Okay, I want to start off by saying that I'm not on Accutane, nor is my acne severe enough to warrant it. Here's the problem, though:
I have extremely oily skin, to the point where I have to blot 1-2 times an hour. The oil doesn't even spread out on my face when it exits the pores, it just forms large globules and sits there, getting bigger and bigger... I have to extract the blackehads that form as a result of this at least 4 times a week. It's disgusting. I have had enough of this. The emotional distress this is causing me is no longer tolerable. I have stopped going out, I avoid all social contact, and I constantly feel depressed. I can't even enjoy life anymore because of this - it may sound pathetic, but it's the truth. It has become all I ever think about. I graduate from college in a few weeks and I am panicking because I will have to sit down for the ceremony for 2-3 hours and won't be able to blot.
I currently use a 2% salicylic acid cleanser, followed by application of diluted peppermint oil, followed by application of an oil control mattifier. Even with all this, it still pours out like Niagara Falls. I want Accutane. The question is, how do I convince my dermatologist to prescribe it?

I have been trying to think of ways to convince a Derm to give me Accutane for oily skin because it maybe something I would like to try if everything else I am trying fails. So what do I plan on saying? Well the thing about oily skin is, their is NOTHING topical/oral you can get from the Derm that will keep away the horrible oil! The only thing available at the moment that actually helps with oily skin is Accutane. It's not like acne where there are a million products out there that you could try first that could possibly work before going to Accutane. Having oily skin is horrible and so uncomfortable. It feels like your skin cannot breathe and it doesn't look so great either. I don't understand why oily skin isn't taken more seriously!?!? But anyways, I would tell the derm that Accutane is the only thing currently that can actually help oily skin and that it effects your daily life. Talk about how uncomfortable it is and how much of a hassle it is blotting the oil every hour!
