Hi, I was recently on doxycyline for about a month and it was working well. Less breakouts and I had no side effects. I then went to a check up with my dermatologist and I told him that I am going to be in Florida for about a month. He then told me he would switch me to mino. My dosage would be 100mg once a day in the evening, that way my risk of sunburn would reduce. I then came home to do my research on mino and I have found lots of terrible side effects (skin pigmentation, issues with thyroid, dizzines, confusion, etc.), which have made me quite nervous. Especially the yeast infection side effect. I am going to start my Mino prescription while on vacation in Florida and it would be terrible to have side effects while there.

What is your dosage of mino? What side effects have you had while on mino? What do you recommend I do to keep myself healthy while on mino? My dermatologist said I will only be on mino for 2 months.

thanks for the help

I can't pass this by without saying something, I just can't. Antibiotics are only going to do you any good while you are on them. And while you are on them you are going to kill off the good bacteria in your gut, making your health problems even worse when you are taken off of them.

I can't tell you how many horror stories i've read where someone goes on minocycline and gets clear skin, but after they are taken off of it, the acne comes back, and worse than before. This will happen to you unless you miraculously outgrow your acne while on them.

Antibiotics should never be used for acne. You are doing nothing to boost your body's natural defenses by using them, and you aren't addressing the underlying issue as to why you have acne in the first place. This issue is different from person to person, and the difficult part is figuring out what is causing your acne. But it's so much more worth it to take the time to figure that out than get clear for a short period of time, only to have your acne come back.

Antibiotics do nothing to fix your body's long term ability to function properly. They are a temporary solution only

Antibiotics kept me clear for 18+ months but every time I would come off them it would come back. I took 200 mg per day of mino and had ZERO side affects. I drank like a fish and lived the college lifestyle with clear skin lol. I just started accutane though. Figured had to do it sooner or later. I tried to se if I wouls outgrow acne, and while I outgrew the little "teen" breakouts, my back and chin still had cysts. Mino won't heal acne per say but it will keep it under control for the duration of your course. Tons of people take it for years with no side affects. Just keep an eye out for side effects and youll be fine.
