Hey people of the forum! Posted Image

Well firstly I'd like to say , the acne look's a lot worse In person. Just my iPad's camera tends to want to hide smaller bumps on the face Posted Image

Anyways. I've been using standard Proactiv for about 1 and a half months now and that really does nothing at all. And about 2 week's ago my doctor prescribed me with Doxycycline. So yeah I've been using that for around 2 week's , and I've noticed my acne's gotten slightly more worse I don't know If that's classified as the "Initial Breakout" Or whatever people on here have been calling It. Would It be part of the "It get's worse before It gets better" saying? Because I want to stick to the Doxy , But would I stop using proactiv In conjunction with the doxy? Or ? Anyways could anyone provide me with some tips or what they would recommend for this type of acne? And would somebody be able to tell me what type of acne this is (like moderate or whatever) ? And If you've used doxy would you please share your story? Posted Image Thanks heaps guys!

Ps: Okay , so my left cheek (below) has the big pimples, then theres about 10-15 smaller bumps (that are visible to the naked eye)

And one last question. Girls , does this type of acne make me look un attractive?

Hey bud, I was on doxy a few years ago and if memory serves it took about two to three months before I saw results, and it did get a little worse before it got better. Just to give you my personal advice about proactive: I think it's trash. When I used it, it ruined my skin. Peeling, drying, insane redness...and just breakout after breakout on proactive. So I would recommend that you not use that with doxy. I'd suggest you talk with you derm about prescribing you a topical cream in conjunction with the doxy...like possibly Retin-A, Differin, or Epiduo. I think that would make for a more effective combination for you. And it looks kinda mildly moderate to me. When you get it cleared up, I don't think you'll have much scarring to worry about.

Thanks for the fast reply FlaggLives! :)

And thank's for the information. I might stop proactiv as soon as I get the chance to go back to the doctors. But If i do stop proactiv , how would I wash my face? just with a bar of soap and put the Retin A on after?

Well what I usually do is use only water when washing my face. Soap bars can sometimes be too harsh on your face and they can aggravate things even more, so just water and then gently patting your face dry with a towel would be the best bet. Then after you've washed your face, you would apply the Retin-A or whatever other topical cream before bed.

I agree with what Flagg has said about doxy, proactiv and getting a topical from your doctor.

I also used doxy a few years ago. It definitely took about 3 to 4 months for me to really see results from it. I was prescribed Duac once daily gel (a BP and clindamycin phosphate gel) to use along with the doxy. So I did see pretty good results from it while I used it but the results didn't last long for me unfortunately - and I continued using the Duac gel for a few months after that before switching to a different BP product. (Which I have stopped using now also).

I'd suggest a gentle cleanser, then the treatment, then a moisturiser. Pretty standard routine. I've never tried the water only method but it could be something that works great for you.
If you do decide to go with a cleanser, do some research into ingredients and such to try and find one that wont be irritating to your skin. (I think it's a good idea in general to do your own research into products that you use on your skin/for acne so you know what your using and can come to your own decision etc)

I'd also agree that it is probably on the milder side of moderate acne and no, I don't think it makes you unattractive. Good on you for posting photos to get help - I'm not at all confident enough to do that yet Posted Image

Good luck with it all!

Have you read Dr. Hyman's article about how milk and sugar cause acne? http://drhyman.com/b...gar-cause-acne/

Your face will get better bud trust me. You have moderate acne. You are lucky yours do not cause pitted scarring which means the marks left by your acne will eventually go away. You should avoid greasy food, milk, too much sugar and make sure you wash your face twice daily. First thing, you might want to invest in a mild cleanser (Cetaphil, spectro jel, ceravae). Next, stick with Doxy. It may seem that your acne is getting worse but it is actually because the doxy is bringing all of the dirt to the surface. In a few weeks or so, you will start seeing results. Acne takes time. After your acne clears, you will have to use a toner with salicylic acid to keep you clear and help fade your marks. Good luck.
