Ok, so I've been hearing about how amazing BB cream is but I don't really understand what it is? Concealer? Primer? Foundation? Moisturizer? Posted Image

I have REALLY oily skin so I'm looking for something new to cover up my old red marks. Should I give this a go? Also, if it isn't enough to cover red marks can this be used in conjunction with a foundation? Should I use my normal moisturizer or do I not need it since it claims to give you super soft skin? Confusing stuff, lol.

Thoughts? Thanks for any info. Posted Image

It's supposed to be "healthy" kind of like a moisturizer, and give light-medium coverage. I think it could easily be used with a heavier foundation, or with just some spot concealing. I looked into BB Cream for a LONG time once, and almost bought some - but I ended up going with my mineral makeup (only 3 ingredients!) which I absolutely LOVE!

But yeah, from what I hear BB Cream is great stuff Posted Image You're trading a little bit less coverage compared to foundation, but it's better for your skin - still not good, but definitely better than foundation.

P.S. After like 7 bajillion hours of research, I think Skin79 BB Cream in the pink bottle is the best Posted Image I read hundreds of reviews...it was ridiculous! Haha Posted Image

P.P.S How long did it take you to get clear after starting to use the Olay Spin Brush? I bought one about a month ago after I read your signature and some other posts about it :) So far I LOVE it, although I'm obviously not 100% clear :P

A BB cream is supposed to be a moisturizer, primer, foundation, and sunscreen all in one. Apparently BB creams are supposed to be really good for your skin as well as make it look really good. I'm kind of torn on this product. On one hand, it's easy to use and it probably has some skin benefits. On the other, I don't think it should replace a good skin care regimen, and it probably won't have that great of coverage for those of us who suffer from skin problems like acne. Since you have oily skin, you probably won't get what you're looking for in regards to coverage because it won't last very long. This is why I never tried this product, though it was very tempting. I think it would be a good idea to get a tester or buy a BB cream from a makeup store where you can return it and try it out on a weekend when you aren't going to be out. This way you can see how it looks and feels, and then decide if it's worth using. It definitely seems like a nice product, but like anything, it's not always going to be THE product for everyone. Good luck!

i was just going to post a thread on this. lol. i was wondering what everyone's favorite BB cream was. too faced has some pretty good reviews n so does mac. i really like that mac has a higher SPF. might try it for the summer.

i think if u use a bb cream along with a foundation it might feel heavy. it's marketed as also being a skin treatment, along with giving some coverage. from what i've heard, bb creams are best applied with a brush. i'm curious to know if it really does even out skin tone over time.

BB creams are similar to tinted moisturizers, in my opinion. However, many have various benefits tinted moisturisers do not have (anti-aging ingredients, high SPF, whitening, brightening, etc). You should not use BB cream in place of a skin care routine- for example moisturiser. BB creams provide a light to medium coverage and if you require more coverage over certain problem areas it is fine to use a concealer in conjunction.

I love BB creams! I'm currently using the Skin:79 one in the pink tin. It gives light/medium coverage, takes the kick out of my red marks but I do still have to spot conceal. After I've worn it for a few hours & take it off my skin look AWESOME. (around all the bad bits haha) I'm not sure about the color of it tbh, the Skin 79 has only one shade, so it's more for people with fair/pale skin. I do prefer it to my foundation for now. Only been using it a week or two. Doesn't seem to be casuing any breakouts thus far. After I use my two tins I might have to look elsewhere for BB creams as it's expensive to ship to the UK. But to sum up, I love the idea of them and will continue to use for sure :)

Thanks for the info!! I think I'm going to check out the Skin79 BB Cream. This stuff sounds pretty good. As for my skin using the Olay Spin Brush, I started to see results within the first week, but it took about 2 months to have no active acne. For someone who has been suffering with acne for 12 years, I couldn't believe THIS was my solution Posted Image . I've tried everything, including expensive prescriptions and medication. After doing research I think my problem was that my skin cells weren't sloughing off my face fast enough causing clogged pores causing pimples. I just needed that extra oomph from the brush. Make sure you change the brush head about every 3 months. I used mine for like 5 and started breaking out again. As soon as I changed it everything was fine again. I still get the occassional zit, but nothing like it was. I'm just dealing with the leftover red marks which I'm using TCA peels to treat. Good luck to you!!!! Posted Image

I used a Skin79 BB Cream for a few months. I really liked the coverage and finish (lightweight and dewy, covered red marks) but the one I used (Dream Girls, not the pink container) contained irritating fragrance oils and my skin started to break out in unusual places (for me) so I had to give it up.
I didn't like any of the versions I tried at Sephora (Smashbox, Clinique, Dr. Jart etc.).
I used to think that the coverage I got with the BB Cream was different from that of tinted moisturizer, but now I'm using the Laura Mercier TM and I'm very pleased, so I don't know.
I think the marketing in the US for BB Creams (a panacea for your skin ills) is just part of selling the newest beauty trend, which obviously is the truth with most cosmetics. :) I'd definitely say it's comparable to a tinted moisturizer, and just try it out and see what you think.

I also use the Skin79 pink bottle BB cream. I am between a light to medium skin tone (Fiji in NARS). I think BB cream has a medium coverage for the one I was using. It is a bit grey at first though. BB cream was first invented for people who just had "work done" on their face such as chemical peel, or even cosmetic surgery. It is used to cover the scar and provide some coverage but not inhibiting the healing. I stumbled onto the Skin79 one and it was my first BB cream (I am so lucky!). I have used some other Asian BB creams and they are all pretty similar. I also have the Maybelline one.

ps i am starting the regiment next week. I will see if BB ceam works with the regiment for me.

The BB creams that have been introduced in the US are not the same as the original BB creams developed for the Asian markets. The BB creams in the US are basically glorified tinted moisturizers.

This is so true. The U.S BB creams arnt really that good (atleast not the ones I'v tried) The ones from Korea are awesome. I use the Misha perfect cover one sometimes when I dont really want to wear make up and it has awesome coverage but feels like lotion. Its really good, you can get it on their site, Amazon or Ebay.

I've never tried them yet, but when I looked into them it seemed that most were filled with the same chemical crap that other mainstream products are. For example, check out the ingredients list on this one by Smashbox:

"Water, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Trioctyldodecyl Citrate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Peg-40 Stearate, Polyglyceryl-10 Pentastearate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Extract, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract (Extrait D'Orge), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Trehalose, Oryzanol, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Urea, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Propylene Glycol Laurate, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sucrose, Glycerin, Sodium Stearoyl Lacylate, Caffeine, Linoleic Acid, Cholesterol, Lecithin, Squalane, Sodium PCA, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Propylene Glycol Stearate, Stearic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Sorbitan Laurate, Xanthan Gum, Aluminum Hydroxide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Silica, Disodium EDTA, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol [+/- Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)] ."

Not only is it full of chemical crap, but it has both wheat and barley, which would mess with any gluten sensitive acne sufferers.

You're so much better off taking care of your skin through more natural means.

I've used a couple of BB creams. I've tried samples of Lioele Beyond the Solution, Missha Perfect Cover, and Skin79 in both the hot pink and gold labels. the Lioele was way too dark for my fair skin, plus it made it look really oily. but then again, I think I may have used too much, which would contribute to both of those problems. the Skin79 gold label BB is meant for dry skin, so it would come off my face in a few hours as I have oily skin (though lately it's been dry ever since I started the Regimen). Skin79 hot pink label and Missha Perfect Cover (I use shade #13) are great! I also have a full-size tube of Holika Holika Petit Clearing BB and that's very good too, although thicker than the other BB creams I've used, so I need to be careful with it.

Ugh...agreed!! Dimethicone makes my face a disaster in small quanities and it's the second ingredient here. Thanks for posting this. NO thanks to that product!!!

Arggggg don't get pulled into the hype with BB creams.

I bought a BB cream from skin79...it was labeled "Super + BB cream gold label"

That BB didn’t make my acne worse but it didn’t help it one bit either.
If you suffer from acne like I do, try not to stray from your skincare and usual foundation due to hype with other products. I bought this way before American bb creams came out so I didn’t jump into the band wagon. I bought this because I was pulled into the advertisement of the brightening effect – clearing up discoloration and what not.
For people with acne, stick to treating your acne first. Once you’re able to keep it at bay then it should be okay to move onto products that improve skin tone/texture such as bb creams.

I’m sure if my skin were to ever stop breaking out I’ll take a look at BB creams but until then I’m sticking to my MUFE foundation.

TLDR?
BB creams = good for minimal problematic skin. Not ideal for anyone with skin problems like eczema/hormonal acne.

I heard many good things. They are very popular in Korea. Explains their flawless skin. However I don't believe its this magical coverup or anything like that. Just a tinted moisturizer mostly that does its job well. I would get it for those days were my skin is pretty clear as to not ruin it with heavy makeup :)

I plan on purchasing a small bb cream just for that but still rely on foundation for most days. But I would assume that if your skin is clearing, using a lighter product would be best.

This was really helpful to me, especially as someone with fair skin, too! Did you find that any of them made you break out? I've been sucked into the hype of BB cream but have yet to try it for fear of acne returning (I'm only recently all-cleared)
