Hey guys,

Well i have seen quite a few accutane logs/posts on this website. And it seems that most people start out between 20-40 MG/Day. Well, My doctor put me on 80 MG/day in the first month. Anyone know why? My acne was not THAT severe. It was probably mild to moderate, Though i did have a bit of PIH. And i am 140 lbs, while i have seen other people posts and they are like 160 lbs + and still start out at a lower dose than me. Any thoughts?

That seems quite high?! In my first month I was put on 40mg/day and my goal is 65mg/day, maybe it is age dependent too? I'm 14 but I thought the was quite a high dose, to me I didn't have any problems with the dose but that seems like a lot? See how you go and if you have problems contact your derm :)

It's just your doctors preference. It has nothing to do with age, just with weight. I am 25 and have started at 40 tomorrow I will be moving up to 60 the month after that 80 if my side effects are ok. I have seen people started at 80 even 100. Some doctors start at high doses to use a shorter course. Other doctors use small doses and a long course. The reason you see most people start on 20 or 40 is to lessen the severity of the Inital break out and to help cope with side effects. You would eventually move up to that dose anyways depending on your weight.

Oh i see. So I might have a shorter course since i was put on a higher dosage? If so that would be sweet.

I would assume so. I'd ask your doctor next time you see him/her the length of your course and that will answer your question. You need to reach a cumulative dose for your weight however long it takes you to get there doesn't really matter. As long as you are on a safe dose or course. You can find out how long your course will be by doing this formula..

On the top post there is a calculator you can download to help you figure out how long your course is going to be.

Thanks for the link. From that, it seems i should only have a 4 month course. That would be awesome.

That would be awesome! I think I have a 6 month course at 40mg a day. I was hoping to have my dose increased. No luck this month, I guess my lips are too dry or something lame like that. Next month I am hoping to go to 60. Then I would only have a 5 month course. How are you doing so far, noticed anything changing yet?

Hey, sorry havn't been on lately. Hell yea i have noticed a few side effects. My lips are severely chapped. Skin and mouth are very dry. Peeling. I did have minor chest pains when i first started, but those have since gone away. No joint pain yet thankfully. Skin looks a lot better already though. even my back, i could barely see any acne on my back. So i definitely have to say so far so good. Liking accutane so far. I go back to the doctor next monday. Hopefully the doctor will increase your dose soon! As much as i like this drug, i just want to get on it, and get off it, quickly as possible.

I was also considering taking fish oil supplements

Also, what month are you in?
