Shave Less?

7 posts in this topic

I know shaving irritates the skin a great deal and so one solution is to not shave at all. Would that not help prevent breakouts?It would also help hide the large cysts on my jawline/neck

I started using just a beard trimmer which has made a huge difference. I use to get nasty shaving irritation and my derm suggested using a trimmer and what a relief. You of course wont get a close shave, but so what, I no longer get the awful irritation.

To be honest i never acually had a single pimple on my neck or jawline till about 1 n half months ago, then suddenly i had soo many breakouts like a prison filled with lazy guards. I've only just realised how irritating shaving is for the skin and the only solution for me is not to shave or suffer even worse breakouts. Well i guess i can pull of a rugged hungover student look, since i am one, but it's gonna be difficult when i need to go for job interviews :/

Definitely get a beard trimmer! Far less irritation, and I personally like not having to shave every day! Consider growing some facial hair too- good for covering up some acne prone areas (coincidentally I ONLY get acne on my cheeks, never get a spot anywhere else on my face, so kinda useful!)

I've tried not shaving/trimming at all for a few weeks but didn't help and my beard looked like a bit of a joke :D

I find BP hard to apply when I don't shave! Just a side note

New Regimen!

Morning: 2 pumps Dan's cleanser in the shower, and "Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Hydrating Care" to moisturize, works to get me through the day without dry skin, but doesn't show, it's like there's nothing on my face, it's matt and doesn't shine.

///

Night: 2/3 pumps Dan's cleaner in the shower, using the cleanser to shave with a 2 blade generic razor, end segment finger's worth of Dan's BP, 2 pumps Dan's moisturizer with 6 drops generic, organic jojoba oil.

Sometimes just Dan's AHA+, or the usual application of Dan's BP with AHA+ on top if I'm feeling hardcore.

///

1 generic multivitamin, 30mg Zinc if the multivitamin doesn't contain it, 1/2 odorless garlic capsules, 2/3 EyeQ capsules (omega 3, 6, evening primrose oil,)

Have been on lots of different prescriptions, most successful was oxytetracycline.

New regimen!

Dove summer glow morning

AHA+ (acne.org) night!

Awaiting 20% salicylic acid gel in post for chin and nose.

Acne isn't returning after almost 2 years on the regimen

Looking for treatments for oily skin however, I have that really bad

Like everybody says, a beard trimmer seems to help. My boyfriend has horrible acne around his jawline/ up the side of his face when we started dating and he was actively shaving. He now likes the 'rugged' look, so he started to get a beard trimmer and that seems to have helped him a lot.

Alrite, i'm gonna trim instead of clean shave, I'll see how that works out and thanks for all the advice :) i'm so glad i've joined acne.org, there's so many great people to talk to and help get me through this burden of acne. ^_^
