You started breaking out when you went to college? Does it clear up when you go home? If so it could be the water. We had our home water tested and the PH and bacteria levels were through the roof. I only wash my face with poland spring. I take an oversized plastic mug in the shower with poland spring water to wash my face.

No I breakout both at home and at college now. There is no difference. The whole time I was at my house after freshman year for the summer, none of it really cleared up.

Is your skin dry or oily? If you take hot showers, try and take cooler ones. This helped me alot, as it cut my oil production and kept my face from over drying. The 10% BP can be very irritating and over drying, give DKR products a shot, I had great success with them!

It's very oily. I use an oil free moisturizer after putting the BP cream on unless I'm about to go to sleep.

I take hot showers all the time. I don't think hot showers have anything to do with it. My family takes hot showers and none of them have acne.

Trust me, hot showers aren't good for sensitive skin! ALWAYS ALWAYS moisturize, even in the night. BP causes your skin to flake and dry out, which can cause acne. Lack of moisture can be a root cause of your oily skin, which causes acne. Really consider taking cooler showers, it will help your acne ALOT!

Alright I'll take your word for it. Should I still keep using the 10% BP, oil free face wash, and oil free moisturizer?

Btw took my first cold shower just now... Wasn't very pleasant lol but I sucked it up and now I'll be taking cold showers to see if my acne clears.

Btw, how severe is my acne from a scale between 1 and 10, 10 being super severe? And should I be worried about hyper pigmentation or will those scars eventually fade once I say acne free for awhile?

Hello there, I can assure you that I have been through similar troubles as you, especially the last three years. Then I met someone who got me to try a liver flush (try Dr. Hulda Clark's recipe). My cysts calmed down though some are breaking through to clean out. I have done two flushes and will do more in the near future. Cleaning the liver helps your body get rid of what's trying to come out of the skin the proper way through the internal waste system. There are ideas that some acne is not bacterial but rather a fungus (candida) problem. Eat a diet balanced in fats/carbs/proteins, too. I sometimes use grapeseed oil to moisturize and am gonna try adding epsom salt to it. Good luck 'guy' and hang in there, better days are coming. Love

You don't have to shower your hole body with cold water, just your face. Also , order a 2.5% BP ASAP! The 10% is way to over drying and irritating. The oil free wash, probably very drying. Try getting the Purpose Gentle Face wash, 12oz for 8$ at walmart, its great.

Have you been to see a dermatologist? I'm not trying to minimise your distress, as I know how awful acne is, but I hope it comforts you a little bit if I say I don't see your acne as being all that bad. Yes, I can see it, but I've seen a lot worse on other people. It wouldn't be the first thing I'd notice about you, if you know what I mean.

That said, IMO this type of acne is unlikely to respond to face washes/topicals long-term and maybe a derm could prescribe something stronger.

Hi there! I just wanted to echo uklady's sentiments about your acne - I don't think it's severe ... But nevertheless, it's disheartening. Good luck to you and hopefully you will find a regimen that works for you!

I couldn't stick to taking cold showers lol...

I asked my dad if I could see a dermatologist even though I was afraid of money being an issue.

He said he will set up an appointment, so im looking forward to seeing this doctor. I hope he prescribes me some strong drugs to get rid of my acne.

I've recently been using turmeric and it's had a decent effect on my acne. It takes a couple of days to get the stain off your face if you don't wash it right. I don't want to be too rough on my pimples though.

My big pimple in the middle is still healing but I grew 2 new ones and one on my cheek for the first time (uh oh).

I'm going to keep using turmeric face masks and drinking it until I see the derm because I ran out of my cream and face wash. That stuff wasn't working that well anyways

Btw once I get rid of my acne (hopefully), will my hyper pigmentation and scars eventually fade after a year or two?

Yea, the hyperpigemtation and scars will eventually fade. Ok since you don't like taking cold showers, just use your sink. DON'T let your face touch the hot water in the shower. After your done showering, use your cleanser in the sink with cold water.

It sounds like maybe since you went away to College you started to buy your own groceries or not have home cooked meals. Maybe you are eating something that you are allergic to and don't realize it.

Do you drink milk? It's been shown to cause acne!

Actually I read the topic about that one person who cut back on dairy and his/her acne cleared up.

I drink a cup of whole milk every single day in the morning.

I stopped drinking it two days ago, I'm going to see whether I get any results a week from now.

Before you go to the dermatologist, let me tell you what they told me. Three years of antibiotics and if that doesn't work they start cutting them out. I asked if she had a regimen that might be milder to try and she said 'so you want me to cancel your prescriptions?'. We weren't even finished talking and she sent out my Rx. The antibiotics help for awhile but they don't target the problem. Once you stop the meds, they return. A liver flush is cheap (epsom salts, grapefruits, and olive oil) and if it doesn't work for you (which it should) at least you have a cleaner cleaning system! These are my opinions, yes, but you should get all the information you can before making your decisions. Also, milk thistle and rosemary essential oil on the skin apparently are soothing and stimulate healing. I wish you the best!!

About diet, too, make sure you are getting enough poly-unsaturated fats in there (soybean oil, grapeseed oil are good). Check out the Zone diet pages. That ratio of carbs/proteins/fats is a life-saver. Peace and Love!
