I have had moderate acne since I was 17 and I am now 19. My acne is pretty much under control but I am left with a bunch of acne scars, scarred pores and enlarged pores but only 2 of them are pitted and are very shallow. I have a shallow ice pick scar and a shallow tiny boxcar scar on my right cheek. I just want to know:

1. If the discolorations on those scars will fade in time?

2. Will my scars eventually blend in with the color of my skin?

3. Approximately how long will it take?

4. What treatments are necessary for those scars?

My ice pick is half a centimeter long. The boxcar scar is tiny, about 3 times the size of a pore. Again, both are shallow. I am currently on clindamycin/dilusol lotion and differin gel.

5. Will differin help treat the scars?

6. Should I consider TCA cross, chemical peels, needling etc?

Please reply to me. Have a great day everyone!

Discoloration will definitely fade but it takes a really long time. It's been 4 years for me and the redness is like 99% gone. I can't say for certain when the majority of it disappeared because every day I would fanatically check to see if any went away and I would be disappointed so eventually I told myself not to count the days. Some of the indents are still there though but as for redness, my face is paler than the moon =D

I have a few scars also... they are not pitted they are just red but yes they will most likely fade with time. i would go to the term and get it fixed, also there are many creams you can use. I would try something from estee lauder or clinique, it might be expensive but totally worth it! good luck! :)

A few went away but there is a lot left, but then again I had really severe acne with deep scars. The shallow ones I have are barely visible. The moderate to severe indents are very visible depending on the lighting angle. If yours are shallow, I wouldn't worry too much. I had a couple shallow ones on my chin and now no one can see them.

if yours are not pitted then they are not scars. They would go away completely in time. Those are just called post inflammatory hyper pigmentation. I had a few of those just a few months ago and most of them have faded about 60-70%. Exfoliate as much as you can.

You seem like you are not worried about them too much which is great! I wish I was like you. I just have a few and I worry way too much.

My scarring looks redder in certain lighting. If I look in my car rear-view for example, my scars don't appear to have any redness to them. If I look in bathroom mirror though, they definitely appear to have discoloration.

yup me too. When I look at my scars, I tend to look at them in mirror using just light from the sun and nothing else, then I see what mine's really look like.

Ask your Doctor about getting prescribed a topical Retinoid like Retin-A. It would be my first port of call for acne scars (especially pitted ones) as it stimulates collagen growth.
