Retin A And Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo

5 posts in this topic

Hi there. Im pretty new here and decided to join this site because I'm feeling very discouraged about my acne treatment. I started off using .05% retin a cream for about 2 months, and it started to clear me up, until I was about to get my period, where I broke out along ny jawline abd cheeks .so after that hapoened, I decided to start taking ortho tri cyclen lo. Im pretty sure my acne is hormonal a I only break out along my cheeks and jawline. ..I'm not going through a doctor or dermatologist as I cannot afford it..ive been on otho tri cyclen lo for about a month now...the first week, my skin started to clear up..however, the second week I started getting little zits all over my face..and they keep coming. What am I doing wrong?..my regimen has been the same for about three months now.

Am: cetaphil normal skin cleanser, neutrogena oil free spf 35 moisturizer and then my lancome mineral powder.

Pm: cetaphil cleanser, wait 20 minutes, then apply the retin a..

I apply the retin a every other night, as it is too harsh for me to apply everyday.

Has anyone had success with either the retin a .05% cream, the ortho tri cyclen lo pill or both? Please help!:/ Sorry for the typos, I'm using my cell to post.

Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo does not help acne very much. Its amount of estrogen is too low...hence the "Lo"...you need the original Ortho Tri Cyclen.

Even though im using the retin a?..ive heard that orth tri cyclen lo is better for acne because of the low dosage of hormones

I'm on ortho tri cyclen lo and I have a hate/love relationship with it because I break out hormonally. But I would consider to switch topical treatments. I was retin-a and it made my skin worse and I know that's what it's supposed to do for a couple weeks or even a month or two but I couldn't handle it. I was prescribed Epiduo gel and doxycycline to take and so far I like the Epiduo and I'm only using natural skin care stuff. But I haven't tried the antibiotics yet because insurance doesn't want to cover it -_- $4 prescription is now $180 because of hurricane sandy.
