Hello, I've had this jaw acne for over three years without a clue how to make it go away. At first it only appeared on both sides of my jaws for a few days before going away for another few. Then it became more frequent until it just never went away.

Until about six months ago the acne on the left side went away, with a bump showing at least once a month. The right side though.. completely mutilated. A bunch of acne scars, permanent uneven skin tone, large painful bumps. There are five appearing at the moment, the number usually ranging from five to two.

I have tried changing the way I eat[healthy], I've tried acne/zip products[all drug store brand] and I'm just out of ideas. I hate that the right side of my jaw is in pain when I accidentally touch a pimple, it's embarrassing to try and hide, and make up does very little.

Before anyone suggests, there is no dermatologist in the territory I live in so I can not go for medical help. A friend had suggested I try birth control because it "did her wonders". Is it safe to take even though I am not sexually active?

I'm just getting so tired and emotionally drained over this, I'm not even excited to leave the house anymore. :\ Hope someone can help.

Honestly I don't know what to say. I'm going through the same but I'm on accutane now and it's working. You honestly should see a dermatologist. I know there isn't one in your area but you should tell your parents to take you to one in another city or something because only he will know what to do. Proactiv and all that is for the mildest acne that you can get. It won't help you at all. Just drink A LOT of water, that's all I know. Hope you get better soon.

Many derms prescribe certain types of birth control for acne. Not just "any" birth control, you'll need Yaz/Yasmin or a high estrogen pill. (Please do not take Ortho Tri Cyclen, a low estrogen pill, or a phasic pill, these will not help acne consistently). Though how you're going to get real birth control without a dermatologist...

If you want to try something legal, you can buy natural anti-androgen herbs. Saw palmetto, stinging nettle, and wild yam are your best bets. By muting your androgen receptors they can stop your acne.

Try Epsom salt mask/treatment once daily before you sleep it helps with the inflammation and brings out the heads on cysts and dries out the ones that is already out.

Speak to your GP. They will suggest birth control such as Dianette, Co-cyprindol or marvelon. These pills (same medication, different prand name) are both contraceptives and treatment for acne. It doesn't matter if you're sexually active or not. There are some side effects as there are with everything. I have the same type of acne it's very painful and seems to transform the profile of my jaw! I am on retina-gel and co-cyprindol to try and tackle my acne. Seems to be working!
