I'm hoping someone can answer this question for me. My Mom is in her 50s and still has acne, and I can see that becoming me. My acne is mostly around my mouth area. I breakout like once a week persistently. And my acne is mild/moderate.

My skin is not oily and i don't breakout during my period or whatever...is there a sure way I can know if my acne is hormonal?

cuzz i want to take spiro since i heard it's for adult women with acne and most adult acne women (like my mom) have excess androgens (the male sex hormone).

Since I am most likely like my Mom and will have acne forever, should i just take spironolactone?

You can ask your gyno for bloodtests for excess male hormones...but depending on the timing it may show up 'normal". Mine did, even though I know I have hormoneal problems, mine fluctuate so I have had normal readings and high readings.
Why not just try and get the spiro? It sounds as if you have nothing to lose, give it a few months and if it affects you badly, stop taking it.
Ive heard spearmint tea is supposed to help stop male hormones in women if you can drink like 3-4 cups of the stuff a day.

True, since it doesn't really have any negative affects....I'm going to the term on Tuesday so I will askk him.

I've never heard of it but, I'll try it and research it some. Is there a special type of spearmint tea I have to buy or just get the generic spearmint tea?

Nothing special just regular spearmint tea. It also cant do any harm...I think I am also going to ask my doctor about spiro as I am in the same boat as you, Mom had acne until well past middle age and I am sick to death of pondering "should I?"...
Im going to stock up on spearmint and have it at least 3 times a day, make it all at once and keep it in the fridge. Good luck hope one of these two things works for you!
