I honestly think we'll be fine as long as we take care of ourselves. We all have dermatologists checking our blood monthly, so that'll let us know if something starts to go wrong. We just have to pay attention to our bodies!

And speaking of which... What supplements are you all taking? I didn't discuss this with my derm, but I meant to. I'd like to take the essentials though so I know I'm staying healthy.

I'm just taking the biotin (freaked out about any hair loss) and fish oil (to help combat any sore joints and help with inflammation). I think I saw someone mention milk thistle (Ginanutrition maybe?) for the liver. I am thinking about taking that because I do drink wine moderately and I'm not changing that for the first month to see how my liver does. I do drink a lot of green tea which is supposed to help the liver also, we'll see in a few weeks when I go back to the derm.

- multivitamin

- fish oil

- acidophilus

- milk thistle

- omega 7

Whew! I've always been big on taking vitamins and supplements, though.

How much milk thistle do you take? I read somewhere you should take 200mg?

I take one pill of 150mg a day. Got a 200-pack on Amazon for probably $15 or so.

Tiger 1 - Thanks!

I've read a lot of people mentioning milk thistle. Sounds like it would be good to take since Accutane can potentially impact the liver. I don't drink at all though, so I'm not too worried about it... I'll definitely be picking up a few vitamins to take.

Hey! I'm glad you're finally about to get started! iPledge is seriously the worst crap ever. Did you end up getting all sorts of products in preparation for this journey (seriously, I love just comparing beauty loot!)?

I'm so excited! iPledge is definitely going to be annoying!

I bought a few things to use while on Accutane. I didn't have a moisturizer that would suffice, so I bought CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. Most products make my face break out, so I did a couple spot tests with the CeraVe cream and it seems to be fine. For a body moisturizer I bought an Olay in-shower lotion that someone on this forum mentioned. I also bought some Neosporin to help heal the zits that I'll inevitably get. I have Aquaphor and Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm in Vanilla & Lavender for my lips.

I've been using Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash, Neutrogena's Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 50 Purescreen, and Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula Hand Cream for years, so I'm going to continue using them. The only thing I might have to switch is my cleanser if I find it to be drying, but I'll see!

Congratssss! biggrin.png

Thanks, Taylor! smile.pngSo happy to finally be starting!

Do you like the Neutrogena PureScreen Spf 50? Is it thick and whitening? I have such a problem with sunscreens because the ones I do like are often only spf 15 and then I need something for when I'm out hiking/boating/sporting in the summer, but they all suck. I was told by my dermatologist to try to wear about spf 15 on most days while taking isotretinoin.

I was thinking of trying the Kiss My Face Spf 30 face sunscreen because it caught my eye in the drugstore, and it's not as expensive as La Roche Posay, but you get nice antioxidants and moisture. Otherwise I might try that Cerave AM everyone keeps praising, but I'm scared cause I broke out from Cerave before, like you!

Green tea is great for your liver, as are most vegetables. My liver support supplement has 150 mg of milk thistle, along with 150 mg of artichoke leaf extract and 150 mg of curcumin from turmeric.

Day 2

Nothing major to report. My left collarbone has been itching off and on today. Overall I've felt itchier than usual. Quite annoying! I'm not experiencing any dryness yet, but I'm sure the itchiness is a sign it's coming soon. I'm also developing a zit along my hairline.

I had a very minor headache this evening. I'm also super tired tonight. I'm probably going to pass out shortly, which isn't normal for me since I'm usually up until midnight at least.

On an unrelated note... My family and I got a second dog tonight. Yay! smile.png

I love the Neutrogena moisturizer! I've been using it for a long time. The regular kind makes me break out though, so I can only use the Purescreen one. It's not thick, but it is whitening (for me, at least). It isn't really moisturizing though. My skin doesn't usually get dry, so it has been fine before Accutane. However, I'm sure once I start experiencing dryness, it won't be enough of a moisturizer. I do plan to continue using it though since I'll still need sun protection. I'll just be relying on another moisturizer to help with the dryness in the morning. Probably the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream since that's what I have right now.

The Kiss My Face sunscreen sounds great since it has antioxidants. Let me know how it is if you get it! I haven't tried CeraVe AM, but I'm hesitant to use their moisturizers because of the previous breakouts. Fortunately, their cream seems to be fine for my skin. I hope you can find something!

On the first one or two days, I got minor headaches as well. I don't get them anymore though. Also got the same itchy spots on my body, especially after getting out of a hot shower. They're basically gone now, too. Hopefully it's just the initial adjustment!

I also got headaches within the first month and itchiness (I could not stop itching my damn scalp), but I haven't had any headaches recently & my scalp feels great. My hair even feels like it's in better condition? Maybe that's just me though!

That's good to hear! Fortunately, the headache wasn't bad at all. But I definitely felt itchier than usual yesterday! I wasn't sure if it was a side effect or I was just imagining things. Haha!

Same here, I had headache for my first week I'd say. They just went away one day. Funny you say that you think your hair is better condition, I was thinking the same thing about mine. I am giving the credit to the biotin I am taking though, maybe it helps that we don't need to wash our hair daily anymore too?

You're probably right! I've only been washing it twice a week & it feels so silky and not as knotty as it would be if I wasn't on 'tane.

Also I notice when I put my hair up in a pony or bun or whatever it doesn't kink up like it used to. Before tane if input my hair up you could see everywhere the binder touched in my hair and I can put my air up all day and take it down in the evening and it's still straight. I love that!!

That's probably it! I've always read it's best to not wash your hair daily, but it's hard not to when it gets so greasy looking! I can't wait until my scalp dries out and I don't have to wash my hair every day. That'll definitely be nice.

I can't wait to have awesome hair that still stays straight after keeping it up in a bun! I couldn't possibly go for a day without washing my hair in the past... it would seriously be matted down to my head and look disgusting. My scalp is probably 60% less greasy now and I'm waiting for it to dry out even more!

I can go like 4 days without washing my hair. Its nasty, but I tried it because I just wanted to know. I still took baths and all that, Im no nasty, dirty person. The only reason I actually needed to wash my hair is because I went out the night before to a concert and needed to wash the hair spray out. But at that point I still had to greasy and it didn't smell lol weird. I wouldn't mind this "side effect' staying around lol

Day 3

Holy crap, I am SO tired today. sleep.pngI mean, come on! It's day three and I'm only on 40mg! Lol.

I have another headache again. Fortunately, the headaches have been mild, so they're not bothersome. However, I only feel this one on the left side of my head in the front and it extends down to my temple. It concerns me since my derm told me to contact him if I have any headaches. But maybe it's just a sinus headache because the left side of my nose is stuffy and I feel it in my left eye. That must be it.

As far as my skin goes... The acne I had pre-'tane is healing slowly, but it's healing. I don't have any new spots other than the one that started popping up along my hairline yesterday.

My dermatologist said the headaches you get from Accutane and are bad headaches come and get worse. They never go away or get better it you are taking the medicine still. So it's good news that yours are able to go away with medicine.

Yikes! Well, I'm glad they haven't been anything terrible.

I haven't taken any kind of pain reliever for them. The one I had yesterday didn't stick around long, but I guess this one must just be sinus since I feel it in my nose. All my derm said is to let him know if I have more headaches than I normally do. And I never have headaches!

I never get headaches either! I never really appreciate this fact until after I get a really bad one from either being sick or hungover. Can't imagine the people who get constant migraines... that's freaking horrible.

I could never deal with constant migraines! That must be awful. My best friend would actually get numerous migraines a week. She has to take SO much medication, but she gets less now. I think she still gets about one a week though.

I'm just glad these headaches are nothing major. I did look through the information in my Claravis box that said bad headaches can be a sign of increased pressure on the brain. So, I won't get too concerned unless the headaches get bad. Although, I mentioned it to my mom and she freaked!

Definitely need to start drinking more water though!

I would say if you're not a huge water drinker, an easier way might be to eat a ton of fruit. I'm always eating mangoes, kiwis, pineapple, etc. Lots of vitamins plus liquids :)

Day 4

Nothing to really say about today. There were a few times when I felt like I was getting another headache, but nothing ever developed. Just some random and very dull aches, I suppose.

Pre-Accutane acne is healing nicely and so is the zit I developed on Wednesday. No new spots. Still haven't experienced any dryness yet, but I feel like it's probably right around the corner. I guess I'll notice some dryness at the end of this first week.

I have a stuffy nose again... I really hope I'm not catching a cold. unsure.png

Awe you're so pretty and your skin is beautiful!!! I don't think you needed accutane for that but after you're done I doubt you'll be getting ANY breakouts. And you'll clear up very very soon. Just keep active, its the best thing you can do to not feel many side effects =)

Aw, thanks! My skin definitely hasn't been that bad lately, so I was surprised when my derm suggested Accutane. I guess it's just because my acne has been pretty persistent in recent times and nothing will clear it up anymore. There have been times when I had numerous red zits all over though, but that's as bad as it's gotten. I've never really had the angry cysts that most people in this forum seem to get. I've had some, but they were never that bad. Definitely grateful for that because I'm not sure how you all cope with it! I know it has to be rough.

I'm definitely going to keep active though. Hopefully it helps!
