Ok, so I originally have been seeing a dermatologist who had put me on doxycycline in the past for acne. my skin was pretty clear except there was some scarring so i stopped taking doxycycline though i am still prescribed. i went to another dermatologist who performs lasers, etc originally for scarring but he said he wouldn't do anything because i still had active acne (i had bearable acne which would usually come up around the time of my period and a few breakouts every so often). he prescribed me to birth control, trinessa, and my face broke out from it (i think its the initial breakout, they said it should take a few months to regulate). i've been on it for about a month

i read somewhere that doxycycline has effects on the birth control pill, but mainly for issues with birth control. That is not my concern at all, im only on birth control to help with my skin so i was wondering if i could take doxycycline to help with the initial breakout period? i can't seem to find informaton on this anywhere, thanks!

It can only help. I would take it. It will probably lessen the initial breakout.

You can take doxy with BCP, but only if you're not trying to avoid pregnancy.

Isn't trinessa the generic of OTC? If so, people were complaining on here a bit ago how when they switched to generic, their clear skin became a nightmare of cystic acne. Get the brand name. Seriously.

I agree with prettywords. Let me share something with you I read in Glamour magazine this month. It says that generics aren't exactly identical to the brand. The FDA requires the generic to be within a range of equivalency to the brand version. They are just as effective for preventing pregnancy, but as far as hormone levels go, the generic can be off by 20 - 25percent. When you are trying to control acne it is all about the hormone levels.

My daughter was prescribed ortho tri cyclen and the pharmacist tried to give us the generic tri sprintec but I asked for the brand instead. With my insurance the difference is only $8 more.

With that being said, I do know someone who took tri sprintec which is ortho tri cyclen generic and it cleared her face. Actually I have heard better things about this generic than trinessa.
