This is an all time impossibility I'm afraid Posted Image

So it was my first day of school and I have a pretty bad breakout ( I have some updated pics in my gallery ) and it can be covered up with makeup BUT it takes so much to cover up that it all looks cakey. I mean for an hour its great but then... it just kinda goes through the day and near the end it just looked to dry and cakey for me.

I don't think its the makeup since I have been very pleased with it. I just know its the amount I put on. I put on a generous amount of foundation all over my face but while that evens out my skin, it doesn't hide the acne. So when I apply powder I apply it all around then pat around all over the areas that need to be covered which isn't a low number.

And trust me, it looks awesome the first hour. And I bring my powder along to touch up, but sooner or later it doesn't really help.

I know caking on makeup doesn't help the situation but my friends, who always say " Just don't wear makeup " don't understand how hard it is to walk out the door without it. Especially because i feel like I have the worst acne in my class.

Are there any tips that can help me cover my flaws without caking my face or making it dry after a while ( that wouldn't really involve me switching products. Like I said, its mostly the amount I use ).

PS thinking about buying some BB cream so when my skin does calm down and those big zits fade I can only wear a light cream with a little powder and maybe it won't be so cakey. But I can't do that with my skin so bad.

Thanks Posted Image

I hear a lot about using Milk of Magnesia as a primer. I don't remember much about it but I think people mainly use it for oily skin.

I always thought I had combo.

Oily around my nose and sometimes chin and then dry everywhere else.

Are you using a concealer? It sort of sounds like you arent when you talk about putting your makeup on. It also might be worth trying a setting spray to keep it all in place. Another option if it just drys out is a moisture spray, although I'm pretty sure a good setting spray will do both.

I'm really not that great with makeup so maybe this isn't the best advice - but I'll give my 2 cents worth anyway...
I always try to put a thin layer of foundation to even out my skin tone and hide most of the redness I get and then use a concealer on particular spots or PIH marks that are still really obvious. I'll then set it with a little powder.
When I do this it doesn't end up being full coverage - probably more of a medium coverage because that's how I prefer it for everyday wear - even though my skin is still quite bad.
Though you don't want to end up using too much concealer or that will look quite cakey too...
I guess it probably is due to the amount of product so you could just try experimenting with less and see what the coverage is like.

And if you don't mind me asking - what brand of foundation are you using? You said you've been pleased with it and I've been trying to find a good one that doesn't break me out..

I'm sure someone else will be of much more help! :P

I'd recommend using a concealer on the spots that need to be covered as opposed to using powder.

yea i kno what you mean. friends without skin problems find it hard to grasp the idea of skin insecurities.

about the dryness, try exfoliating gently, and once you moisturize, wait at least ten minutes before applying your makeup.

what kind of foundation are you using? if you use a small amount of a heavy coverage foundation, it'll reduce your need for concealer, which could help with the cakeyness. i apply foundation with the ELF studio powder brush, and it partners really well with liquid foundation.

you say your foundation doesn't stay for more than an hr rite? a good setting powder could help with that. i use a small amt of the ELF HD powder, and i think it makes a large difference in staying power, and believe me, i have really oily skin. nasty, unreasonable, hashbrown-ish, oily skin.

I also second what others have said with using concealer to cover up more.

You don't need a lot of foundation. Put on a thin layer, but don't feel like you need to cover up everything just with the foundation. That's what concealer is for.

Also, I saw that setting spray was mentioned. That is another good substitution so you don't have to use as much powder.
