YAY I'm starting with Accutane. Like everyone else here I've tried pretty much absolutely everything and I've arrived at the decision of taking this. I've stalked these logs looking to see whether or not it would be an option for me as well as reading the literature and I'm going to give it a try.

I'm 20 and female. My 'problem areas' are mainly around my chin and forehead and I get groups of pustules that hang around for ages and more recently I was getting hard deep lumps at the bottom of my chin which I think were the beginning of my acne getting a lot worse and I was also picking up small scars in the last few months. Both of these added to my desperation. I've uploaded an edited photo of my face, it was taken awhile ago but it looks pretty much the same except the forehead is way worse now Posted Image The photo doesn't do it justice at all it's so much worse in real life, all the red marks have been erased and each of those red dots was so bad and sore under my skin. Hurts to move my mouth sometimes when it gets bad.

Stuff I've tried:
Topical retinoids
Antibiotics
BCP
Omega 3
Vegetarianism, veganism, no dairy
Copious amounts of water
Various OTC facewashes and treatments
Green tea
Time (I've had it 8 years or so)
Probably a load of other stupid ideas I've forgotten, basically I've tried it all.

Starting dose is 20mg and I've just taken my second dose. No side effects yet but I'm getting a head start with the lip balm.

Welcome to the forums!

My chin used to be my biggest issue, too. So frustrating! I think Accutane will clear up your skin nicely though. Hopefully starting on such a low dose will prevent a bad initial breakout or any major side effects.

Just remember that it might get worse before it gets better, but it's important to stay positive and keep going! You WILL have flawless skin when you're done!

Good luck! :)

How long were you on BCP and what kind? Hormonal treatments generally work the best for chin acne, but you have to get the right kind of pill (higher estrogen) and you have to give it at least a year. I hope Accutane works for you, but realize that Accutane works by drying out your skin 10x (like a SUPER STRONG retinoid). If your acne is mainly hormonal the effects will be short-lived.

Thanks Green Gables I've been on various brands of pills for the past 4 years with little success so I think I've given that avenue a fair run =[.
