Hi all, I'm new to the site! I'm 20 years old, female and am currently trying to sort out my acne problem.

When I was younger (say 15-18) I would suffer from the odd whitehead and blackheads, but it never really bothered me hugely and they would clear up within a few days. When I turned 18 I went off to uni and my skin got a bit better- I assumed I was growing out of it as breakouts became less frequent.

Last year when I returned home from uni over the summer my acne suddenly got worse. I wasn't the number of spots but how severe each one was. In the months I was at home I frequently got large spots/lumps under the skin- only really one or two at a time, and the rest of my face would be relatively clear, but they would take at least a week or two to go down each time. In September I returned to uni and after a few months I noticed how much better my skin was looking- I hadn't had a single under the skin type bump. I came home for christmas and within two weeks my skin was back to how it had been over the summer. After christmas I went back to uni again and things seemed better- I don't remember worrying about my skin at all. Now, I've come home for Easter and I am plagued with terrible skin, it's really getting me down!

I really can't work out why my skin seems to flare up really badly at home but over a few months at uni it starts to clear up? I really don't want to face another summer at home with bad skin so does anyone have any thoughts on what could be the issue/reason?? I've been using exactly the same makeup, cleansing routine etc. I eat fairly similarly at home as I do at uni and if anything I change bed linen/towels etc more at home than uni so I doubt its dirty sheets contributing to it. The only major difference I can think of is that I would rarely have the central heating on at uni but at home it's on a fair bit, so could a warmer environment contribute that much? I can't think of much else that is different about the two environments so any suggestions welcome!!

Environment could absolutely be contributing to your acne. Having radiators on dries out the air, so you might consider getting a humidifier for your room. I have one of those old fashioned hanging humidifiers, which you can get for very little, so consider getting one of those. It might also be stress. Do you have lots of work? Studying? I know for a fact my skin improves drastically when I go on vacation, because I'm away from my family and all the stressful drama...sounds terrible haha but it's something to consider. Good luck :)

I don't know if this will help you but the only time I get large under the skin bumps is when I use certain hair care products (like Moroccan oil for example). If you've changed any of those, you should consider that possibility.
