Hello. I don't come here much, but I have an account because I have a persistent mild to moderate acne problem.

I've been thinking about using a sulfate-free cleanser. I'm referring to cleansers without the popular sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate ingredients. In fact, I want a cleanser that is free of any detergents. Is anyone familiar with a cleanser without detergents? I've been looking into detergent-free soap like the original lye soap of the old school, but I haven't bought any yet. Has anyone ever tried lye soap?

"Soap" is your problem. You do not want "soap." Soap is even worse than liquid detergents, and there's a lot of discussion on this.

In reality, sulfates are a family of chemicals and should not be shunned all in one breath. It's unwise to say they are all bad (that's what a scientist might tell you).

I use a cleanser with sulfate and I don't have a problem. The concentration is generally low enough, designed for facial cleansing. But JUST as many people can't handle any type of synthetic detergent or surfactant. That's indicative of skin resiliency.

Anyway, I always recommend Garden of Wisdom. They have the largest selection of surfactant-free cleansers.
