Hey guys, I currently have an accutane log going, but I needed to start a new topic because I need serious help since I'm starting to freak out.

The story is this: I started Claravis 20 days ago at 80mg a day. I weigh about 120 pounds and have been having issues from the start.

I had bad headaches along with a bad red face the first week and a half. Almost to week 2 I started having pain/redness at the tip of my urethra. It hurts to walk or when it touches my underwear/boxers. I started applying vaseline as much as possible around the tip to try and heal it. It hasn't been getting better so I called my derm and he said to drop to 40mg a day and I have my next appointment in 9 days.

I'm upset because I think all of this is from the dosage being too high. I knew from the start it felt too high and I called immediately asking are you sure this is the right dose for me? I was told yes so I guess I was stupid enough to listen to it. I am thinking about stopping the medication today instead of continuing with the 40mg because I feel I have way too much in my system as is for a person my size. I was never asked about my weight or anything when at the office and getting prescribed. I can't stand having the pain and redness down there, i'm so scared it's going to be permanent now.

I'm not sure what I should do, weather it be just stop taking the meds for a few days to a week or what, because I refuse to deal with this symptom throughout the course.

Clearly I preface this post with - I am Not a Doctor - but I would say WHOA NELLY! Take a breather. Obviously your concern was warranted if you are having unacceptable side effects but you are not stupid!- we want to believe our Docs know best- so, don't beat yourself up over it. Follow what your Derm said by reducing the dose, and buy yourself some silky boxers and some thick moisturizing cream or other antibiotic ointment -they also make some great stuff for chaffing- Don't freak out-It's surely not permanent! And don't give up.

I hope you're right this is scaring me to death. I have read other posts on this site about the same type of issue and never found out if they ended up getting rid of the redness / pain at the tip of the penis. All I wanted was clear skin!!

Wow dang man sorry to hear that. My doctor too prescribed me 80 MG/day, and i weigh 140 lbs. And I thought that was way to much. I am currently on week 2, and have not had that side effect (yet ) nor do i want it. I would definitely stop taking it prior to seeing your doctor. Hope everything turns out all right.

your dosage does seem kind of high for your weight, or maybe your body is just especially sensitive since you've already had such a strong reaction!

i'm also around 120-125lbs and i was started on 40mg, and then gradually moved to 60mg a month later (which i'm still currently on, going into my 3rd month now). my derm said he won't move me to 80mg until next month at least when things calm down a bit (i've been having a HORRIBLE IB that's lasted til now gah, but hopefully it'll start going down this month!)

Yeah, most people that take the drug, it seems that they start lower and gradually increase the dose. I feel like If I went to a different derm I probably would have done this the right way. I took 40mg yesterday and am not taking any today, so I'm hoping to see improvement these next few days before I start taking it again. Sorry you're having a bad breakout, I'll be thinking of you to get better.
