Hi- I've been on Cllindamycin and Tretinoid for about a month, and I haven't seen a difference whatsoever. I was wondering how long I should continue to apply these topical treatments until I go to the doctor and try to get new ones. Also, do you have any topical suggestions for prescription acne medication? I have moderate acne, but it scars horribly and I have very fair skin. I get blackheads and pustules that are painful and red as heck. They scar like no other, and it really does weigh on my confidence. Please help!

PS- The Trentinoin is .05% and the clindamycin is 1%

I can't answer you about the clindamycin, but one month is wayyyyyy too early to tell if the retinoid is going to work. There are so many people who don't see results for months. I have been on retinoids of various forms for over a year, and I had to get through the initial breakout (that was not fun). I love my retinoid and won't be without it hopefully forever. Even though it hasn't completely cleared me up, I feel like the condition of my skin is better, I have way fewer wrinkles. I'm actually going to pick up the clindamycin lotion my derm rxed today, but I read good things about it on makeup alley. Retinoids are long term treatments unfortunately, as are a lot of acne "solutions." Also the retinoids are supposed to help with the scarring, but again, that is over several months' use.

What do you mean topical suggestions? You mean like other than retinoids or clindamycin? I would stick with those, or at least the retinoid, for a minimum of 3 months. I was told that I can't take clindamycin long-term b/c of the possibility of resistant bacteria developing. Benzoyl peroxide is supposed to help prevent this but I'm not sure I want to go that route, as I've had bad experiences with BP in the past. If the clindamycin doesn't help clear up my remaining (apparently hormonal) acne, then it'll be a moot point. Sorry not to have any better news. Best wishes to you.
