Hello. I've been on the regimen for about 2 weeks now, and I really am liking what it is doing for my skin so far. However, I am having some issues. Whenever I finish the regimen, my face looks darker than my neck. The first couple of days it was just red, but then it just turned into a tan. In fact, I've been asked by several people if I had some sort of fake tan lotion on my face, haha. I did a little research, and most people said that the problem was the Benzoyl Peroxide gel. I use Dan's BP, and honestly it doesn't even burn my face very much any more. I had originally thought that the moisturizer was the cause of the redness, or perhaps the interaction between the BP and the moisturizer (As it burned the most after applying the moisturizer).

The main thing people were recomending was to use the BP only once a day. I've decided to put the regimen on only at night so I won't have to go the whole day with a fake tan on my face. Although, I do have some questions. In the mornings, should I use NOTHING AT ALL, or should I use the cleanser and the moisturizer and just skip the BP?

If anyone else has had this problem, please do comment. I need help here Posted Image

yeaaa i had that problem too when i was on the regimen! i actually started going tanning to help match the rest of the body with my face. bahha. it didn't work.

sorry i have no advice how to get rid of it. i ended up quitting the regimen, but i highly suggest you don't do that. as my face is a freaking nightmare now.

Okay, here's an update. This morning I did the regimen, except I didn't put any BP on. After cleansing, my face looked normal. However, after puting on the moisturizer, my face turned tan again. I'm considering switching moisturizers now. I've been using Dan's moisturizer the whole time i've been on the regimen, and it's always burned. The Benzoyl peroxide doesn't even burn that much at all anymore, even if I use a pretty good amount. The only good thing about not using the BP was that my face wasn't as flaky.

I'm going through the same thing.
I used benzoyl peroxide with great success through university and foolishly stopped when i became clear. Over the past couple of years i've tried restarting my own variation of the regimen but had become extremely sensitive to BP (redness, burning, swelling)...
This time around, i am using BP again w/ the assistance and monitoring of a dermatologist which kind of forced me to soldier through the burning stage (which, now 2 months in, is finally becoming only a mild stinging for 20 minutes to an hour after BP application...)
However, i do find that my face is darker than the rest of my body and neck and it really bothers me. As you said it's not redness (at least i dont think it is), but more like a tan that is relegated to my face.

Since i experienced so much irritation at first, im hoping that this 'tan' will also fade with prolonged use of BP.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having this problem. But still, even when I skip the Benzoyl Peroxide, and just cleanse and moisturize, my face starts to look tan. I'm going to try a different moisturizer for a little bit, see if it helps. I'll keep updating this if I find anything out. I may just end up dealing with it, lol. You really have to ask yourself, "Would you rather have a tan face, or a zit face?" haha.

haha, if I get a sunburn, my skin will eventually tan. I think it's the same process with the benzoyl peroxide. I feel like its initial contact with the skin gives it a mild chemical burn. just like with a sunburn, I think your "tan" will eventually fade as your skin gets accustomed to the benzoyl peroxide.

We'll keep eachother updated. When i used BP years ago, my face was, if i remember correctly, slightly lighter than the rest of my skin! however, at the time i had become so tolerant to BP that i never even had to moisturize (BP at night -- wake up and wash off with water)... so you could be right that it's the moisturizer adding some tint.

Anyhow today i am trying sunscreen instead of my moisturizer. I'll let you know how it goes *fingers crossed that it doesnt make me break out*

Best of luck. And I really hope it is just the moisturizer, because the BP is sooo helpful in getting rid of the acne. But yes, I always notice the tan after applying the moisturizer...and it burns a heck of a lot more than the BP >.<

I've been on the regimen for 5 years, and my face is definitely tanner than my neck; I do not use Dan's cleanser or moisturizer. In my experience, it's Dan's BP. I just remedy the problem with makeup because I love Dan's BP.

I feel like the BP is causing the tan, but the moisturizer is making it even worse. I use Dan's products for each step of the regimen, and whenever I put on the BP, there is a slightly noticeable tan, and then after I moisturizer my face just looks a lot darker than my neck. I'm going to try some different moisturizers and see if it helps at all. at the moment I have some of Dan's jojoba oil coming in the mail.

The reason i slightly suspect that you are experiencing irritation is because you've only been on the regimen for two weeks. Dry skin is darker than moist skin (kinda like a scab). Also, you are still experiencing burning so invariably your skin is agitated and possibly the redness could be a contributing factor.
If you don't mind me asking, what is your ethnicity/race? I am male with asian skin

I'm white. Pretty darn pale too. And you could be right, I am still pretty new to the regimen. But I feel like my skin is used to the BP already. I'm already using a pretty good amount and it doesn't even burn at all. The only thing that REALLY burns is the moisturizer..

In my case, it's definitely not dry skin causing the slight discoloration. It's the BP. I exfoliate using AHA as well as light manual exfoliation in the shower.

And if the moisturizer burns, then use a different moisturizer.

Hi,
I'm not really sure about the whole tan thing you're experiencing, but I know that the moisturizer does give my face a yellowy glow, and that you should definitely be careful of the sun, because BP definitely does make you burn easier, trust me, I know. And in the morning, yes, just use cleanser and moisturizer, it will make your skin feel more awake and less dull.

Okay. I've decided to just use the regimen only at night, and just rinse my face off with water in the mornings, since the cleanser and the moisturizer together seem to make my face look orange still. I will look into buying a different moisturizer, though.

so to update... i went to my derm yesterday, nothing out of the ordinary.
he said my face looked much better, but has me trying samples of Tactuo (in the US it's called Epiduo, a mix of adapalene/bp) for the next month hoping for a better result.
He said my face was a little dry, but didn't mention anything about my face being discolored... im quite worried about the Epiduo though since almost all reviews say that your face will get red/flaky/scaly... and i just went through all of that with the BP... i'll keep updating when i can.
