amazingly clear skin, but I guess that wasn't very realistic :/ Really hoping as I make my way to month 4 there will be some more significant changes.

Also,I am wondering, has anyone done Red Light Therapy for their acne? I've read that it can help, but I wanted to see if anyone here has ever done it or knows someone who has.

Xoxo everyone!!

Theresa

A short summary:

I started seeing improvement at 3 months-- this is also when I increased my dose from 100 mg to 150 mg. My skin got worse the first month, stayed the same the second month and started to clear the third. My chin cleared first and quite rapidly. Then my cheeks started slowly getting better. I still have issues with my cheeks because I pick a lot. I have scars, so the skin isn't very smooth and for some reason I get it my head that I need to continue picking at it even though there isn't any acne which then causes acne/more scars. It's obviously counterproductive and I'm trying to be better about it.

I think a lot of my problems the first month or so were caused by an initial breakout from Retin-A. Although I really like Retin-A, I wish I would have waited on incorporating any topical treatments until I saw improvements from the Spiro. If I were to do it all again I would probably just use CeraVe or Cetaphil products for cleansing and moisturizing and at the most, a weak non-comodonegenic acne product with salicylic acid or glycolic acid. The only reason why I say that is because   it is really difficult to be patient for so long and if other products are causing you to breakout, you may think the Spiro isn't working.

Good luck!

Shawna

 Shawna,

My derm just upped me to 150mgs this morning so hopefully that will help!! I'm so amazed at some people getting results with only 50mgs... I love my cetaphil products... do you use a spot treatment at all??

As for picking... I hear you, I actually wrote on my mirror with dry erase marker to not touch my face unless I'm washing it!!

It's a never ending battle :)

Hiiiiii! I just ate 2-3 tablespoons of water kefir grains. Not water kefir...grains. They are clearish-beige, bouncey organisms made of goo. My stomach feels all gurgly and wild, that was the pointshifty.gif ...$35 fancy co op brand probiotics have nothing on these guys. I wonder how many billions of orgs they contain... i'm guessing a lot. I also just wrote a long post, hit a button on my keyboard and my whole post was deleted. I don't care, writing to get experiences/feelings out is fun but now that i'm re writing it i can't make it sound as good, dammit. i'm brewing a chocolate coconut water kefir right now.

My skin is doing good. I think it literally takes months for changing hormones to reflect in the skin. it's been 1 3/4 months on bc, which isn't that long, so i'm happy but its funny saying that considering how intensely impatient i felt even four days ago. I haven't gotten any active pimples except for a small one every other day or so, so thats quite good. Esp considering i've been eating some cheese and dairy yogurt. sheep's milk yogurt is hard to find at most stores. My ezcema is not good. all the bumps/clogged pores are still purging, as always. I've been careful about not using too much irritating cleanser too frequently, as I noticed my skin had started to produce significantly more oil, which is either due to hormones, or washing twice a day with a potent cleanser. So I scaled back to once a day or every other day with the black soap, and that has worked really well. If i don't use it at all, all these clogged pores will just sit in my skin before, so a delicate balance is necessary because too much washing will create new acne, just what everyone needs.

reading this book about (chronic emotional) stress has literally put the fear in me in terms of realizing the importance of expressing emotions healthily, working through them and maintaining a positive internal mental/physical state. you get no extra "points" in life by being a self-critical, spiteful perfectionist (towards yourself) with low self esteem. In fact, doing these things makes achieving goals much harder, and only makes me seem more self absorbed by tearing myself down and not being emotionally open to others. and caused me to develop panic attacks. Anyway, this is sort of off topic but it has been completely related to my skin issues as i have seen firsthand.

speaking of expressing emotions, my mom is kind of driving me nuts. i'm not working right now, so i interact with her often and I guess I feel like she prefers to talk about surface level, practical things and pretty much nothing else. she'll talk to me about groceries, taxes, bills, unemployment, doctors appts, traveling etc etc and surfacey level anecdotes about her sisters. I prefer to talk about more varied and interesting things. so i guess i feel kind of stifled and hopeless, anytime i talk about something abstract she doesn't really have anything to say. I would like to just get a job, but I had a lot of bad anxiety experiences at my last job so i'm trying to work through that enough to prevent it from happening again. feel kind of trapped i guess. anyway, anyone else struggling to connect with family members/friends? xxxx

Hi Stacey,

I'm very happy to hear you have increased your dose of spiro.  I have read about lots of ladies who have breakouts for months and then finally increase to the "magic dose" of spiro that clears them.

I'm all the way at 200mg (also weigh 120 lbs) and I literally JUST started seeing improvements at 12 weeks.  My initial breakout honestly lasted the full 12 weeks. I know that doesn't sound great, but I'm hoping it helps you stay optimistic.  I'm not perfectly clear yet, but there has definitely been a shift that happened.  I noticed my skin wasn't making as many new pimples around 11 weeks, but the existing pimples and clogged pores were slowly coming to the surface and getting angry and inflammed. So I decided to get a facial to get rid of the congestion and that helped immensely.  Maybe it's something you can look into?  Kind of like speeding along that purging process.

I hope the clean diet helps improve the inflammation.  I really notice a difference when I cut out sugar (most importantly), dairy, and gluten.  Sugar and dairy tend to be the most common culprits when it comes to skin.  However, if your problem stems from hormones, diet will help, but it can only do so much.

Please remember that there is a reason you are going through this.  There is a greater purpose.  Acne is...humbling.  It gives you perspective.  It shows you how to appreciate the little things SO much more.  Hang in there.  We are here with a listening ear and a shoulder if you need it.

I also just want to say, I am so grateful that you started this forum!  I feel exactly like you do.  Just writing to you ladies and reading your posts helps me know I am not alone.  I kept my acne such a secret for so long because I was incredibly ashamed, but talking about it here has really helped me put it into perspective.  My acne doesn't define me as a person.  It's just a skin condition.  Since I've been on acne.org I've been able open up to other people in my life.  I just finally let my boyfriend in on the big "secret." He saw me without my makeup and still told me I was beautiful.  Whew!  What a weight off my shoulders... So grateful I have loving people in my life, and you ladies are included.

xo

Sierra

P.S. - I have three pimples on my face right now.  Plus one tiny one.  That's it!  Yippeeeeeeee!  Soon I can start working on all these scars... will keep you posted.

P.P.S. - I follow this girl on youtube and she's really inspiring.  She has severe cystic acne and she's a model!

I would like to just get a job, but I had a lot of bad anxiety experiences at my last job so i'm trying to work through that enough to prevent it from happening again. feel kind of trapped i guess. anyway, anyone else struggling to connect with family members/friends? xxxx

Kelseylee this is soo hilarious! I, too, have been just looking into water kefir! I have ordered 3 500ml jars to do it with and going to order water kefir grains from ebay today or tomorrow! How did you make it? Did you make the water kefir or did you actually just eat the grains?

I have read that you can't eat dairy when doing it, this will be hard for me.

You really have been incredibly patient and Im really glad and happy that you have started to see an improvement. The black soap is extremely drying, I have not used it in about a few days. I don't know wether to use it again or not.

I enjoy books like that, I may look into it actually, I need a new wee "self-help" type book. I bought the book of The Clear Skin Diet, but to be honest it ain't that great.

On connecting with family members, yes I find it hard. Especially since I only live with my mum, she kind of just gives me tough love speeches and it can be harsh sometimes. She doesn't really understand just how upsetting it can be. I hate being open about it to her because all she ever does it role her eyes and just says things like "stop thinking about it!" or "its not as bad as you think AT ALL" - to be honest I don't know what I want from her, wether that be comfort, advice, sympath etc. I really don't.

I love your updates Sierra. Thankyou for this post. I also follow her on Youtube, she's so real and genuine and open about her skin. Do you ever notice all those people commenting on her posts tellnig her to "go on Accutane!" blah blah, makes me so angry.

I actually read somewhere recently that wether you go on acne or not it will NOT work for those with hormonal issues and will just keep coming back.

How does your doctor feel about you being at 200mg? the full 12 weeks yea? In a way it does give me hope but since Ive been reseraching other things about hormones I keep getting this nagging feeling that it isn't going to work for me, um I haven't had a period since the 2nd of Feb so it is 5 weeks late right now. And since Im not on a BCP...as my androgens lower, Estrogen (I think) is now the dominant hormone. I think Im low on Progesterone and this is why I have'nt menstruated. So because Im not on a BCP I don't have the synthetic balaning of these 2 hormones you know? So I am at a loss as of what to do.

I am actually going to go see a Naturopath. Shes based in Edinburgh and seems really nice. She has helped and healed people with Ecxema (SP?)  and other skin conditions. However its £50 for hour and 1/4.

Im so so so happy to hear you are doing so well, honestly, you truly deserve it!

:)

Day 54 - week 7 - 50mg

I hate not having anything good to write in this. I think that's why I am not posting too much because undoubtedly it will be bad news, or self-pittying.

I did go out last night and I did, regretfully, consume alcohol. But Im feeling really shit today and have been the past few days about my skin, it honestly isn't doing good - like I have lots and lots of teeny teeny skin coloured bumps all around my nose and cheeks, I have alot of hyperpigmentation, my forehead is BAD BAD BAD. Like LOADS of bumps, its inflamed and I have a cyst on it. It looks like a stress spot. Also I have alot of spots in my eyebrows. - fucking LOTS, they are white/skin coloured mainly.

Mentally I am not so good, like I feel sad whenever I look at my skin - I tend to avoid mirrors.

I am going to call the Naturopath on Tuesday to arrange a wee appointment. I hate feeling like this about myself, I really do.

On a small brighter note though I haven't consumed milk in about a 3 days - big big step for me. I am going to just go the full hog and have no dairy at all, I mean to be honest though the only dairy I currently consume is like trace amounts of milk which is in packaged foods. I think I may also have an insulin problem, because I notice that whenever I have something sweet its like my body just does not know when to STOP. It just craves and wants more sugar - is this Insulin resistance? Cos' if it is then I seriously have it.

I keep debating aswell whether to go on a BCP again to help balance out the progesterone/estrogen in my body. I really need some advice on this.

Hi stacy! Just wanted to say hi and I relate a lot to what ur going through. I went through a cycle for like four YEARS where I would go out, drink too much, feel terrible the next day (physically but out of guilt/disappointment) and the cycle would continue. This is prolly more extreme than what you're experiencing but it was a very frustrating cycle I got myself into and yeah, I just know the feeling of it sort of adding to already existing struggle like acne. I get a lot of pimples in my eyebrows too, its painful and frustrating. I think posting when things aren't going well is prolly more important than when they're going ok, venting is very necessary.

It really sounds like you're on to something about the progesterone. I'm curious how spiro works so well for women @ higher doses without directly balancing the progesterone/estrogen. It obviously acts on androgens/DHT but I'm wondering if by fixing testosterone it helps encourage a balance between estrogen and progesterone as well? it sounds like, w/your irregular menstral cycles, you're experiencing either difficulty with the Estrogen/Progestron balance or something else.

Anyway, don't give up, it sounds like you're getting closer and closer to figuring things out. I know on a blood test they can tell you exactly what your estrogen/progesterone levels are so they should be able to see if you have low P compared to your estrogen. I had very low levels of both. naturopaths also have a lot of ways to raise progesterone as do doctors. Of course birth control pills would balance it out, but you'd have to make sure to find one that had an ideal balance of those two hormones because when i looked on wiki the variation between birth controls is HUGE. yaz for example has an average amount of estrogen and a HUGE amount of progesterone, etc. I think that's why women experience success with it often. High levels of progesterone are associated with feelings of peace and euphoria. For me, a bc w/high estrogen to progesterone made me feel like CRAP and a bc with average/low estrogen and higher progesterone made me feel much better. I know greengables has a LOT of info on these types of things, she has done spiro and I believe was going to try bio available progesterone after that, might be worth starting a thread to get some of her thoughts.

I really think so much of this cannot be controlled through diet, and just leads to more sadness and frustration when we place anxiety on our diets, esp if you've struggled with that in the past, so my two cents is don't be hard on yourself---I've gone back to just eating what I want and I feel soooo much better. Another thing that helps with insulin resistance, which I think is prolly some factor in ANY hormonal issue, is taking a lot of fish oil (I know, more supplement advice), and obviously getting the hormones balanced and menstruating regularly. For me, I just can't do low carb diets, it makes me feel like i'm dying (sorry to all you diet obsessives out there) so instead of eating like, a bunch of carrot cake or cookies, i'll make whole wheat banana pancakes with maple syrup (and a lot of them). or something. so you're allowing yourself to eat carbs and sugar like the body wants and (i believe) needs, but you're not going to the opposite extreme of like 4 pieces of cake. okay please update us and I wish you all the very best, you will find a solution i know it.

ps-water kefir is AWESOME. it's a fun trial and error process in the beginning, i screwed up like four batches but once you drink it and eat the water kefir grains regularly, you will see positive changes in your stomach.

Day 57 - Week 8 - 50mg

Afternoon guys. So a wee update from me today. Also how are you's??

I have pics actually that I'd like to show you on this. I don't wanna upload them in my gallery - I upload waaay too many photos. I don't know if you looked at my photos or anything, but there was actually a comment left on one of my pictures and a woman had said she believes Spiro is NOT working for me, since I never had any chin acne prior to taking it and also it may be folliculitus. It kinda made me feel shitty you know. So yea.

Okay, Im feeling a wee bit better in myself. I have been quite active this week, we had a good day yesterday in Scotland (shock!) it was milder than usual so I went for a lovely jog. I would like to lose a few pounds. So here is hoping I can do it!

My skin is kinda pissing me off still which sucks, I will upload the photos in this post to show you what I am dealing with right now.

I am unsure about the Naturopath I was going to go with because I saw a review left on Googlemaps where a woman said it was a waste of her time & her money, since the company wanted her to purchase supplements from their WEBSITE but after telling the Naturopath that she was allergic to traces of milk and anything to do with milk, she noticed that the supplements she was told to purchase had milk derivatives or something...something relating to milk anyway. So yea I am now on the hunt for a better one smile.png

I am also thinknig about getting a colonic irregation, does anyone have an experiences with these at all? Or know anyone else who had success or no success with them? Ive heard mixed reviews about some people's acne improving afterwards and some actually worsening :/

ASLO!! I have got this Azelaic Acid cream again (Skinoren) to try. So I am going to be applying this nightly, I had some success last year but stopped after about 8 weeks due to impatience and just not wanting "chemicals" on my face. But I wanna try it.

Hope you's are all well lovelies!

Im so glad you can relate Kelseylee. Its hard because I don't know anyone who feels the same as me in real life you know...its totally comforting being on here. I always ALWAYS feel guilty after I drink alot, but Im only young (21) and there are times I do want a "blow-out" even if that is only once or twice a month. But is it actually worth it? I dunno.

Yes I really want to know this too and I am going to keep researching about the hormones unti lI acheive the answer. I found a study though about woman on Spiro over 3 months - half were on ONLY spiro and the other half were on BCP + SPIRO, and the former achieved a 65% clearance overall and the latter achieved an 85% clearance. So clearly BCP's are effective.

It is just so hard to chose to go on them because my natural period came back finally last April and if I went on a BCP I'd feel like I would be saying a big "fuck you mother nature" you know? lol. But my period is now 6 weeks late. Its safe to say Ive missed out on 2 periods since the 2nd of Feb - so clearly Spiro is affecting me in this way :/ but why???? I want to know.

So you had low levels BOTH of E and P...interesting. And you also found success with HIGH P and lower E. I have read alot of woman experiencing good good good success with HIGH E as opposed to P. Apparantly Estrogen makes woman "glow" - I don't know if this is true though lol.

Im actually glad to hear your are feeling good about your relaxed take on your diet. I know restricted/rigid diets can be a total pain. Since if you eat something "bad" you just feel so frigging guilty for it or even end up saying "fuck it" and just bingeing - like me.
I try my best to eat healthy but sometimes I do struggle, and I think its because of my whole history with anorexia, its like my body still has not grasped the fact that I am allowing myself to eat now, or it can eat now...so it is just reaching out for anything high sugar/carb (insulin resistant?) to store away basically incase the whole cycle starts again...that makes sense doesn't it??

Hi ladies!!

So my spiro got upped to 150mgs last week, and I have to say I think it's making a world of difference!! I'm also at 13 weeks, so I'm assuming that's helping too, but other than a two minor cysts this week, things have really calmed down!! If you're questioning whether to stay on it or not, I would suggest upping your dose if you can.

I was thinking a lot about the whole drinking thing this week because I'm going out this weekend for my birthday and I just kind of want to let loose. I'm curious to see how my body responds next week... I'll let you know.

Also, I've been doing some research into mario badescu products, because I've heard lots of good things about their buffering lotion--it's meant specifically for cysts! The best part is, the company will send you free samples of any of their products if you call and do a skin consultation with them. I figure it's worth a shot since all the reviews have been positive. Have any of you used the mario badescu products before??

Hope everyone is doing well... keep me updated on your progress!

Xoxo,

Theresa

I GOT A PERIOD TODAY!! Omgoodness. I am pretty darn chuffed right now. This is my FIRST period since being on Spiro, so thats like what..59 days in and my last period was the 2nd Feb which is 70 days ago, holyfuck.

You know what's weird though? This is the 12th of April and my period came back on the 12th April 2012..strange isn't it, or is it infact just another of life's little coincedenses :)

I actually have a date today, soon..and I'm freaking out. I am worried how he will react to my skin and things you know, obviously. I am actually petrified about it. But trying so hard not to think about it. I will let you know how it goes.

So glad you are feeling better Theresa! I don't know if my doctor would let me take 150mg, she is pretty cautious. I've still to tell her that Im taking 50mg lol.

Are you experiencing any other symptoms with such a high dose?

Day 60 - week 8 - 50mg -- Holy Bajeesus

Brace yourselves...

my skin looks good today. I am overwhelmed about it, mostly underneath my eye area on both sides is CLEAR and my cheeks are looking good. Even though I can still feel bumps on my cheeks, like maybe 6/7 on the right and 12/13 on left it looooks good. I have a redness/rosy tinge actually, maybe Im flustered? Maybe its the fact I have my period? I don't know. All I know my skin doesn't look bad at all, I guess its a good day with it today, I mean its faaar from perfect but it doesn't look as inflamed or anything you know?

Although I do have a bit more SMALL underskin bumps around my jaw area than I normally do. I also have a cyst at the corner of my mouth which is taking agessss to heal.

Just a quick update there to say that really AND also let you know that my date last night went well. He was a nice guy, we chatted and got on really well, made each other laugh etc...but I can't see us being anything more than friends. So Im still on the hunt for a man, and one that would accept all my flaws, especially my skin :)

Hey! Just wanted to post my experience with Spiro to encourage you. I have been on it for almost 9 months, and now it is an anomaly if I get even one pimple! Which if it does happen, is usually because of my period... I have struggled with cystic acne for 10 years, and this is the ONLY thing that helped. Now I'm only fighting the scarring and pigmentation left over.

I've posted some about my experience if you're interested. :) http://www.acne.org/...after-10-years/

The thing I've noticed about Spiro is that it's a roller coaster healing process for sure... but fortunately, the overall trend is up!
