Can I take a Weight gainer with Vitamin A 5000 I.U twice a day. So 10,000 I.U in a day while on 40mg/day Accutane ? I didn't start yet & was wondering if I can still take my weight gainer just for a month then stop taking it. I figure 40mg/day is a low dose but not sure. So ?

They say not to take anything with additional Vit A as it will further stress your liver. They put you on a low dose first to check your liver can tolerate it and you dont get any bad side effects on the medication...adding additional to this could cause your liver enzymes to be in an unaccpetable range and for them to take you off the drug.

Of course it is up to you if you want to risk it, but your Dr would say no.

Is 200 I.U/day extra Vitamin A alright ?

I really dont think an amount can be put on it as it depends how YOUR body is coping with YOUR prescribed amount of accutane, and how healthy YOUR liver is. Additionally I would imagine that some of the damage caused may only be seen a way down the line since it is a cumulative effect and you have no idea what that is going to be just from the Accutane yet.

I would simply do as the information sheets say and not take any. Ask your Dr and see how they react if you want confirmation of that. Accutane is a serious drug and you shouldnt really be thinking about playing with it outside the guidelines.
