Hi everyone,
This is my first message board post here. I'm starting accutane, and I guess I'm looking for some encouragement/advice.
I've had acne since I was about 13, but over the years its gotten increasingly worse. At this point, I have acne covering probably 90% of my face: whiteheads all across my forehead and temples, and papules (I think that's the right term -- they're raised bumps that are entirely under my skin) across my cheeks and chin. I also get acne on my neck, chest, and back.
It's horrible, painful, and really demoralizing. It's gotten to the point that I won't so much as walk around my neighborhood without makeup to try to mask all my horrible acne/scars, and I've started to reconsider even spending time with friends or going out in public because I'm so embarrassed.
I really need this accutane to work. I've tried topical stuff, antibiotics, and the pill with no avail. I started yesterday, and I really want to have no more active breakouts by the fall when I go to college (I don't know if that's realistic, but I can hope). I'm starting on 20 mg because of my low weight, and because my dermatologist thinks a low dose might prevent the initial "it gets worse before it gets better" phase.
So, does anyone have any encouragement or advice? I would really appreciate any responses since this isn't really something I feel comfortable talking about with friends.
P.S- Has anyone worn contacts while on accutane? I'm going to try to wear my glasses full time this summer, but I'd like to transition back to contacts in the fall. Thanks!

hi,
I've been on accutane 20mg now for 2 months and I'm getting bumped up to 30mg.
For me, the first 3 to 4 weeks were bad, i broke out a lot and and was exhausted and was getting headaches. However the tiredness and headaches have gone down.. my skin is still breaking out but not as frequent.. i was told to just be patient and wait because accutane will work for you, its only a matter of time.

Hey welcome to the boards! Congratulations on starting accutane! I am on my 4th month and finally seeing results I started at 40 mg and am now at 60 mg. it's a tough process at times so remember to keep positive and take good care of yourself. Take it easy, I pretty much baby myself. Remember SPF while your outside otherwise you will get a bad burn. Aquaphor aquaphor for your lips. It will become your best friend! Let me know if u have questions or need to talk. Just message me or something.

Thank you both! I'm now on my about 10 days into my second month and still breaking out/not seeing any results. I was really hoping my skin would be better by the time I go to college, which is now less than a month away, but that doesn't seem possible anymore.
