Day 1:
Well today I was finally prescribed accutane! My dermatologist suggested accutane after all the antibiotics that I was on simply failed, not even leaving a dent in my acne. I debated if I should create a log or not but I decided to do it just so I don't have to go through the journey alone! Let me tell you a little bit about myself, I am a 16 year old male sophomore that has had moderate acne vulgaris since probably around 10-11 years old. It's not so much that I am embarrassed of acne, well I guess it is a lot of that, but I am just so tired of having to deal with it. I play varsity football and love being outdoors. I guess it is a plus that I started accutane in the winter with off season workouts and not during august when I would be outside for 3 hours every day xD. Also not having to deal with creams and all that shit anymore is so relieving, knowing accutane is all I have to do. I bought some Cetaphil moisturizer and face wash due to the fact that I heard they were very gentle on the skin. If you have any other recommendations please feel free to tell me! Oh and I got some chap stick too Posted Image I will post some pictures in a little while I just wanted to post this real quick!Oh and I am on 40 mgs of accutane (I'm 6 foot 175lbs) but idk for how long I will be on it yet so yeah xD Also one last question, are the capsules supposed to be really light? It almost seems as if there is nothing in them lol! The actual brand name of mine is Clavaris or something like that. Also is there anything else I should know that the derm prob didnt tell me?

Day 2:
Havnnt noticed any really big changes. Well, none at all haha. No initial breakout or anything, yet. I will just have to wait and see!

Welcome to the board and the accutane group! I just started my 2 month of pills today! Woo hoo I am also on 40 MG. If you don't like the Cetaphil products try the CeraVe product line. Cetaphil made me greasy and the face wash made me red so I didn't love their line. I'm very happy with CeraVe and I don't think I will ever use anything else. I thought the same thing with try pills! I thought they were empty, shake them around and it felt like nothing was in there, I take Clavaris too. Just make yourself aware of the side effects and watch for signs that you are or arent handling the medication correctly. Being physically active in sports make the likelyhood of joint and muscle soreness a lot higher for yourself. So don't be afraid to take it easy. Also get yourself a good SPF 30. My derm said atleast 30 and reapply every couple hours. Let me know if you need any help or advice. Also be aware if will get worse before better for most people. It's not common to see results the first month.

Good luck. I am in my early 20s trying to get on accutane. I haven't been fortunate enough yet. I am trying again this week or else, I will have to resort to alternative measures. Wish me luck. Good luck with accutane. Just keep thinking positive.

I will purchase it online or find someone that will get it for me. I do not want to self medicate but, self medicate > acne scars/crater face.

We have to be nice and helpful. There is nothing easy about what we are doing. Side effects suck on this, I mean really suck. Any tips we can help each other with is a huge help. Plus it's so nice to talk to other people who are experiencing the same things as you. Unless your friends or family have been on accutane where else can you find information and support :)

I started drying up on day 5 or 6 around my active acne on my forehead and t zone. But that stopped quickly after it started. I just started month 2 and I am only dry on my chin and nose area. Moisturizing 2 or 3 times a day keeps that easily under control. It's the lips that are terrible to keep up on! No matter what I use they just keep peeling. I had to get prescription lip ointment from my derm today to help combat that :(

I understand, please keep me updated on how you are doing. A song that always keeps me going is "Revofev by Kid Cudi" the lyrics calm me down for some reason. I dont know what your taste in music is but here is a link! http://www.youtube.c...h?v=rQPK-1vHmVs

Its not about living long but, the quality of life we live by. I have did all the self help books and think positive but, it has its limits. One of the very most upsetting things is never having a gf. Having been involved, being a guy and flaking on a girl cause of a cystic pimple or nodular pimple in nowhere that can be hidden, and to find out, they assumed I was not interested, and I hear from their friend they are fucking some new guy. Talk about ripping my heart out. Fuck it sucks.

Its not about the girls only but, the social aspect, a way of life, and the quality of it.

I can relate to you bro, believe me, I can relate. I may just be a teenager, but if you ever need anyone to talk to, or just want to hear talk I can do that. Sometimes I have just wanted to listen to someones else's problems just so I know I am not alone, and believe me I have have had some fucked up shit happen in my life. If you ever want me to talk to you, or you to talk to me let me know man, I got a skype or I can give you my phone number. :)

I sent you a pm a moment ago. Its been rough. Its not even just the acne but, the pressures around me like work, money and other. Loss of family members and other shit. I need to get this fixed and move on, finish school, make money. Live life. I hope your log goes well and you get past this.

Haha cuz im 17 so were around the same age, yet im a girl, and I just took my fourth pill tonight. So we'll be right around the same time throughout this, so it'll be cool to compare how each of us is doing!

Oh alright, awesome :) And today is day 4 for me and actually still no side effects at all really yet. You might be different, cuz I know people that are starting to get dry already and their lips are getting more chapped at this point. But nothing so far for me. I know it is coming soon though unfortuanely.. ha. Sometimes I'll feel my lower back hurt then it passes, but honestly that could be from anything and I dont want to start blaming everything on Accutane already. haha

Day 7? I will check later xD
Sorry I have not updated in a while, I havnt noticed any real side effects until today. My lips are slowly but surely starting to get chapped, and I believe I am one of those lucky ones that does not have an initial breakout. I have definetly noticed joint pain in mainly my back when working out, but just in general too. I am using aquaphor for the lips and just gunna deal with the back pain. I will update every so often that I notice something getting worse or a new side effect. Also I have not noticed any hairloss too :)

Glad to hear the side effects are minimal! I'll be on day 11 tomorrow and still barely have any. I dont really think I am having a IB right now either, if I am then its not bad at all. my chin is pretty nasty right now, but thats the only part that got worse, so Im not sure if this is my initial breakout or not.. My lips are only a tiny bit chapped so far. But i also have been experiencing the back aches too.

Also, have you noticed that your zits actually like, sting or burn? Its hard to describe, but ive definitely noticed it. I asked about it on my log and others have too I guess.

Yay your only 5 days ahead of me! We can update eachother. I'm glad you haven't had your IB and hopefully you don't get one! If you do, just remember, it's Accutane purging all the acne that's already in the layers of your skin, and after that's gone, there ain't nothing left! Haha. I have a log too you can check out instead of my rambling on and on about my course. To sum up: 114lbs 80mg a day, female :D. My acne is red bumps that aren't inflamed, allllllllll over my cheeks and forehead, its weird cause inside, you can't notice it, but outside it's like BAM in your face red splotchy bumps that are taking over the world ;( Hopefully this will clear us, and everyone else up! Woohoo!
