... I'm gonna shove it up their butt.

Seriously. I'm glad to hear it worked for them and all. Great! But that doesn't mean it will work for me. I tried it many years ago and it was too rough and scratched my skin up.

And while I don't mind the friendly advice, its the fact that people look at my face the moment acne is brought up and just start saying what I should do.

Maybe its just a nasty side of me, which I don't like being, but even the sweetest people that say that to me always end up making me kinda mad. I'll let it go of course but its just....there are so many people throwing around what they do left and right and they don't have the same skin as me. Hell no one does.

Of course here I feel like its different. Everyones gone through that experience where someone looks at their face and says, " Looks like you have acne. Hey try _____! It worked great for me! " and seem to be more sensitive to it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who sometimes gets a little bit irritated. And even though I DO appreciate that they are just trying to help, it ends up making me feel really self conscious, because I try to forget that people notice.

I completely get it!!!! Trust me. People are like, "Oh you have bad skin. Didn't you try proactiv?" And alllll I want to do is punch them in the face. Proactiv is not some sort of cure all acne product like people think it is. They have NO clue how much work someone actually puts into trying to have clear skin. It truly is a science discovering what really works for you. They take it for granted and just assume you're not washing your face.

I guess I can honestly say I have never had someone say anything about my skin or suggest something to me. Maybe I see my skin worse than it is and people dont notice it, but ive never had anyone recently (since ive had my skin issues for the past 6 months) say or suggest anything to me. But I would get so irritated and offended if someone did say something or suggest something to me.

I could see why your pissed...I would be too.

Not to take anything away from you or your thread, but if no one EVER says anything to me about my skin, is it because its not as noticeable as I think it is?

I concur!

Whenever someone thoughtlessly offers flippant advice, I find that I have to consciously restrain myself.

I remember a long time ago some older guy came into my work and he says "get that taken care of, boy! you're a good looking young man, don't let that get out of hand" I wanted to be like "you have no idea what I go through 24/7 just to try and keep these terrible skin issues at bay!" Pissed me off so much. I guess he was just trying to be nice, but people who have never had acne are clueless in that respect.

Uggh I totally understand! I had several similar experiences a few months ago when my skin was at its worse. On one occasion, a co-worker asked me why I had such bad skin and suggested some things I could try. I wanted so badly to tell her that she was being rude and thoughtless and that I would never in a million years dream of going up to her and ask why she was so overweight and then suggest a few weight loss remedies she could try. But that would have been mean, so I bit my tongue. Instead I told her I preferred not to talk about my skin issues and thanked her for the suggestions (she apologized and never brought it up again).

But you know what? The funny thing is that if instead of acne, it had been some other ailment or injury she had asked about, I would not have reacted as angrily, I'm not sure what to make of that...

I know that feeling. Sooo annoying! I feel like people think acne is just a quick fix, and don't realize it takes time for the skin to heal itself.

I actually used Proactiv once when I was younger/didn't know any better (it actually kind of worked after 2 months, but that's another story). It dried out my skin a LOT the first few weeks and my skin had began producing more oil than usual. So I walked up to some of my friends and one of them just looks at me in shock and is like "Oh my god your skin is sooo oily! It looks almost wet!" and all I could do was mumble something about Proactiv drying my skin out and then going to a bathroom to pat my face. It was embarrassing to say the least!

I hate when people tell me to use Proactiv Posted Image I remember one day when I was in middle school (*shudder*) some girl yelled at me down the hallway, "You need some Proactiv!" I wanted to throw a rock at her face.

Yeah it use to irk me when friends or random people who NEVER had a single pimple would suggest you try Proactive. Like It's some type of magically cure or something. I had an older cousin who ordered me a couple boxes of proactive. I loved the gesture and thanked her, but It's so **** annoying hearing people rave about Proactive.

I had the biggest breakout of my life in may but before that my skin wasn't great and not one person ever commented on my skin when I used to be out and about people would look to the floor when I was approaching them as I have been told I'm quite intimidating :L evenback then I was so confident even with abit of acne but since that big breakout in may completely knocked my confidence still dealing with the horrendous breakout from may :( but if anyone did suggest something for my acne I would be highly offended and probably slap them lol :D
