If a pimple comes to a head and you can see the white head, yes pop it. Don't use your fingers though. Get a sterile needle, prick the pimple if it has a white head and GENTLY get 2 tissues and squeeze them together until all the gunk is out. Put LIGHT pressure on the spot until it stops bleeding. Once it stops bleeding, apply some witch hazel directly on it. This will prevent scaring and help with it healing much faster than normal. Don't squeeze too hard. Only pop if you can easily get all the gunk out and DONT squeeze too hard.

Wow. That is just some HORRIBLE advice! It scares me to see you've been a member for two years, because that means you must have given other members some bad tips.

Your advice is wrong for two reasons. First of all you shouldn't ever squeeze a spot with just your fingers. Secondly you should immediately stop squeezing if the pimple starts bleeding.

What happens when you squeeze spots, is that you're destroying the surrounding tissue and you also run the risk of the pimple rupturing downward into your skin, which can cause further infection. And if that wasn't enough the spot will also tear open which gives a higher chance of scarring. What you want to do is get a sterile needle (dab it in some alcohol or hold it above a flame) and gently prick the whitehead. Then you want to wrap your fingertips in some toiletpaper (to keep the process sterile) grip the sides of your pimple and carefully but confidently squeeze (be careful not to use your fingernails!). If you find you have to exert a lot of force to make the pimple pop, the pimple isn't ready and you're only aggravating it. Whenever the pimple pops gently squeeze another couple of times and immediately stop if you see any blood or if it starts expelling a clear liquid. After you're done clean the blemish with some iodine (pretty sure there is something better to put on, but I cant recall the english word for it). The blemish is still going to ooze a bit of liquid, so you can just soak that up with a sheet of toiletpaper. After the oozing stops you can put on a mild topical anti-biotic if you like.

I honestly just forgot about mentioning pricking it with a sterile needle. My bad. Also toilet paper? Why toilet paper over tissue? I edited my post. And i never said squeeze a spot with just your fingers. I specifically mentioned using 2 tissues. Ive had many extractions done by an esthetician so I know how it is to be done correctly, I just worded my post wrong.

Honestly I popped nearly every pimple I've gotten since I was 13, I'm now 18 and I've still got acne and if anything the pimples I get are more troublesome and I've now decided seeing that I'm starting an antibiotic and a retinoid I'm not gonna pop another pimple I get. Tbh 'popping' or releasing whiteheads that are just on the surface and are nowhere near being under the over layer of skin won't do any real harm besides leaving a little red mark for a few days but any proper pustules... I wouldn't advise it. Not from my experiences. It might feel and seem better right after doing it but it's not the way to go in my opinion.

DON'T squeeze or pop your pimples at all. I know some on this site recommend carefully pricking the whitehead with a needle, and only pushing the white stuff out. However in my experience, everytime you squeeze, you are putting yourself at risk for even deeper scarring than if you had just left your pimple alone to begin with.

The worst scars I have are from forcing out white junk on my left cheek. If I had just left them alone, I would still have some indentations (scarring), like I do on my right cheek, but I would not have the craters I do now.

The type of acne you are describing sounds like cysts to me. Since you don't have pics published, it's hard to tell for sure, but your descriptions sound just like the type of acne I had when I got cystic acne. I recommend you get yourself to a derm ASAP and voice your concerns about the type of acne you're getting now while on medications, and focus on treating the acne you have currently to prevent yourself from getting new blemishes and scarring any further.
