I finished a 5 month course of accutane 4 & a half months ago, and every since, I've consistently had 1-4 tiny pimples on my face. It's really frustrating, as I really wanted clear skin :(

I had really bad cystic acne, and I did a pretty high dose (40, 60, 80, 80, 80). I took every last pill and wash my face twice a day and moisturize/spot treat. But, unfortunately, I don't have perfectly clear skin and it's really disappointing.

I asked my doc. about it about 2 months after my last pill, and he told me to wait 6 months before he decided to do anything. Currently, I have a pimple on the side of my nose, one on the other side as well, a small on on my chin & a small one in between my eyes.

It seems like it slowly is getting worse :(

I'm only a 16 year old guy, and I understand I'm a teenager, but it seems like accutane it supposed to clear you for good, which it never has for me. :(

In a month and a half, if I still have these few pimples and maybe more, do you think it would be appropriate to ask for a second course of accutane? I had so many side effects on it but it's worth it to me. The side effects I had were dry eyes/skin/nose, acheyness, and sometimes (I think two at max) darkened stools, which I talked to my doctor about and he said if they didn't stop then I should become worried. However, my body is completely back to it's pre-accutane state.

I just want my acne to go away, and with all of these so-called "80%" success rates, I feel like a fluke and I'm so disappointed :( I went through all of that and I just wanted clear skin..

Do you think a second course will even make a difference?

Please help!! <3

I think that due to your age and the fact that you are very much still in that hormone phase, taking another round of accutane could likely produce similar results. i would recommend finding an alternate means of treating your milder acne, maybe a retinoid, as soon as possible before it gets worse. Maybe also try diet changes and such (check out the holistic section of the boards)

Good Luck, keep your head up and keep us posted!

thanks for the reply!! yeah, my skin got even worse today -- another bump came up that looks like the worst one since I've been off.. /: this is really discouraging.

Do you think Differin .3% gel would be okay? I'm almost 4 months off... I have about 3 active spots and about 3 more tiny ones. They're not huge but they're definitely enough to get me down /: After accutane, I wasn't expecting any of this... Posted Image

Differin is the milderst retinoid so if your skin is sensitive, its a good place to start. If you think your skin can handle it, try tretionoin .25% or .05%

I know how you feel - been on accutane 3 times and acne is at its worse and i'm 29! Hoping you find something that works.
