It makes me annoyed when I read statements such as:

"People who had higher sugar intake and a high glycemic load diet (more bread, rice, cereal, pasta, sugar, and flour products of all kinds) had significantly more acne."

or

"The dietary pimple producing culprits--diary and sugar (in all its blood sugar raising forms)--both cause spikes in certain pimple producing hormones."

The reason it makes me annoyed, is because I have a great passion for bodybuilding and many of the foods I eat and drink(whole grain bread, brown rice, brown pasta, whey and milk) are apparently what cause my spots!

Does anyone else here try to build muscle effectively and still manage to stay away from these foods?

EDIT: Oh look I found another quote:

"Delayed food allergies are among the most common causes of acne--foods like gluten, dairy, yeast, and eggs are common culprits and can be a problem if you have a leaky gut."

Now I cant eat eggs!?

Grrr. I went through a serious muscle-building/bulking phase at one point about two years ago and I'm convinced that it played a role in pretty much making my acne worse than it had been before. It's annoying, especially if you're skinny like me, but I think there may be some connection there.

You can still eat foods like organic chicken, organic grass feed beef and seafoods just make sure they are organic and clean. These foods contain lots of protein. There are also foods like quinoa which are very good sources of protein. You can also still eat grains such as whole wheat bread and brown rice just keep it to a minimum and look for the ones that do not have gluten in them because you might be allergic to gluten. You can still eat eggs but look for organic eggs that have omega 3s in them. Cows milk in america is not very good it is loaded with hormones antibiotics and loads of other crap it is also fed grains soy and other things which it is not meant to eat. And for some reason even if the cow is fed grass and not given any hormones or antibiotics consuming it for beef or consuming its milk is still detrimental to your health because many years ago the genes of the cows in North America the black and white spot ones only, mutated. That is probably why foreign countries wont dare to import our milk or cows. AN alternative to milk from cows is goat milk. Goat milk is not mucous forming like cows milk and most people tend to drink cows milk hence most companies tend to focus on cows and less on goats so it is less likely that goat milk will have hormones or antibiotics, regardless you should still consume organic goat milk and try to look for ones that are non pasteurized or not ultra pasteurized if you cannot find non pasteurized. Also if you want to take protein shakes I suggest you look for a good quality protein shake. You have to look at the ingredients. Dont pick up protein shakes that will guarantee you results or come up with a new form of protein. Stick to the basics look for normal whey protein concentrate not isolate. Make sure the whey comes atleast from grass fed cows and is organic. Also look at the ingredients to make sure there is no sugar or any other products that will hurt your health such as additives or preservatives or sugar. A good company will usually use raw honey or stevia as a sweetener. A protein shake i reccomend is Dr. Mercola's Miracle Whey. Also after your workouts try to consume more alkaline forming foods because when you workout your body tends to be more toxic because of the increased oxidation and causes more free radicals to be formed your body becomes very acidic which can aggravate your acne so I suggest you consume your protein shake right after your workout and then have a meal where you eat lots of meat with vegetables that are highly alkaline such as spinach etc.

Good Luck to You.

Maybe people just aren't meant to be serious athletes...

I'm not really a muscle builder persay but I'm in a prof. dance company which means I'm dancing about 4-6 hours straight 5 days a week. I would say...70% of the company has acne. A lot of exercise stimulates androgenic activity and DHT, which can cause acne.

I eat a low-sugar, dairy-free, moderate-carb diet and I still have to take an anti-androgen to keep my acne under control.

Weight training and muscle building means increased testosterone. Increased testosterone stimulates acne. Dietary changes cannot affect that basic equation.

The whole diet sometimes sounds ridiculous and impractical, but it works for some. It didn't work for me. If you wanna know what I am doing, PM me. And its not diet....

It could also be an increase in calories which as I've read can also cause breakouts (or so I've read).
