Anybody else scared to eat chocolate? Or is it just me? Anybody feel like they break out more if they eat chocolate? My work has really good brownies and I hate the thought of what will happen to me and my acne if I eat one.

I eat chocolate, but not sugary desserts like brownies and hot fudge anymore (sadly). In my experience, food items with refined sugar and cow's milk have caused problems with my acne.

The type of chocolate I go for is in chocolate bar form with a high percentage of cacao. Gevalia makes a couple of bars like that. One is called Midnight Reverie, and it's very tasty. Paired with raspberries or strawberries and almond butter, it's a very satisfying dessert. I actually got the idea to eat the really dark chocolate bars with berries and almond butter here on acne.org, so I have to give credit where credit is due.

My advice is to really consider what is in the food you are about to consume. If the food is prepared by someone who is unaware of how it can affect one's acne, or gut health, then it probably isn't worth the risk of eating. Not fun advice to read, but I write from experience.

Hope this helped you.

It's probably not the chocolate itself that would break you out, if anything, it would be the sugar and other processed stuff in the bronwnies. Food Intolerances, if you have any, may affect your acne. Those intolerances are not always obvious or the main cause of acne. With that said, limit treats like that. Look into dietary changes as a first step in possibly helping your acne - if it doesn't help your acne, it will help your health.

Its probably just the sugar in the chocolate and not the chocolate itself. If your craving chocolate trying adding cocoa powder in stuff like drinks and foods. But I heard dutch processed cocoa powder can break some people out so you might want to watch out for that.

Try eating pure chocolate, no sugar. It is really bitter but tastes just enough like chocolate that it will cure you of a chocolate craving fast. I don't even want to see chocolate for a week after taking a bite of pure cacao.
