Severe Side Effects Have Left Me Suicidal

60 posts in this topic

your doctor sounds like he is not helpful at all. I do believe you on these side effects because it DOES and CAN happen. I am so sorry you are going through this. Is there anyway you can see another doctor? who is more helpful? Any chance of you wanting to take this up in court ?

Regarding the facial atrophy, you can have fillers as well, some can be permanent. Are you forgoing any treatment for your side effects?

I empathize with you because the side effects of accutane are not kind.

i would suggest some vitamin D3 as well. Honestly it sounds you have tried many measures. I wouldn't be scared of facial fillers but i do understand your hesitation. BTW they have come out with stem cell injections, extracted from your own blood, that are injected into your face. My doctor calls it PRP Stem Cell therapy, its fairly new but its 100% natural and the purpose of it is to heal using your own body and when the area is injected, the number of fibroplasts (what makes the collagen) INCREASES. so you are increasing your fibroplasts and getting a boost in healing and collagen that is permanent. There was a segment last week on the news on how a doctor healed someones heart using stem cell therapy from their own tissue and the healing is remarkable. They use it on burn patients and i was amazed at how the scars heal with healthy plump tissue. I may consider having it done on my cheeks where i have acne marks. It works continuously to plump up the skin.

If i were you, i would really take this up in court - also, how come 1 year on accutane???????

Im going to make a video about my skin, hair and other side effects and I will post it or link it on here .

I have decided that I am pursuing legal action against both the prescribing dermatologist for negligence and Roche as well.

Im a fighter and I will not let this ruin me even if it does become my life story.

Thank you for your support.

I've thought about PRP - but the isotretenoin is also suspended in plasma so I'm very unsure it could possibly cause more damage ..

While I don't want to downplay your symptoms ( I'm sure you feel bad ) I really don't see what's wrong with your pictures. You look better than I do and I haven't taken Accutane. I also have thin skin on my hand ( one of the pictures you took ) and that doesn't look bad....some of us Caucasian females just have that. My hand looks identical to yours, unless that was a before picture.

Your skin looked really good in the before pictures, how come you were prescribed Accutane? I am going on a second dose of Accutane right now, but it's because I have the most severe acne I've ever had. I wouldn't take it if I had moderate acne, but it seems to be prescribed to a lot of people with just a few pimples. The pictures are grainy so it is hard to see things like dryness and you also appear to have more hair than I do. Was your doctor a derm or a GP? It's weird they would prescribe you 40mg for a year, I thought they only do that length of time with low dose Accutane. I think you should also include the doctor that prescribed you the Accutane in your lawsuit :/

Anyways, I hope you are able to find something to alleviate your symptoms. Have you tried Chinese traditional medicine (accupuncture, massage)?

I never used to scar and I'd go at my face like crazy. Now I will try so hard to wait like 2 months for a pimple to do its thing and it will leave a dent anyway :'(

I know the benzol peroxide and antibiotics caused most of this, and of course a major hormonal imbalance due to years of diane-35... Ugh only a few months ago I'd heal with maybe a fading red mark, but I dent now. I know it changed the way my skin heals(and texture). It's really the only thing I've done different.

I don't even want to know what I will look like 10-20 yr from now... I've lost my baby face, I'm 23, and last year people could hardly believe I was over 20, now I get mistaken for 30. Yea... Funny how fast sh*t went downhill. Can't stand running into people in daylight, or brightly lit places, and feel like now I have to work out 10x as hard and make 10x the money to compensate for my skin. I will never forget how i panicked the time i applied make up and for the first time in my life it made my face look way worse... I constantly think when people notice my skin they think I'm a junkie I've done hard drugs, etc and now I have to prove them wrong... Not thinking about dating although I'd love to, but the thought of waking up in the morning, sun shining, together at close proximity worries me...

Anyway that is my rant lol I hope u know u are not alone :)

I know exactly what livetoregret is saying. I took roaccutane in aus in 2005 for 6mnths. Im not sure if my dose was 80 or 60mg a day but whatever it was it destroyed my life. I had the usual side effects whilst on roaccutane but about a year after treatment the skin on my arms and legs started to be covered in a light dusting of dry skin and then shortly after the skin on my face started to become extremely dry. The texture and composition of my skin has completely changed, 8yrs later my skin, eyes, lips, sinuses and hair continue to get drier and drier. I have suffered a strange type of diffuse hair shedding and the remainder of my hair feels dead like straw. My acne wasnt even that bad to begin with. I just wish i was told about the true dangers of this poison. I have so many health problems because of roaccutane. Biggest mistake of my life.

I'm sorry to hear about your side effects, Livetoregret. I'm a little confused, were you put on Accutane for an entire 12 months on 40mg? Wishing you all the best and get well soon.

I took less than a week's worth of Accutane and developed persistent psychological and physical side effects. I am still trying to make it one day at a time and am so sorry you are also going through this pain. I had no idea I could even feel this much pain. None of us should have to go through this. The regret is almost as painful as the rest of it... Best of luck to you, and you're always welcome to PM me, although I can't promise I'll be an uplifting spirit. I can try

Im honestly the exact same person as you except that i experienced many side effects while on accutane and that led to my eventual stop of the drug before my course was supposed to be finished. The only difference is that while you are worried at 31, ive only just turned 21. I have fine lines forming all over my face, Im italian and all of a sudden this past year my skin has become super sun sensitive like that of someone with pale pale skin and freckles. My eyes too burn more than i can handle and my face and eyes are sunken in. My eyes are pale they are so thin and sunken. My once thick thick head of hair is ridiculous. Honestly when i think back to what i had i cant bare the thought. Of course people on here will tell you that you are crazy because the majority of them had either an excellent experience with the drug or have not even taken it.

People too tell me that i still look good, but even if i did, its not myself and i think that is what eats at us. Imagine how much better looking that person would think that i was if i had never taken accutane. If i still had thick hair and plump skin. If my body and hands weren't red and blotchy, and i could enjoy the summers just like everyone else.

Ive been to probably over 10 different doctors this past year and im searching for anything and everything possible that this could be. I do strongly believe that Accutane being a vitamin a analogue strongly affects the homeostasis of your body and if youd want to hear more about what i think about that i guess you could email me. It is terrible though I can barely stand the life that I now live let alone the life that has yet to come. What if accutane was never invented, what if i knew now what i know then. "What if" is a terrible world to live in, but i cant help but think of how drastically different my entire life would have been..

Goodluck with everything. I too am pursuing a lawsuit against accutane. Well i was prescibed a generic form but nonetheless.

Lastly, while i think most of it is just attributable to accutane and the many effects that it has on the body. There could be something systemically wrong with you. I would look into bowel or intestinal problems such as celiac, SIBO etc..

For the people with thin skin: is there any way you can send a pic of it abd such like before/after? Because i don't notice a difference in livetoregret except that she isn't wearing tons of make up

For those who've asked for before and after skin pictures...it's hard to demonstrate in photos. It's been six months for me, and to someone who isn't me it is subtle if not entirely unnoticeable. But I notice it by the week. It's just unnaturally rapid aging. I've got some folds in my hands I never had before this and I can feel that my eyelids and earlobes are extremely thin. My earlobes have been getting thinner since I took five 20 mg pills of Accutane in July. I have a ring that is a little looser. I can feel the bone structure in my face more simply because there is less padding. Those examples really are more compelling than any pictures I can share. In any case, more wrinkling is sure to follow.

Unless you've got disfiguring acne (and even then, proceed with caution....I don't know what to say for the most extreme cases), stay away from this shit. I was a lot prettier before I took the five pills. Your dermatologist will tell you that you'll be under close supervision and to call the office if you encounter any problems. Well, I called the derm's office five days in, and after five days it was too late.

If we can't see it I think it's just causing you an unnecessary amount of stress. I mean a lot of us people with acne have body dysmorphic disorder already so any tiny change seems extreme. I know that's the case for me. I mean, forgive my skepticism...I can see Accutane causing damage over months but five days?? Are you sure you just aren't panicked from the horror stories? For example I complain to people around me about so and so flaw, but then nobody notices it but me...which tells me it's quite minor to non existent....

I don't mean to be rude...the disbelief is just difficult. I wish everyone on this thread improved if not clear skin and good health.
