I have mild to moderate acne (it used to be severe). My dermatologist prescribed Aczone and Solodyn and they both have helped me a lot, but I have tons of clogged pores on my face (which is better than red and inflamed skin, so I won't gripe about that) and I'm suffering from body acne (Aczone doesn't make my body acne budge). I'm wondering if Tazorac might work.

I have combination/oily skin and I am seeing my dermatologist next Monday for a follow-up

Tazorac was the only topical that gave me results that lasted. i had a really oily face and not so much anymore. tazorac is a great cream but you have to use it properly. if you start at .1% be prepared man because its pretty potent stuff. youll get red, irritated, flake, break out like crazy, and feel dry as hell. see for my experience i was breaking out so much as it was i diddnt know if i had an initial break out or not because i was already comming up with new pimples daily anyway so there wasnt really a difference but i flaked like crazy.

if i could do it over again id get a ton of moistourizer and put it on first before i apply the taz and get a really good sunscreen. otherwise i think its the best topical you can get imo.

I use it and it does appear to work, but it is a scary process. If I had started at severe like you, I might be hesitant to jump into something that will likely make you look pretty bad for awhile. Can you do some OTC acids like salicylic acid or glycolic acid first? They do a good job of cleaning out pores and smoothing skin without making you peel sting and purge. I like Paula's Choice products. You could use them with your current meds and it likely wouldn't hurt. Then maybe that would be enough and you wouldn't have to go through the yuck of a retinoid. I am two months into Tazorac and it does appear to work, but I started with mild-moderate and have still been pretty ugly.

Thanks for the input. I still may end up asking for it for my body acne (since that will be pretty easy to cover up and the skin on my body is pretty tough)

I did try using salicylic acid for my clogged pores but it doesn't seem to do anything for me. I've never tried glycolic acid, but I'll look into it.

Azelex is also good for pores and dark marks but is Rx only. It should not cause purging. The Tazorac works, but it is not fun.
