I am 17 and have had ever-increasing acne problems for about 4 years now. Prescription pills and creams for a year did not work. Washing my face every day with over-the-counter acne regimens did not work. Not washing my face at all for about 2 months did not work.

I started seeing a sort of holistic/naturopathic doctor about a month ago. She suggested I use 50:50 rosewater and witch hazel on my acne twice a day, applied using a cotton ball or something similar. I have been doing that for exactly a month now, and it's pretty crazy that it is actually healing my acne! After a 2 week checkup on how I was doing, my doctor noted that all of my acne had dried up and there were no more pustules. Red marks linger, but not active acne. 2 weeks later, today, even the red marks are disappearing.

Once I was talking with my friend about my acne problem and how it has fluctuated over the years. I looked through a bunch of pictures of me at different times in my life, and the first half of last year, when I was exercising daily and eating a healthy diet, my skin was clearest. I recently started exercising and eating right again (specifically meat-free, and mostly all other animal products-free), and all of my acne (face, chest, back) is clearing up even more.

has anyone else had similar experiences with exercise and acne?

Exercising about five days a week for nearly two years. Unfortunately, I still have acne, but I`m hooked on fitness now, so I`ll keep it up! When I do eat crappy though, my acne does get even worse, so I avoid crappy foods. Living a healthy lifestyle definitely isn`t going to hurt you!

Hard to say. I got in way better shape when I became a hooper about a year ago. And my skin is great, better than it's ever been in my life. But I also went high raw/grain free around the same time and I think removing grains is what really helped my skin. Hooping sure helped my body though!

I'm also 17, and I've been using distilled witch hazel after cleansing for about a week now, and already I see some improvement. I also noticed that if I'm dieting (not fads, but real healthy eating) my skin looks a lot clearer. however, my self-control when it comes to galaxy chocolate and pringles is nearly non-existant, so at the moment I'm just relying on the witch hazel! It smells a bit aniseedy, but it's not unpleasant.

I sort of want to try making my own toner from witch hazel, green tea, chamomile, distilled water and apple cider vinegar.

I don't know if I should though. I've been doing the oil cleansing method and my skin is really nice. I just like playing with home made natural stuff... don't know if I want to rock the boat when my skin is already doing so well, though.
