As a companion to the The Bad List. This contains products whose formulation does not contain a single ingredient that has a comedogenic ingredient of 3 or higher.

This is purely informational. I am not making any blanket statements concerning any particular product. Use this post to inform yourself. What you choose to slather on your face is your own business.

If any products change their formulation or if you have cross-checked a product yourself that you'd like to add, please let me know.

Green Gables,
Thanks for your efforts. I have come across a cleanser that I think could be added to the master non-comeodonic product list.

Both do contain ceteareth-20, which in the wrong formulation can be comedogenic.

My personal opinion is that the CeraVe formulators know what they are doing and you don't need to worry about those products. I have used them with no complaints. But I can't fairly add them to the 100% non-comedogenic list.

Thanks for putting all this work into this! I'm currently using Cetaphil, this is the first time I've tried it and it seems to work okay (after using it for a couple months now)... I don't think it's contributing anything to clearing my skin but it's not making it worse either. Now I just started on Retin-A and would like to have a good face wash. I think I'll try the CeraVe face wash since I love their moisturizing cream so much, plus it's on this list so why not.

Morning:

-Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser for all skin types
-Neutrogena Sensitive Skin sunblock spf 60+

Night:

-Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser for all skin types
-Wait 30 minutes, apply Retin-A .05% cream every third night
-After tretinoin, wait an hour or more and apply CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Supplements:

-NatureMade Fish Oil 1000mg (1X)

-Alive Women's Multivitamin (1X)

Diet:

-Doing whatever I can to eat as little dairy and sugar as possible

and incorporating more fruits and veggies; and absolutely NO coffee

for me as it's a huge trigger for my acne. NOT EASY FOR ME! Posted Image

So far, so good! Any improvement is a step in the right direction.

One question.. In the Master comedogenic ingredients list, it states that Sodium chloride (salt) is 5 : 0-3.. and in that initial list some of the products with sodium chloride are highlighted red for bad, and others were not that also contained sodium chloride... and then also, a number of these 100% Non-Comedogenic products have sodium chloride in them. So my question is, why do some products get a pass for having sodium chloride in them and others do not?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, Greengables has retired. I also noticed that the first product contains Cetearyl Alcohol which is mildly comedogenic in the master list (=2) and Dan gives it a 4 in his list (http://www.acne.org/acne-products-guide.html).
The list is pretty comprehensive anyhow so I think just go with your own instincts and avoid if necessary. I want to try and avoid the cetearyl alcohol so I'm not going to use the first product.

I also noticed that the first product contains Cetearyl Alcohol which is mildly comedogenic in the master list (=2) and Dan gives it a 4 in his list (http://www.acne.org/...ucts-guide.html).
The list is pretty comprehensive anyhow so I think just go with your own instincts and avoid if necessary. I want to try and avoid the cetearyl alcohol so I'm not going to use the first product.

Update on ingredients:

Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel

Aqua, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Sodium Chloride, Panthenol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Sodium Hydroxide

What about makeup without any of these ingredients? I'm going crazy trying to find liquid makeup that is non-comedogenic. I can't use powder based make-up because it makes my skin look very chalky.

 Current Regimen:
AM:

Olay Foaming Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

3 pumps CeraVe PM

Dan's BP (every other day) - pea size
Olay Age Defying Daily Lotion for Sensitive Skin, SPF15

True Match W4.5

 Night
Swipe with Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pad or Paula's Choice 2% BHA

Wait 10-30 minutes

Olay foaming cleanser for sensitive skin

w/ Clarisonic Mia Acne Brush head - 1 minute (every other day)

3 pumps CeraVe PM

Wait a few minutes

Tazorac -- pea size amount

Sodium chloride is generally only clogging if it is within the first three ingredients. If there is a product on the bad list that ONLY has sodium chloride as a clogging ingredient and it is not within the first three ingredients, let me know so I can update it.

"Squalene" is on the comedogenic list twice back to back with a 1 low score and also a high score in red at 3. Which do we think it is?
Thanks for any help.

Considering la roche posay facial fluid
Ingredients are:

Water, Squalane, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Carbomer, Ethylhexyloxyglycerin/Ethylhexylglycerin, Capryl Glycol/Caprylyl Glycol.

This study from 1989
"journal of the society of cosmetic chemists" suggests different scores for many listed as low scores on the other list, rated them high here. Did you use this study as well in your results? Just curious thanks so much

thanks for posting the list.

i hope people find it helpful.

but to all,not everything comedogenic is comedogenic for all and same goes for non-comedogenic ones too!

it's seen that everyone react differently.

but then, this list is what might help in general selection of products.
