Ultra Low-Dose Accutane Users, Help!

96 posts in this topic

I was taking 40 mg's a day every 4 days. I was on that regimen for about 8 months when I developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Some days this is much worse then acne, because you feel bloated, sick to the stomach, and get sharp pains a lot of the time, and unlike acne, I will have this my entire life. So just remember to be careful of Accutane. Just do a search online and you can find thousands of people that have had links to it developing severe stomach issues such as IBS, Crohns Disease, and Bowel / Colon Cancer. Be careful !!

Thank you for your concern, but keep this thread free of horror stories/warnings, there are various other threads/topics where they are welcome. Most of us understand that there are groups of people out there that experience issues -- issues that may or may not be caused by Accutane. However, the information in this thread needs to remain positive and on topic with low-dose Accutane, and the experiences associated with said doses.

Yea, you mentioned the experience with said dose, and that is what I am doing. To be quite honest most people don't know the risks. People just hear about IB's, dry lips, and possible thinning of hair. That is the LEAST of your worries. I use to hate to hear the horror stories as well because it was my life saver in many ways. It wasn't until I started feeing the way I do did I look around for the " horror stories". If I had read them beforehand, I probably never would of taken it. When it comes to Accutane and most prescription medicine, ignorance is bliss; please don't be that naive, do your research before you commit.

Hi all

I am 24, 85 kgs. I have had mild acne on my face since I was 15, but when I turned 18, I also started developing acne on my shoulders and back.

I always thought I would "grow out" of it but haven't yet. Anyway, I went and saw a dermatologist last week and he has recommended that I take Accutane. I haven't started it yet and I thought I would do some research as I am due to start it this week. I am a little scared of the side effects that can be present with Accutane espescially the hair loss one, or dry eyes!

Have you guys heard of a case or may be you have gone through it, where by accutane not only helps your face but also your body?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi again.

Thanks for the help.

I am going to be on 20 mg a day, as far as my research goes.. I haven't seen anyone develop severe side effects with that dosage.

Again, like I said in the post before, I am a little scared of the hair loss and depression.

As a past user of Accutane, What do you think?

hello, I wonder how long does it take for low dose roaccutane to clear up acne? I'm now taking 10 mg roaccutane daily. It's been a month and I still get acne, sometimes cystic acne. I only experienced the side effects though, dry lips and eczema on my back and my face. Do you guys wear sunblock while on accutane? I know that it's a must while on accutane, but i'm always having breakout after wearing sunblock.

I have not had any hair loss that is for sure. I also never experienced any depression while on the medication. However, like anyone will tell you, the medicine reacts differently with everyone. I guess your only comfort lies in the statistical evidence that there are more people who DO NOT experience the serious side effects than those who do.

If you are going to take Accutane and are worried about the side effects make sure that, in the case that they do occur, that the benefit of not having acne outweighs the cons. I can tell you that for myself, someone who has had minor generalized anxiety disorder and some OCD issues, I am unable to point any fingers at Accutane for making either of these issues worse. I don't know if that is of any consolation, though.

Believe me when I say that the Accutane is "working" even if your acne is still the same. The speed at which you can expect to see clearance is different for everyone, but the average amount of time seems to be anywhere from 2 to 4 months. At your current stages you should actually expect to see a purging or initial breakout of your acne as the drug settles into your system.

Do not lose sight of the finish line! The Accutane will work and once it does you will be amazed at how clear your face will look and how different your outlook on life is. As for right now, ride it out. It's nothing you haven't dealt with before, I'm sure.

Take care!

you'll experience the side effects in 2 weeks or more after taking accutane. until now, I still have 1 cystic acne and 2 papular acne. I don't know that the accutane is working or not, but I believe it's working even though it takes quite a long time (over a month and I still get acne). Do you use prescription topical drugs while on low dose accutane? I used differin before but my eczema got so bad that I've to stop it.

I have epiduo on my cupboard but i'm yet to use it. I used to use it with minocycline and i felt that it didn't help too much. And it would irritate my skin and i thought it left marks longer if i used it. To answer your previous question about sunscreen. Yes i defintely use it. I usually used to use sunscreen anyway. No harm in it smile.png
