I wanted to post this topic as I've searched many places and can't seem to find an answer on it, and everyone on acne.org seem to have a lot more knowledge on such topics!!
I have been on Differin since mid-January, and I was fortunately one of the lucky few who did not have much of an initial breakout! Just a few tiny spots. A bit of history:
For the last few years I've had bad nodulocystic acne, which was incredibly painful - tried everything OTC but nothing worked, even tried homeopathy which I think helped a little bit!
In mid-Jan, I started on Differin, quite sparingly in the first week then every day after that - in the last few months, I have only had one cyst come up in the whole of that time, which is a MAAASSIVE improvement from getting 4/5 cysts every three days! However, I'm now in the fourth month of Differin, and I suddenly had a hugeee nodule/cyst appear overnight!! It was massive! And definitely bigger than the one I had in the initial breakout! It has lasted over a week, whereas the one a few months ago went within 3 days after using more Differin on that spot.
My question is, is this another initial breakout?!?! I went back to my doctor who said to not use differin on that spot, and leave it - but I've used everything I have in the cupboard to try and get it to go down in size and redness!! Tea tree oil, Calendula oil, Freederm, Oil of Wintergreen cream, and Differin because I believed it would make the spot better like last time.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm at my wit's end with this huge nodule on my cheek! Should I be getting another initial breakout after being on Differin for this long?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that Differin made my acne wayyyyy better! My skin was clear all this time after the first initial cyst in the first month!
